AIBU to be upset that the trailers for World War Z seem to have no resemblance to the book I read (and loved)?

Have been waiting ages for the film, am sorely disappointed now!

Why do they do it? :(

No! I am so upset about it. I was really looking forward to it and now I'm just majorly disappointed. Sad

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 09/11/2012 09:46

Bits and pieces I saw repoted on while they were filming it made it look like they were following the book pretty closely - I hope it's not very different :(
I don't watch many films and have always preferred the book but this one looked good and we had planned to go and see it. DH hasn't read the book so he won't care but I sit there muttering "that's wrong" "no not like that" all the way through Grin and he hates it.

cornybeefhash · 09/11/2012 09:48

Now I thought the book was a bit shit
I'm more upset that Brad fecking Pitt is doing the movie than anything else

blueraincoat · 09/11/2012 09:50

My mum booked tickets to this thinking it was a World War 2 films and they had done "that modern thing, making the 2 a Z". I did toy with not telling her it was a zombie film but decided it was best to tell her in the end!

BunnyLeBOOwski · 09/11/2012 09:54

Apparently it's nothing like the book.

A bit of a mess tbh. They did reshoots and rewrites months after the filming ended Hmm

I don't think such an epic book could work as a film anyway. It would inevitably be condensed/butchered.

And Brad bloody Pitt?? Hmm

Francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2012 10:04

Brad Pitt is fine imho.

The book doesn't have major characters, so they had to change that for the film. They chose the easy way out. They could have done it in a different way, like Robert Altman's Short Cuts. With Zombies Grin

Tbh, I didn't enjoy reading WWZ as much as I thought I would.

Chelvis · 09/11/2012 11:08

blueraincoat, it isn't out til June next year though, I thought? how has she booked tickets already?

I enjoyed the book, but preferred the survival guide one he did.

whatsforyou · 09/11/2012 11:13

I haven't read the book or seen the trailer but you are not being unreasonable.
I saw the trailer for the Jack Reacher film, based on Lee Child's books and they have cast teeny tiny and horrible Tom Cruise in the role of the man mountain who is Jack Sad
If you are going to take on a book to make into a film then you should be as true to it as possible IMO

weeblueberry · 09/11/2012 11:15

I honestly don't know why they even bothered buying the rights to the book quite frankly. It might as well be named 'Yet Another Zombie Movie except this time Starring Brad Pitt' given how much it resembles the damn book. Sad

SaidFlorence · 09/11/2012 11:16

It was filmed 2 minutes from my work. You see the part with all the people running from George Square (Glasgow) - I'm one of them Grin

PrincessSymbian · 09/11/2012 11:16

Having watched that trailer, I think who ever wrote the screen play should be throughly ashamed of themselves. The whole point of the book was it was looking at the events retrospectively. It could have been done amazingly but no', they had to turn it into one man against the world type crap!

blueraincoat · 09/11/2012 11:19

Oh isn't it?! I could have sworn it was coming out??? Maybe she was going to then? Bit worried for mother's brain now...

blueraincoat · 09/11/2012 11:25

Ah originally going to be released in December 2012, I think this is where confusion set in.

susiedaisy · 09/11/2012 11:25

The zombies look like its all cgi, I hope it's not going to be another piece of crap like 2012, was really looking forward to this film i am already pissed off they have changed the release date!Angry

susiedaisy · 09/11/2012 11:27

I believe the original release date was 21st dec to co-inside with the supposed end of the world theory by the Mayans,

BadRoly · 09/11/2012 11:27

The snow covered boat bits were done in Falmouth last August - it was big news down here at the time with people getting parts as extras and trying to get photos etc of Brad Grin

Francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2012 11:35

Why are they on boats I also wondered World War Z zombies could survive in the sea.

gordyslovesheep · 09/11/2012 11:41

YANBU I felt exactly the same when I saw the trailer

mayorquimby · 09/11/2012 13:08

I resigned myself to this bearing no resemblance to the book a long time ago.
The book would be perfect as a HBO miniseries following a different account each week.
I'll still watch this but it's a bog standard zombie flick is my prediction

mrscumberbatch · 09/11/2012 13:36

Franca the sea bit is explained in the book.

MrsReiver · 09/11/2012 14:02

Glasgow looks good, and I'm enjoying watching the refinery down the road blow up! Oh the excitement when Brad Pitt was on our doorstep.

Francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2012 14:19

I remember that in the book there is the account of people surviving on a chinese submarine, and that many boats got attacked by zombies, or am I not remembering well?

Francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2012 14:20

My 11.35 sentence doesn't make sense, does it

mayorquimby · 09/11/2012 14:20

No you're right
Boats with dropped anchors or near to shore were attacked
