...anyone else feeling rubbish? I have so much to do,, I have no time for this.
Anyone else coming down with something or recovering?
How long is it likely to last? I feel achey, shivery, no appetite, no energy. Headache, chesty, bit of a cough.
Any advice, tips or just sympathy much appreciated.

I am on day 4 and dh is on day 7. I have had 30 or so hours where I have been unable to do anything but lay in bed sweating and thinking I was dying. Killer headache, extreme cold shivers (fingertips and toes actually felt numb and tingly), sweating with a high temperature, horrendous sore throat, a cough which has left my trachea aching, nausea, dizzyness, aches in my arms and legs as if I had been run over by a truck and overwhelming weepyness.

Everytime I felt marginally better and shuffled to the kitchen for a cup of tea I would be punished by feeling worse and needing the rest of the day in bed.

Feeling marginally better this evening and have had a meal for the first time in 4 days. Fingers crossed I am finally on the mend...

The dc have it too, dd worse than ds.

The house is a mess, the presents are not wrapped, not all presents have even been bought, we have missed our littel nephew's birthday, the groceries for Christmas have not been bought and right now I don't know when we will feel well enough to get up and about Sad

It is a really nasty virus, whatever it is ...

BelaLugosisShed · 21/12/2012 21:02

I'm either on my 3rd bug within a month or its a resurgence of whatever started back in November, first came a raging sore throat for a few days combined with sinus pain, ok for a week then then 3 days of severe dizziness and nausea, ok for a week then today I woke up fine, by lunchtime my eyes and nose were streaming and my left eye feels like someone has it in a vice Angry - thankfully I've found some heavy duty cold medication from America in the cupboard, good job as DH had finished all the benylin and cold tablets - he's had the cough from hell for almost 3 weeks.
I fell asleep in the bath then DH found me asleep on the bed still wrapped in my towel earlier on. Not impressed.
Not sure I should be drinking Jim beam + honey with these tablets, but I really don't care. Xmas Smile

TeenageWildlife · 21/12/2012 21:03

BehindLockNumber Nine that is exactly it - and the weepiness. How will we brave the supermarket?
Xmas Sad

lannyshrops · 21/12/2012 21:13

shuffleballchange the reason HCP's can say its not the flu because you can type, is because its very likely to be true. Having nursed people with true influenza and having had it myself, I know only too well exactly how ill one is likely to be when infected. Doesn't be so condescending, the OP asked for advice which we have given. I didn't hear any advice from you.

BehindLockNumberNine · 21/12/2012 21:16

I have no idea how I am going to brave the supermarket. Just shuffeling from the bedroom to the sofa leaves me wiped out and breathless. The supermarket is not even an option at the moment Xmas Sad

Have guests at Christmas, arriving 24th, leaving 27th, I need to be up and about and preparing. This is truly the worst possible timing....

DecAndAnt · 21/12/2012 21:16

I thought I was being a hypochondriac, glad I'm not alone.
Not eaten since Monday so the only silver lining is the massive weight loss.

Single mum here so a nightmare having to look after and prepare meals for my 2.
I'm having to sit down every 2 mins.

I've got some antibiotics but they are making me nauseous and dry wretch! Nice, just what I need on top of everything else.

lannyshrops · 21/12/2012 21:22

Can you manage milk Dec? May help with the nausea if you can line your tummy a bit with it before antibiotics.

whois · 21/12/2012 21:26

shuffleballchange I trust you've never looked after anyone with flu? Or had it yourself? Because if you can muster the energy to type on an Internet forum and focus your eyes on a screen then you really are very unlikely to have flu.

BehindLockNumberNine that sounds v rough, especially with everyone ill!

BelaLugosisShed · 21/12/2012 21:29

I've only ever had proper flu once, last year, it wiped me out for 3 days and I was weak of a fortnight, I couldn't get out of bed without help and I slept for 20 hours straight the first day, it came on very suddenly too, one minute I was drinking a cup of tea, 5 minutes after I was crawling up the stairs to be sick with the room spinning.
Flu is unlike anything else.

EastHollyDaleStreet · 21/12/2012 21:39

yes yes yes. Bloody awful. Been in bed all day today - it started on weds, so I took yesterday off - felt better yesterday afternoon and went to dd's birthday bowling party, and then had a couple of drinks. Huge mistake :( Today - coughing, throat full of broken glass, headache, chest pains, wobbling. It is horrible and it has to go - panto on sunday party tomorrow night, dd birthday on Monday. Very miserable and cranky!! have been drowning in lemsip type concoctions and ibuprofen.

Badvocsanta · 21/12/2012 21:43

Teenage...ditto :(

Badvocsanta · 21/12/2012 21:47

I think mine has been brewing a while.
My mum was rushed to hospital last Friday.
Ds2 has been ill for 6 weeks with what I think was flu..temps, awful cough, headache, night sweats, loss of appetite.
I had a bad head cold at the start of December and haven't felt fully well since.
Now today I have got stomach cramps and nausea.
Cosmic.

