You do get schools in cities, you know. And things to do that do not involve ferrying your kids around as well. DD1(11) has spent the afternoon in the swimming pool with her best mate and then came home all on her own. It was bliss.

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 18:36

motherinferior · 23/09/2012 18:38

You can't buy forrin foodstuffs in the country...

NellyJob · 23/09/2012 18:39

and my car is fucked and I don't know where DD is

halloweeneyqueeney · 23/09/2012 18:40

it is SOOO BORING!! growing up in the country you don't spend lots of time outside, you spend lots of time IN CARS because everything and everyone is a drive away! and its all private land. Had a much more outdoors lifestyle once I escaped to a city where I could walk to actual places of interest and there were lots of public spaces!

NellyJob · 23/09/2012 18:40

plus your kids have to deal with gay bashing and casual racism

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 18:41

I grew up in London

WHAT WAS I THINKING?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 23/09/2012 18:41

I hate it, too. Good schools, though.

NellyJob · 23/09/2012 18:42

and the schools aren't that great tbh

TheHumancatapult · 23/09/2012 18:43

The state schools here are fab primary and secondry people move here for them . Small town has pool /cinema /shops /parks with plenty of green spaces . Fast train to London 30 mins or Cambridgr other way

Countryside not far away either . To me it's perfect balance keep dc happy age 7,9 15 and 18 I'm done moving

MoreBeta · 23/09/2012 18:44

Look people. I grew up in the country. It is boring.

I went to boarding school at 11 and I thought it was wonderful. I hated going home - it was so boring.

I did again live in a village for a few years but it was just a very short bus ride from a city. As soon as children hit Primary school age we moved to the edge of a small city and it is wonderful. We can see the ountryside, we have ariver, we have wildlife but we dont have to go there. We can look at it but still walk to a cinema or restaurant or shop in ten minutes or get our shopping delivered.

DO NOT EVER MOVE TO THE COUNTRY IF YOU ARE A TOWN PERSON.

NellyJob · 23/09/2012 18:45

no I am talking deep country here - six hours on the train to London

NellyJob · 23/09/2012 18:45
