It's vile. Of course you're not being unreasonable.

LadyBeagleEyes · 23/09/2012 23:34

No, I don't like it either. It seems really popular on MN though

RagingDull · 23/09/2012 23:34

YABU!

gin with full fat tonic, ice and lime is the most refreshing drink ever.
fact.

i have to be in the mood for it but its lovely when i am.....

i also like vodka and coke and im a wine devotee....otherwise known as a lush. hth!

stargirl1701 · 23/09/2012 23:35

YABVU!

FatFaced · 23/09/2012 23:35

YANBU! Gin is horrid. Tastes like spraying perfume into your mouth. Gross!

FrenchRuby · 23/09/2012 23:35

No no no no can't drink gin, bleurgh. The first time I ever got really drunk me and my friend stole her dads bottle of gin, it was horrible from what I remember and now I can't even look at a bottle haha.

RagingDull · 23/09/2012 23:36

god you dont drink gin neat! heathens! Grin

FrenchRuby · 23/09/2012 23:36

I'm a Jack Daniels girl though, love it.

DameEnidsOrange · 23/09/2012 23:36

I am the same but about whiskey - DH and his mates ponce around discussing the merits of various single malts pretending they know what they are talking about, whereas one whiff and it takes me back to being 14yo head down the toilet at a party, and the old saliva glands start producing....

Losingitall · 23/09/2012 23:36

Depends which gin you're drinking. Lots if people that don't like gin actually don't like tonic water.

Try gin less laden with juniper ( that's what gives the perfume taste and bite at the back of your tongue)

Gordon's has loads if juniper and a greasy taste. Try some of the other gins out thereGrin

ripsishere · 23/09/2012 23:37

It's lovely. Fact.

weegiemum · 23/09/2012 23:37

Yanbu! If you don't drink it then there's more for meeeeeeee!

BegoniaBampot · 23/09/2012 23:38

Never drank gin till about a year ago and was convinced I didn't like it. A friend gave me some Hendricks and tonic and I was converted, it's loooovvvellly!

rhondajean · 23/09/2012 23:39

YANBU. It tastes like perfume. And I'll drink anything alcoholic.
Grin

McHappyPants2012 · 23/09/2012 23:40

never liked the taste, and for some reason my nan has alway said gin was mothers ruin.

EugenesAxe · 23/09/2012 23:40

Erm, yep. Plymouth miles ahead of Bombay Sapphire though, for me.

Sloe gin is like cough mixture . At least, ours is.

RagingDull - yes! Low fat tonic is tragic when it comes to gin.

akaemmafrost · 23/09/2012 23:40

It's revolting. I drank it till I threw up aged 16 and cannot even smell it now without feeling sick. Horrible stuff. Mind you vodka is the only spirit I can drink.

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 23/09/2012 23:41

It was the first drink I got drunk on and that smell still turns my stomach it's vile even the so called nicer ones yuk

I can drink pimms if i can not smell or taste the gin

And agree tonic water is vile too

paddingtonbear1 · 23/09/2012 23:43

YABU.
I don't like vodka... it's just like gin but with the taste taken out..
You could try Brockmans, it's gin but not like most gins, more fruity.
I like Hendricks gin, or Portobello (dh bought me that for our anniversary)

dh likes whisky. I can't drink that at all!

blonderthanred · 23/09/2012 23:44

Yabvct&uu. Tis nectar of the gods.

paddingtonbear1 · 23/09/2012 23:44

Agree that Plymouth is better than Bombay Sapphire!

RagingDull · 23/09/2012 23:46

it was known as mothers ruin because it was said to bring on an abortion, im sure plenty tried it back in the day with a hot bath.

ScooseIsLoose · 23/09/2012 23:46

No it's shit I loves vodka hic

Thing3WearingOrangeWithPride · 23/09/2012 23:46

Isn't it called mothers ruin because back before abortions were legal to end a pregnancy it was common to drink gin and have a very hot bath?

pootlebug · 23/09/2012 23:49

On its own? YANBU

But with tonic? Match made in heaven. One of the great mysteries of the universe:
Neat gin = yuck
Neat tonic water = yuck
Gin & tonic = marvellous
