To "think" that "quotation marks" are being "overused" lately?

That and "said".
Eg, "so I refused to give said child it's fruit shoot back"
"I decided to bring pombears to said party"

And yes, I realise it doesn't matter, but it "irks" me. Grin

It's its not it's

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/08/2012 11:04

I've not seen this ... are you trying to fit as many into your OP to use them up or something?

SummerBreak · 11/08/2012 11:04

Y'see that would have looked better with quotation marks.

It's 'its' not 'it's'.

See?
Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/08/2012 11:05

You mean, summer, you wanted to say, "Its 'its' not 'its'"?

Just checking.

TheDreadedFoosa · 11/08/2012 11:06

Never seen that

TheDreadedFoosa · 11/08/2012 11:06

I mean, "Never seen that"

HecateHarshPants · 11/08/2012 11:08

Are they not quoting people then?

When else would you use ""?

[baffled]

I can understand use of '', eg It was an 'accident'

Or she said "it was an accident"

or even "she said it was an 'accident'"

But I don't understand why someone would randomly "put inverted commas round stuff"

SummerBreak · 11/08/2012 11:14

This is getting funny..

I was saying the "it's" in the OP should have been "its"

It is "its" not "it's".

It's now losing all meaning Confused

MissTapestry · 11/08/2012 11:37

According to my "iPhone" it's "it's". I should have "proof read"

Grin

Bugger, this isn't going well is it?

Agree with "said". Hat full of hateful.

DawnOfTheDee · 11/08/2012 11:42

My DH has no idea how to use 'air' exclamation marks correctly (you know, when people do the bunny ears type hand gesture). He puts them round seemingly random words.

E.g. So my so-called friend ran off with my "money".

AAARGH! No. Round the word friend. If at all.

LST · 11/08/2012 11:43

I use !!!!!!!! A lot. Sorry!

Grin
HecateHarshPants · 11/08/2012 11:47

I overuse the emoticons. I know it drives my fellow MNers mad.

Sorry about that.

Grin Wink Grin

hiddenhome · 11/08/2012 11:53

I use them, but always appropriately Grin

hiddenhome · 11/08/2012 11:54

Or perhaps that should be, 'appropriately' Wink

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/08/2012 11:54

Blah. As long as I can read it I don't give a monkeys fuck.

Guilty. I do it when I know the word I'm using is the word I need to use to make other people understand me, but I have doubts about it being the correct word. Eg, my children's 'father' has remarried.

Yes it's very useful and conveys a lot I think!

kittyandthefontanelles · 11/08/2012 11:58

The apostrophe is for omission and possession.

The fruit shoot belonged to the child, belonged to "it" therefore, it's "it's".

Tapestry was correct, it's fruit shoot is the same as Surinder's fruit shoot.

StealthPolarBear · 11/08/2012 11:59

I know what you mean OP

So we sat down for our "snack" and then the other mother gave me a "look" and i sed oy wot you looking at and she said nothing so we sat right at the "back"

StealthPolarBear · 11/08/2012 12:00

no kitty
its is the possessive form of it
his/hers/its

not hi's/her's/it's

MissTapestry · 11/08/2012 12:01

Bastards. (apart from anyone who agrees with me of course)

I've no problem with emoticons, you may continue to overuse them Grin

as if anyone gives a shizzle what I think!

StealthPolarBear · 11/08/2012 12:06

my phone does random apostrophes and random Capitalisation (Wink) too. So I've just given up (on laptop at moment)
