Apparently everyone in school gets to stay up way later than this and I should let dd too. I actually think even 9pm is a bit late for her but then what do I know!
So aib an u horrid mother?

Ah yes everyone else at school is up til at least midnight aren't they? Xmas Grin

My 8 year old goes to bed between 7.30 and 8 otherwise he's shattered getting up for school. This prob is a shade earlier than a lot of his friends though.

gordyslovesheep · 11/12/2012 21:19

godness NO YANBU

my 10 and 8 year olds go to bed at 8pm and are allowed to read until 9 - a 9pm bed time is generous

Cozy9 · 11/12/2012 21:19

Let her stay up later but in her bedroom.

NoisyDay · 11/12/2012 21:20

No way,9pm is late enough for any child -otherwise you get no time to yourself!

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru · 11/12/2012 21:20

dd has an 8.30pm bedtime on a school night (lights off at that time)

VerySmallSqueak · 11/12/2012 21:21

Sounds late enough to me.

Apparently all my 8 year olds friends have mobile phones....Hmm

PacificDogwood · 11/12/2012 21:22

Mine (8 and 9) are ment to be in bed at 8.30, lights off at 9.
They are still chatting now - not only do they share a room by choice; they share a bed... I might just have to go and put my Stern Mother Voice on.

ChippingInAWinterWonderland · 11/12/2012 21:22

Tell her everyone on MN thinks she should be in bed at 7 so she's lucky to be up at 9!

I think 8pm is fine for a 9 year old.

9pm - for 13 (young) teenagers.

Of course - all IMO, as long as they're not here pestering me, I don't care what time they go to bed Xmas Grin

Harden yourself to the 'but everyone else' - Stock answer I am not 'everyone else's Mother' just yours and that's your bad luck!' Xmas Grin

ivykaty44 · 11/12/2012 21:22

My 14 year old is in bed -now Grin

Best thing you can do is ask for three class mates parents numbers so you can phone them and verify there bedtime, then you will also allow the same bedtimes Wink

I find the above never ever materialises and I can then do what I want in my house without any pain Smile

LucieMay · 11/12/2012 21:23

DS aged six (Y2) goes to bed between 8.30pm and 9pm, but that's personal choice.

PacificDogwood · 11/12/2012 21:23

Oh yes, all their friends have iPhones (!) and they do nothing but play CoD day in, day out Grin.
And get all the money they want.
And eat ice crem for dinner. Every day!!

My name is PD, and I am an ogre Grin

My 9 year old ds bed time is 7.30 - 8.00pm However, most of his friends are 8 - 8.30 at the latest.

My ds though has learning difficulties and his day really stretches his brain so he gets very tired and needs his sleep. I think 7-7.30 is better for him but we are so busy that it is impossible to fit it in.

SoldeInvierno · 11/12/2012 21:25

my DS is 9 and goes to be at 8pm. Any later than that and he's exhausted the next morning

dementedma · 11/12/2012 21:25

Ds nearly 11 goes at 9pm with lights out straight away. Used to go earlier and watch TV for a while, but prefers later time and a straight to sleep.

Snog · 11/12/2012 21:26

My dd is 13 and bedtime is 9

3b1g · 11/12/2012 21:26

9 year old = screens off at 7.30, in bed by 8, lights out by 8.30 in this house.

Dillydollydaydream · 11/12/2012 21:27

My 9yr old dd goes up at 8, reads til 8.30. Apparently this is unfair and her friends stay up much later then go to bed and play in their iPads Hmm

2madboys · 11/12/2012 21:27

My DS who is nine goes up to read/play for a while at 8 and has his light off at 8.30. DS12 has his light out at 9pm. We are quite early risers though, 6.30/7 ish so this gives them enough sleep mostly.

ditavonteesed · 11/12/2012 21:28

well my 9yo is in bed by 7.30 sometimes allowed reading till 8, she wouldnt function any later, so your dd definatly beats her.

Francagoestohollywood · 11/12/2012 21:29

Mine are 10 and 8 and bedtime is at 9. They aren't overtired.
We are in Italy, school finishes at 4.30 and often they have activities until late, it'd be impossible to go to bed any earlier now. But, I must admit I find going to bed earlier than 8 (their bedtime when younger) rather confusing, but that's cultural differences for you.

Leafmould · 11/12/2012 21:29

I thought you were going to ask if that was unreasonably late!

Chewbecca · 11/12/2012 21:33

It does depend a bit what time they have to be up in the morning I think.
My 9 year old has to be upstairs getting showered by 730/8, lights out at 930 after a long read. Needs to be up at 730.

foxy6 · 11/12/2012 21:34

i started letting my eldest stay up until 9 when he was 9, he is now 18 and but once i started with 1 the others played up about this and now my 8yr old goes to bed at 9 and is very rarely asleep before 10.30 Shock.

48Hours · 11/12/2012 21:34

Thank you :)
I feel like I am turning into my own mother, my key saying atm is I don't care what suchasuch mum says/lets them do.
Oh boy I am going to have such fun with this one in the teenage years.