TeenageWildlife · 21/12/2012 21:47

Xmas Sad I just feel so shit that I want to cry........what timing! Hugs to my fellow patients Xmas Sad

Badvocsanta · 21/12/2012 21:49

Dh broke up today thank god.
At least I can stay in bed this weekend.

GalaxyDefender · 21/12/2012 22:15

This year has been so shit for illnesses for everyone.
[hugs for all]
Even if the OP doesn't have flu, it's still shit being sick.

I've been sick about six times this month. And on Monday I came down the the most horrific cold/virus thing I think I've ever had, and it's still here now Sad
Shivers, fever, inability to keep an even temperature, aching joints, earache in one ear followed by earache in the other the next day, hacking cough, raspy throat, blocked nose, gunged up ears (woke up this morning and my ear was leaking. It looked like sick!).
The list goes on, and "D"P is two fucking hours away doing a 'job' so I'm stuck in a house that's a tip looking after a whingy, not-100%-well 2yo. Oh, and regardless of my well-status tomorrow, I have to take DS to MIL's for a Christmas meal. Sans DP, because he's a twat and thinks his hobby is more important than going to see his family.

I just want to lie in bed and cry, but I can't. Sad

Thanks and Brew (pretend that's a Lemsip!) to all of you who are feeling it too.

apostrophethesnowman · 21/12/2012 22:23

OP it's very unlikely that it's the flu, it sounds more like a heavy cold.

It will still make you miserable though I'm sure.

Bakingnovice · 22/12/2012 01:07

Yanbu. I've had the worst virus/cold that I've had in 20 years. Been in bed since Tuesday. Missed the nativity and school Xmas fair. Feel shit. Total shit. Even that butch night nurse Has let me down. Took 2 tablets three hours ago and am still sat up. In agony with restless legs. Just don't know hOw I'm going to get Xmas dinner made.

CoolaYuleA · 22/12/2012 01:44

Flu is horrific. EVERYTHING hurts - not aches, actual physical pain. You are so weak you can't move, but lying down is agony where your body is touching the bed. You are cold, but have a raging fever and need to be covered up - except it HURTS where the covers touch your body.

You have no strength, you can't sit up, typing would be pure agony too - all those joints moving, the pressure on the fingers....

Flu kills, it's not a heavy cold, it's not something you take to your bed with clutching a laptop, a box of tissues and the tv remote. Flu knocks you off your feet to the point where you lay in bed not moving, not even moaning, just feeling pain and horrendously unwell.

The two weeks I had flu were awful. I have NEVER been that ill and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It took another two weeks of feeling like a limp wet rag with no energy before I even started to feel like I would be able to leave the house again, and even when I did I got exhausted really quickly for a while after that.

OP I really hope you feel better soon - the viruses doing the rounds are really unpleasant.

blonderthanred · 22/12/2012 03:36

I love it when people get snippy about REAL FLU. It reminds me a bit of the Four Yorkshiremen sketch.

I don't doubt that they are factually correct. But also funny.

5dcsandallthelittlesantahats · 22/12/2012 03:39

Just whispering - I had flu during that outbreak a couple of years ago and had it pretty badly ( as in hospital badly ) it was certainly flu . There wasn't a single day where I wasn't able to type or text - perhaps that's not normal but just because someone is able to move one finger doesn't mean they haven't got flu!. Having said that I also managed to send a text to dh saying "hurry the fuck up" during the final pushing stage of labour (he missed it ).

I feel really rotten at the moment but I am assured by many family members it's not flu as I have been able to watch a film lying in bed (after 4 days of illness mind) and I haven't yet had the need to wet the bed rather than go to the toilet.

BunFagFreddie · 22/12/2012 07:24

I've been feeling run down and like I've been fighting something off for about 3 weeks now. I've just been mentally willing myself to finish work before it gets the better of me. I woke up this morning and sneezed about 10 times in a row and I'm all shivery and weak feeling now.

BunFagFreddie · 22/12/2012 07:29

CoolaYuleA, the last time I had flu was thankfully about 4 years ago. It was sheer agony, DS had to go and stay with my mum because I literally couldn't do anything. She came over with ice lollies and drinks for me, bless her cotton socks. The inside of my mouth came up in blisters ffs! and I couldn't eat properly for ages because it was so sore.

Someone once told me that you can tell the difference between a cold and flu with this test. There's a £50 note at the bottom of your garden. If you can go out and get it you have a cold, if you can't you have flu.

Loveweekends10 · 22/12/2012 07:33

If you are able to write this thread then you haven't got flu you have a heavy cold.
A definition of flu is that your front garden could be full of £5 notes and if you had flu you would not be able to go and get them.
Im sure you feel really shit but most people say they have flu when they really haven't.

DecAndAnt · 22/12/2012 08:22

Will people stop telling others they do not have flu, when you have no fuckin idea whether they have flu or not. Thanks.

EastHollyDaleStreet · 22/12/2012 08:45

I don't care what it's called - I just feel absolutely rotten. Woke up about six time s in the night desperate for water, my whole body hurts - if I cough, it's really painful and my nose is stuffed full of something ... It's like the worst hangover without having touched a drop! I just want it to go away :(
