To be a little upset by friends comment....

So, after posting a thread on here about my baby weight and being told I needed to stop whinging and start loosing it (thank you by the way) I joined weight watchers and started going to the gym as much as possible (about 4 to 5 times a week for 45 minutes or more). I have literally been busting my butt to try and loose weight. And after 6 weeks I've lost 5 lbs. It's not much (I have another 15 to lose), but hey, I'm proud of myself.

So I put as my facebook status:

"Well it took 6 weeks, but I've finally lost 5lbs! :)"

To which my friend replied:

"Great!! And I've lost 4 lbs in 10 days by just maintaining a normal life style .. I simply walk, where it's possible, rather than driving the car even accross the street like I do"

Am I right to think she's taking the piss a bit? Or am I just being overly sensitive...possibly from lack of food :P

Do you any history of competitive weight loss. She does come over as a bit mean.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 08/08/2012 08:17

A bit of a snide comment I'd say tbh!

BenedictsCumberbitch · 08/08/2012 08:17

I'd just reply back saying something along the lines of 'yeah I know it's always easier when you have more to lose'.

Or not worry about it again because she's obviously a bit of a dimmer.

Isityouorme · 08/08/2012 08:18

Miaow! What a bitch! YANBU, it was a catty comment from your "friend".

Well done on losing the weight!

Lovelynewboots · 08/08/2012 08:18

I think she is being a bit of a cow tbh. I think you have done really well. I find it a struggle to lose weight. Don't let it put you off. Five pounds is a good healthy weight loss over a steady amount of time and you are more likely to keep it off that way. Just ignore her.

OddBoots · 08/08/2012 08:19

That does sound rather mean but Facebook seems to bring out the worst in people.

Be proud of what you've done and you are still doing, sounds like you're doing great.

confusedgypsychick · 08/08/2012 08:20

WipsGlitter, no, I've been trying to loose weight for the last 3 years, but they've been such half arsed attempts I've kept them to myself. This is the first time I've really put effort in, so the first time I've posted about a loss.

She is being a bitch.

Well done 5 pounds is a fab loss!

Maybe reply with something like "I am taking it slow and steady, it's more likely to stay off that way"

Lovelynewboots · 08/08/2012 08:20

I like Benedicts reply Grin

PhoneyMEDALWINNER · 08/08/2012 08:20

What a bitch!

De friend - cos she's not a friend at all.

Congrats on what you've achieved.

FateLovesTheFearless · 08/08/2012 08:21

It's a bit tactless but I don't think she is being mean. She actually admits on it that she was driving her car across the street previously which makes her sound pretty lazy!

Goingunderfast · 08/08/2012 08:23

Yes she is being a t**t IMO. well done for your loss! Ignore her and carry on! Keep posting as it will probably annoy her all the more and hopefully some of your more supportive friends will Post!

RobinSparkles · 08/08/2012 08:23

I think it's probably just a case of foot in mouth syndrome from your friend. She's said the wrong thing.

If she had put : "nice one, well done! I have also managed to lose 4lbs by walking a lot more and not just jumping in the car to go across the road, like I usually do!" it would have sounded far less bitchy and competitive.

Is she usually competitive?

Maybe reply with the MN, "did you mean to sound rude?"

JumpingThroughHoops · 08/08/2012 08:24

you won't lose weight by over exercising because you are converting fat into muscle, however you will look far better by the end of it because you will have slimmed down AND be toned, where as she may just be a bit ummm floppy by the end of it!

wankpants · 08/08/2012 08:24

What a bitch. I agree with benedict

StealthPolarBear · 08/08/2012 08:27

What a bitch!
"I've lost 4 lbs in 10 days by just maintaining a normal life style "
erm no. Surely her 'normal' lifestyle should be the one which maintains her weight, otherwise it's a "weightloss lifestyle"

confusedgypsychick · 08/08/2012 08:30

She used to be lovely, but since her divorce, everything she says to me seems a bit snarky. I'm not sure if mutual friends are also getting this (I recently moved countries so mostly talking to friends via facebook, and it hasn't come up and I haven't noticed similar comments on other friends posts).

I'm totally in the dark about whether or not I've done something to upset her...

I would say that Benedict, but she's a size 4 tops as it is.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 08/08/2012 08:30

I agree with jumping

neverquitesure · 08/08/2012 08:30

Console yourself with the knowledge that all your shared friends will have read her comment and also be thinking "what a twat"

If she does have more to lose than you perhaps go for the passive-aggressive response "that's fab [insert bitch friend's name here], how many more do you have to go?"

Or how about "crikey, are you walking via Everest", since It's perfectly bloody obvious that a bit of walking plus no dietary changes will not shave off 4lb in 10 days.

RobinSparkles · 08/08/2012 08:35

Actually, I've changed my mind! I've given your "friend" too much credit in my previous post - she's being a cow!

angryfurball · 08/08/2012 08:39

Size 4 and she randomly loses 4lbs in 10 days?
I'd tell her to get checked for worms.

Well done on your weightloss, it sounds like you've earned it!

StealthPolarBear · 08/08/2012 08:41

was thinking similar afb :) At my heaviest I could lose 6lb in a week but that was with a strict diet, and obv it was a tiny proportion of my overall weight

StealthPolarBear · 08/08/2012 08:41

a lovely PA "oh dear, that's not good. Hope you're well" might do the trick

confusedgypsychick · 08/08/2012 08:45

LOL @ some of the comebacks. Ok, well its good to know that I'm not being unreasonable.

OP posts:
simperingsally · 08/08/2012 08:49

Well done on you're weight loss.
She is coming across very bitchy in her response.
