... before the Olympic Flame is extinguished and the flag is handed over!

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 17/08/2012 20:55

No, it's a separate thing entirely to the other Olympics.

Secrecy · 17/08/2012 20:55

Really? Should it be?

OP posts:
GaryTankCommander · 17/08/2012 20:55

Doesn't the Paralympics have its own flame?

Secrecy · 17/08/2012 20:56

Why should disabled people have to have their own separate flame?

OP posts:
Secrecy · 17/08/2012 20:56

Not meaning to attack here - just asking!!

OP posts:
Kladdkaka · 17/08/2012 20:56

Separate organisations in different countries with their own charters and ways of doing things.

because they have thier own games, its like saying your not worth having your own!
they have their own relay around the uk and own opening & closing.

WorraLiberty · 17/08/2012 20:58

Who says they 'have to have their own separate flame'?

Perhaps they want their own separate flame?

Do you know anything about the Paralympics and the relay etc OP?

GaryTankCommander · 17/08/2012 20:58

Or you could ask why should they have to share the flame if the Olympic athletes, why can't paralympians have their own!

Secrecy · 17/08/2012 20:58

Well we don't have separate games for women - why for disabled people?

OP posts:
Secrecy · 17/08/2012 20:59

By which I mean - women aren't less interesting and not worth being part of the 'real thing' - why disabled people? Women are less powerful etc etc

Read up a little (it's all there on Google) and then come back.

And why are you making the comparison between separate games for women and disabled people? Confused

gamerwidow · 17/08/2012 21:00

It is a completely different event though and has it's own torch and opening ceremony etc.
Neither event is superior but they are unique entities.

Glitterknickaz · 17/08/2012 21:00

They shouldn't be separate entities. Whilst the actual races/competitions would have to be held at different times it should all be one big event.

It's horribly anti inclusion the way it is now.

ddubsgirl · 17/08/2012 21:00

when the games started there was no para games,so is still classed as seperate.
they all work bloody hard so why shouldnt they have thier own flame etc?

Kladdkaka · 17/08/2012 21:01

The paralympics is the real thing for disabled people. Or are you saying that because it's just for disabled people it's not good enough? Confused

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 17/08/2012 21:01

I started off thinking the same as you, but I am slowly changing my mind.

The Paralympics has its own history it should be proud of, it doesn't need to be lumped in with the Olympics to be considered equally as important.

As this country is the birthplace of the Paralympics, I am hoping in a big way that the London 2012 Paralympic Games are going to finally get the recognition they deserve.

If we all get behind the Paralympics and support the athletes in a big way, have as much fun as we had as a nation for the Olympics, then we could really lift future Paralympic games into the spotlight they deserve. It doesn't have to continue to be the boring baby brother to the Olympics.

GaryTankCommander · 17/08/2012 21:01

Eh? You're just being daft?! Confused

ddubsgirl · 17/08/2012 21:02

they cant have it at same time as the venues have to be adapted and would take too long to keep changing it for each event.
comon even usa didnt even show all the normal games.

It is a continuation of the Olympics... It's not like it's held on another year. The venues have to be adapted for the Paralympic sports.

I have tickets, can't wait!
