To think this absolutely slovenly and disgusting

I was in the playground today, and a girl of about three said to her mother 'Mummy I need to got to the toilet'.

The toilets were 100 yards away at the cafe, clean and maintained.

Her mother said 'Would you like to go in a nappy instead?'

So without moving from her seat, she put a nappy on this girl.

She then said 'I've got a nappy on'

Another (younger) little girl in the park said 'I've got knickers on.'

The mother stayed sitting where she was until her younger daughter (about one) started crying because she wasn't being supervised and got hit while standing at the bottom of the slide.

I think she muttered something about having a hangover.

Well, it's a bit odd, I don't think I've ever had a hangover so bad that I couldn't walk 100 yards (and I've had some shockers Grin), but not absolutely slovenly and disgusting, no. If the girl was happy to go in a nappy (and, presumably, stay in it for a bit), I'm not really sure why you care. I'd find it easier to take a child to the loo than faff around with a nappy, but that's my preference.

I daresay she doesn't have a crippling hangover every day, maybe cut her some slack before labelling so damningly?

Well, if that attitude is prevalent these days, I guess it explains why we're getting so many more children in our nursery who aren't toilet-trained.

Well she didn't have her head in her hands or anything, she was sitting there chatting and playing with her phone, it can't have been that bad.

I'm afraid I DID care, it was all I could do to avoid casting evil glances in her direction. Wink

No, I would have taken my DC to the loos, but it was quite an ingenious way of being lazy and it's made me laugh.

And she didn't seem embarrassed about it, she was in a group of about five adults, and quite loud, it wasn't like 'nudge-nudge let's go behind those bushes', which you might do if there HADN'T been a toilet two minutes walk away.

Surely it is more effort to put a nappy on a child in the park than walk her ten steps to the loo? Odd.

Well maybe the little girl has a bowel problem?

My mate's DS takes seriously takes around half an hour to squeeze out a couple of peanuts.

I doubt she would have wanted to hang around a park toilet with a 1yr old in tow if that was the case.

Would she have known there was a toilet close?

Was she alone with 2 dc? Perhaps she didn't want to take both dc alone?

She would have walked past the very pleasant cafe/toilet to reach the playground from the car park, and it's in plain sight from the playground.

I didn't say "always."
But it is a fact that we have a significant increase in children arriving at Nursery, who are not properly toilet trained, but have no relevant medical issues. Of course there are one or two with bowel conditions (or whatever) but in the main, no.

Well, if my mother's tales of wading through buckets of sanitiser and smelly Terry nappies is anything to go by, I can imagine the incentive to get us trained as early as possible.

We all know that if you keep drinking you avoid a hangover altogether. I hope you chided her, OP- there's really no excuse. She should have continued drinking like a decent mother.

I hate public toilets. DD has to put her hands on the seat and theres never adequate soap.

I wouldnt have put a nappy on tbh, I would have braved the manky toilets. But maybe in her hungover state the smell of other peoples wee would have been too much.

Maybe she should of led down on the sofa all day sleeping her hangover off instead of making an effort and getting down the park.

Sunday is hangover day, she can't be that much of a shit parent otherwise she would still be in bed her child in her cot in a 12 hour old nappy.
