AIBU to be upset that the trailers for World War Z seem to have no resemblance to the book I read (and loved)?

Have been waiting ages for the film, am sorely disappointed now!

Why do they do it? :(

Zombies only attacked boats in shallow waters I think - where they could reach - they where not so much a threat further out

The heavy CGI use is a bit off putting....it's very very obvious.

NoKnownAllergies · 09/11/2012 14:29

I loved this book. The reason it was so appealing were the differing global perspectives, the film doesn't seem to cover any of that. It reminds me of The film I am Legend.

CaptainKirksNipples · 09/11/2012 14:30

I'll probably illegally download watch it when it's on tv. I work in Glasgow too and liked walking around the set on my lunch break pretending I was in America Grin

Francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2012 14:39

Oh yes, anchored boats were at risk, yes.

But doesn't the book also say that whales etc had been almost made extinct? I can't get my head around this global zombie apocalypse Grin!

gordyslovesheep · 09/11/2012 14:55

whales etc would be at risk - the zombies keep going - under the sea - so anything that came close to them on the ocean floor would be prey - boats float Grin

AlistairSim · 09/11/2012 15:35

It doesn't seem to resemble the book in any way, apart from having zombies in it.

I expect I'll still go and see it though, I can't resist a zombie.

Francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2012 16:16

I am still not convinced Gordy Grin

But I do love zombies, so I will try and go see it.

gordyslovesheep · 09/11/2012 16:36

I will definitely see it - I adore Zombies

Has everyone watched the wonderfully silly Cockneys V Zombies yet Grin

LucyGoose · 09/11/2012 21:43

Ugh, too much CGI and the ultra fast zombies....reminds of how they cocked up I Am Legend film too. I really enjoyed the book.

But I am a sucker for zombies so I will pay up for this.

Agent64 · 09/11/2012 22:35

mayor big fat yes to HBO miniseries - would have suited the episodic nature of the book.

crescent lurking zombies Grin lots of them do lurk in Romero's films, albeit in a latent manner.

They weren't supposed to be zombies in I am Legend - they were sick people - same as in 28 days later. Zombies are dead. not obsessed by zombie films at all

To answer op's question, no YANBU, let's just hope the finished film is better than the trailers suggest. Was so excited when I heard they were making it in the first place.

To the person who said no to talking zombies in books - completely agree.

Can anyone recommend any good zombie books (Max Brooks aside)? Plenty of crap ones around but decent ones seem to be rare.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/11/2012 22:40

Looks terrible. I won't watch it but I don't watch horror films anyway and don't like that man - who is it? Is it Brad Pitt? He has a very annoying face. Loved the book though.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/11/2012 10:08

Totally agree re hbo miniseries.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/11/2012 10:09

The infected in 28 days later have always been my fav

susiedaisy · 10/11/2012 10:37

The two 28 days films have haunted me ever since I have watched them, I think it's the speed of the zombies and the relentlessness of them always chasing you along with the general bleak outlook for the future, whereas with I am legend I was aware that I was watching an entertaining blockbuster movie so it kept my attention but didn't scare me!

KnockKnockPenny · 10/11/2012 10:56

Running zombies? Shock that is NOT right!

Loving the trailer, and recognising Glasgow streets in it, big excitement when it was all filmed I remember.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 10/11/2012 11:39

The "White Flag of the Dead" series is bloody brilliant - I am currently on the third one, and I have a feeling no1 was even free on Kindle, and the others are cheap.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/11/2012 12:03

Not great literature by any stretch of the imagination but the 'Feed' series by (I think) Myra Grant are quite entertaining. I've read 2 but there's a third out now, I think.

TomsBentPinky · 10/11/2012 12:11

Never read the book,

but the film looks awesome.

Fast zombies are one of my major fears!!
