To be annoyed that I think I've got flu?

Spookey80 · 21/12/2012 16:38

...anyone else feeling rubbish? I have so much to do,, I have no time for this.
Anyone else coming down with something or recovering?
How long is it likely to last? I feel achey, shivery, no appetite, no energy. Headache, chesty, bit of a cough.
Any advice, tips or just sympathy much appreciated.

a bit, not as bad as you. My mother always said to try and knock it on the head with a good dose of vitamin C. She'd always drink hot lemon after hot lemon. Sometimes works.

lannyshrops · 21/12/2012 16:44

If you have the flu, it will take about 2 weeks to recover. However the flu will totally floor you, you won't be able to move, never mind type! So don't worry, you probably have a cold, which are the devil at this time of year. Likely to feel grim for about 3-5 days, maybe left with residual side effects for up to 10 days. I advise 2 paracetamol 4 times a day, 400mg brufen three times a day, a good decongestant like sudafed (follow instructions), olbas oil or vics, early nights. Step away from lemsip, they are shite and only have lower doses of the above in them. Feel better soon!

Gumby · 21/12/2012 16:46

Go to bed early
You'll feel better in the morning Flowers

EdgarAllanPond · 21/12/2012 16:48

i thought i had the flu

i had three days in bed running a fever of 38-40 degrees

then i went to the doctor

he told me it was bacterial, gave me some anti-bs

and the fever broke last night (an interesting hour or two in which i awoke drenched in sweat dreaming that i was a dinner jacket)

so having flu is bad, because it takes longer to clear and anti-bs don't help.

is your snot green ? = bacterial most likely or so said Mr Doc.

ebersneezer · 21/12/2012 16:49

I'm on day 10 of this so called cold, 6 days of it I could barely function. Then there was the dizziness! That was fun.

Spookey80 · 21/12/2012 16:52

Yes, really dizzy. Kinda spaced out- ahhh, be gone crap bug whatever it is!

been in bed for 3 days with splitting headache as well as cold - sinus and ears hurt - what a waste of time and so much to do - feels like some sort of viral thing rather than a cold - feel sick. anyone else?

lljkk · 21/12/2012 16:56

YABVU. Wink

Having flu empowers you to dive into a dizzying endlessly deep well of self-pity and general profound grumpiness. "Annoyed" doesn't begin to cover it.

Isn't that what men do about flu?

ImpatientOne · 21/12/2012 16:58

I'm in the feeling rubbish club too Xmas Sad

I have had sore throat and headache since the weekend then started to be more snotty and with phlegmmy cough yesterday. I went to the doctors this morning as I am asthmatic so I asked them to listen to see if my chest is infected and the GP said it was - but luckily only mildly. He gave me antibiotics which made me feel very nauseous although thankfully that has now passed.

It's so much worse when you feel like you're on a timer to get better and have so many things to do.

Spookey80 · 21/12/2012 19:23

It's just rubbish because I have so much to do I need some energy from somewhere. :(((

There's a virus going around which both my DDs have had, sounds similar to you. They felt really grim for only a few days but I'm sorry to say the after effects have gone on and on.

Hope you feel better soon.

whois · 21/12/2012 19:31

OP you don't have flu. If you did you would be lying in bed unable to type. So for the you are being U and annoying.

You may well have some horrible nasty virus or something which is making you feel crap. But you do not have flu.

cathers · 21/12/2012 19:35

I started with the same symptoms last Friday. Spent 3 days in bed, 3 more moping and trying to do normal duties but still sweating and miserable. Last couple of days been better but still have really wheezy chest and cough.
Took paracetanmol, decongestant spray and ibuprofen. Multi vitamins and spatone for iron and perk me up and a chesty cough liquid. Lots of steaming the face, karvol capsules and rest too.

MrsRichardParker · 21/12/2012 19:36

I've had the same thing I think, and it's horrid, so you are definitely not being unreasonable in the slightest.
Mine started 3 weeks and 3 days ago!!!!! It's just gone on and on.
Started with a fever, and bad cold type symptoms, achy body etc. I was wondering then if it were flu. I've gone up and down ever since - am completely floored by it some days. Today I've just resurfaced after about 5 hours on the sofa when I really couldn't move. Terrible sinus headache that feels like somebody's twisting a knife in my head, and my eyes feel raw. I have 20 people coming for lunch tomorrow - haven't got the energy yet to begin to think what I'm going to do about that!

Plomino · 21/12/2012 19:38

Not flu but feel lousy . Have picked up dd2's sore throat and high temperature , not surprisingly because she's been a sick limpet for days . Have so much to do and I swear my to do list is getting longer , not shorter . Have no time for this .

MrsRichardParker · 21/12/2012 19:38

Awful cough as well. Have actually forgotten loads of my symptoms, as it's just been one boring thing after another...

I have something similar. Also a sinus infection. I do feel a tiny little bit better this evening, and have managed some food. DH also has it, so I'm just hoping we can shift it over this weekend.

The seating is the worst bit. Waking up soaked to the skin is just grim.

shuffleballchange · 21/12/2012 20:01

Wow, I'm amazed at all the medical professionals on this thread who can tell the OP doesn't have flu just cos she's been able to type.

TeenageWildlife · 21/12/2012 20:37

What is this thing?:
Really bad sinus headache - days and days of it
ear ache
throat and cold
body ache
feeling sick
squits
can't breathe so not sleeping

What is it? And when will it go away?
Xmas Sad

Allonsy · 21/12/2012 20:47

Im ill not the flu or the cold im snot free! sore throat, bad cough, really hot, dizzy and off my food, its rubbish :(

AngryFeet · 21/12/2012 20:47

I am on day 9 of some horrendous virus. Started with loss of appetite and tiredness then progressed to fever, sore throat, cough and complete exhaustion. After being completely comatose all last weekend (couldnt move out of bed) i tried to go out and do a couple of bits and ended up making myself worse. Am staying in bed now and drinking lots of water till i hopefully feel better. Just horrendous and couldnt have come at a worse time :(

ZZZenAgain · 21/12/2012 20:51
