Lol, I've never been there, but I've been past it many times. What happened? Shock

Jins · 26/09/2012 13:18

It's like walking into a nightmare. Every wall is covered with press clippings of random 'celebrities', every cell is full of the possessions of criminals or torture implements. They have Fred West's spade! Nazi uniforms, strange things in bottles, racially questionable toys, homophobic displays, you name it, he had it.

You should go. One day that man will be in the papers for something more sinister than his planning permission problems. If I was one of the celebs on his wall I would shit myself.

squoosh · 26/09/2012 13:22

Fred West's spade??????? Shock

Has it been set up with a guy with a taste for sadism?

Jins · 26/09/2012 13:25

It's the product of a vrey disturbed man
www.crimethroughtime.com/

There was one of those cages they used to hang people in until they rotted. There was something in it. We thought the 'something' might have been real Shock

I really regret taking DS2 :(

LesleyPumpshaft · 26/09/2012 13:26

Meh, it's the sort of thing I've come to expect round here. Wink

LesleyPumpshaft · 26/09/2012 13:28

Thanks for the link Jins. I'll have to pop my head in. It's Halloween soon! £7.00 though!! And why the celebrity gossip? Confused

Jins · 26/09/2012 13:32

The celebrity thing is weird. I can remember a big display about Amy Winehouse (now safe from harm) but many others too. Lesley Ash's botox experience featured. Celebs who may or may not be gay. Celebs who have taken drugs. It's just too much to take in. Videos here www.littledeanjail.com/page26.asp

It felt like that episode of Father Ted with the priest who collects Nazi memorabilia.

LesleyPumpshaft · 26/09/2012 13:35

Celebrities who may or may not be gay Confused

I need to get on with my work now, but I'll have a butchers at that later.

There are some great places to take kids round here to be fair. DS is a sullen teenager who hates me for making him do his homework these days, but I'm glad we made the most of it before he hit puberty!

squoosh · 26/09/2012 13:37

My what an, ummmmm, ecelectic collection he has Hmm

Instruments of punishment and torture through the ages
A genuine murder victim?s full size skeleton
Ku Klux Klan uniforms/insignia etc.
Indonesian fertility statue
Dr. Who Dalek
Banned violent toy collections
Lady Diana's letters

Jins · 26/09/2012 13:39

He's just bought the Yorkshire Ripper's radio!

Remember my words. He will end up as one of the exhibits one day

boschy · 26/09/2012 14:24

We are in Kent, within sight of Dungeness power station. Our local pub hung up a gibbet as a way to attract attention - I think that's nice, don't you?

Love my house, love my garden, love living near the sea - hate everything else!

Couldnt live in London again though.

nickeldaisical · 26/09/2012 14:32

boschy i know where you li-ive! Grin
I love Dungeness and all the little towns around it.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 26/09/2012 15:21

GOOD GOD re Fred West's spade.

Lesley Winhcombe is beautiful, but the people are strange.

I think the Forest is great, but the mentality of the people (LOCALS) is summed up by the fact that if you call Foresters 'bear killers' they go absolutely nuts.

It's a LOCAL forest for LOCAL people.

Yep GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt. there's a few things you shouldn't mention to the locals! I've been here for nearly 4 years and I'm only just starting to feel as though I'm settling in.

DS was naughty at school recently, so that's probably another black mark against the family name. Everyone seems to know everyone elses business! One of the mothers was very nasty when I moved here, not going into details, but I now call her 'the evil one' and have hung a feng shui type doodah in my window to deflect her evil eye when she drops her kids off at the village school. Shock

I'll have to check out Winhcombe. The name rings a bell, but I rarely venture outside the forest these days, the localness of the place is clearly rubbing off on me! It is beautiful and the people are strange!

Jins · 26/09/2012 15:36

You should join us Hully. Fabulous knack of finding the least scenic spot, the most boring castle, the steepest hill with no cafe on top and the weirdest museums run by neo-nazis

We drink a lot in the evenings to forget

porcamiseria · 26/09/2012 15:39

are not forest people very...erm...close to their families? and poppy eyed?

or is that a cruel rumour ?

LesleyPumpshaft · 26/09/2012 15:41

I don't want to say anything incriminating porcamiseria, although I've heard rumours about a strange man in one of the towns who did 'things' with a sheep! Shock

mrsruffallo · 26/09/2012 15:42

I agree with Stewart Lee's assessment of country living

squoosh · 26/09/2012 15:43

I knew the Forest of Dean reminded me of something. That's where EMF were from.

I had crazy, passionate, 13 year old schoolgirl love for that band.
My best friend loved E17. Oh how I sneered. Grin

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 26/09/2012 15:47

There was a court case a few years back where a couple in the forest of dean were charged for having imprisoned a man in their shed.

Also, front page of the Echo about 6 months ago 'COPPER KEBAB RAGE' where a policeman punched the man behind a kebab shop in (iirc) Cinderford for being a bit stingy with the salad. Sad

It's all go round these 'ere parts.

Yes Cirencester and Stroud very Cath Kidstony and cupcakey.

And the craft market on a Saturday in Cheltenham needs to be arsoned.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 26/09/2012 15:48

YOU'RE UNBELIEVABLE.

LesleyPumpshaft · 26/09/2012 15:49

mrsruffallo, it's true you know. Sad

squoosh · 26/09/2012 15:50

Copper Kebab Rage!!! Grin

It sounds like a lovely, welcoming and chilled out kind of place.

mrsruffallo · 26/09/2012 15:51

Lesley, come to London
