To think Chris Brown didn't simply make one mistake

I told a friend I was shocked that Rihanna had done a duet with Chris Brown.

She said she felt he'd been given an unfairly hard time.

I told her I'd seen stats saying a lot of young people think Rihanna must have "deserved" it and I think it's not only acceptable, but absolutely vital, for the media to keep being negative about a man who violently assaulted his girlfriend.

She said she thought he'd been subjected to trial by media and should be given another chance after he "just made one mistake".

Seriously, what? AIBU to think she is completely wrong?

Mike Tyson, is also a prime example of 'he only made a mistake'.

He seems to crop up here and there in films/tv programmes, and he's a convicted rapist Confused

Seems to me, that in the world of sleb all is forgiven.

Slainte · 24/12/2012 09:12

Thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't sure.

jessjessjess · 24/12/2012 12:20

Lovecat that conversation sounds chilling. What a nob.

i also think he is a twat who shouldnt be allowed to forget what hes done, but i cant imagine the same being said about a woman who did the same to a man.

BattlingFanjos · 24/12/2012 14:35

I agree with everyone who says the guy is a knob. First class cunt is what he is. I agree that the media doesn't always tell the whole truth....maybe she provoked him/she deserved it....please! like it matters! He knocked fuck out of her, bang out of order no excuses!!! Regardless of having the while truth he fucked up and is out there as a role model to young boys and girls and so is she. Whatever happened, happened between them but they have chosen chose to be in the spotlight, so are there actions! My son will be brought up to know that people like this (mike Tyson etc) are nasty people regardless of status.

BattlingFanjos · 24/12/2012 14:37

He's an utter arsehole and she is too if she doesn't see him for what he is.

Even Chris Moyles (who I know a lot of people don't like) made a stand and refused point blank to ever play another Chris Brown record on his show despite pressure from the BBC music people.

What a fucking shit example Rhianna and Brown are to young people. Xmas Sad

Wrt the tattoo, surely he'd look at the picture before it was done and realise that there would be a massive chance of it being misinterpreted?

The guy is a twat, but if she wants to be with him that's her choice, and it's no one else's business.

Neither of them owe anything to anyone else, they don't have a responsibility to be good role models, all they are is singers.

ShellyBoobs · 25/12/2012 22:39

Suggesting she's not a good role model is blaming her.

Blaming her for what?

BattlingFanjos · 25/12/2012 22:40

Swoosh haha!!!

I definitely am not blaming Rihanna for what happened to her even remotely. Having been in a similar situation that thought wouldn't even cross my mind. My point was that they are in the public eye it was made public because of their high profiles and that gives people a forum and a platform to air their opinions. Whatever they may be. I don't think she is a good role model for young girls/boys but there are many other reasons for that and her dv past is not one of them.

misterwife · 26/12/2012 07:51

He didn't just hit her once - not that that would make him worth taking back at all. He battered the shit out of her. That's not "one mistake".

ItsALongWayToPickAWilly · 26/12/2012 08:43

Oh god, I hate the boy! Had many an arguement with my sister who is a big fan of his, how he only did it once and her face didn't look that bad afterwards Hmm

It honestly drives me insane how some people can think like this...how is that ok?!

BattlingFanjos · 26/12/2012 10:30

I am seriously shocked that people really do think its ok?
Her face didn't look that bad afterwards? Foooooooking hell LongWay not surprised there's been arguments!!

FreudiansSlipper · 26/12/2012 10:35

she did not do a disservice to other women she is an abused woman herself she can not see that

her father said chris brown is a great guy but he made a mistake. Her own father said this how do you expect his daughter to feel she is worth more it's very sad and I hope she moves on

TwllBach · 26/12/2012 10:43

I just think it shows that, actually, DV, rape, paedophilia (Chris brown, mike Tyson, jimmy saville) is still widely accepted in the world and it chills me to the bone to see it.

FannyFifer · 26/12/2012 10:52

After reading the leaked police report it's beyond belief that anyone could excuse what he did.
cdn.mediatakeout.com/54234/ooooh-sh-t-they-got-the-full-police-report-from-when-chris-brown-beat-up-rihanna-that-dude-is-a-monster-read-this-and-tell-us-he-just-made-a-mistake.html

BatmanLovesSparklyBaubles · 26/12/2012 11:21

Jeez, if that police report is the real thing, then that is very, very chilling Shock

roughtyping · 03/01/2013 18:12

Just saw this thread - YANBU. 'One little mistake' were the words my aunt used when my grampa hit my gran (who was suffering from Alzheimers) because she couldn't use the toilet by herself.

An absolutely disgusting man.

lastSplash · 03/01/2013 18:36

Shocked at a few of the comments on here -

"she's a fool", "They both are as smug as each other", "she is completely wrong", "She did herself and all abuse victims a great dis-service..."

The woman is a victim of domestic violence - have some empathy.
