So, after posting a thread on here about my baby weight and being told I needed to stop whinging and start loosing it (thank you by the way) I joined weight watchers and started going to the gym as much as possible (about 4 to 5 times a week for 45 minutes or more). I have literally been busting my butt to try and loose weight. And after 6 weeks I've lost 5 lbs. It's not much (I have another 15 to lose), but hey, I'm proud of myself.

So I put as my facebook status:

"Well it took 6 weeks, but I've finally lost 5lbs! :)"

To which my friend replied:

"Great!! And I've lost 4 lbs in 10 days by just maintaining a normal life style .. I simply walk, where it's possible, rather than driving the car even accross the street like I do"

Am I right to think she's taking the piss a bit? Or am I just being overly sensitive...possibly from lack of food :P

If her 'normal lifestyle' is so fantastic why the hell wasn't she thin already? You have to be quite fat to lose 4lbs in a week.

JumpingThroughHoops · 08/08/2012 08:51

4lbs in 4 days is quite possible - depends when she weighed herself!

Weigh yourself at night when you are at your heaviest, then again in the morning - voila, you'll lose oodles.

also she may not have used the same set of scales, as each set will calibration fluctuations.

OR! She could have weighed on carpet and on a wooden floor.

Anyway, she thinks she' lost 4lbs so leave her in her fluffy wuffy cloud and concentrate on the new you ready to burst out in all your glory!

HecateHarshPants · 08/08/2012 09:04

Wow. that was really bitchy of her, wasn't it?

confusedgypsychick · 08/08/2012 09:06

I'm used to the men on my facebook saying stupid stuff like this. Because they're men and loose the weight when they bloody sneeze. But I expected more empathy from the women, even the skinny women.

She's being a cow. I wonder if she's got it into her head that she's "the thin one" and you losing weight upsets that notion? Either way anyone reading her post would think "what a bitch."
Love some of the comebacks but think I'd stick with a "Cheers for that." and leave it.

confusedgypsychick · 08/08/2012 09:23

I just wrote "Ok..." Leaves it open for interpretation I guess. :p

Did she just go for a massive turd?

Water rentention?
Seriously well done you! I've been there and know how hard it is. Keep going and don't let the comments of this woman put you off.

OfficialFlyingSquirrel · 08/08/2012 09:27

She's being a total cow.
Perhaps reply and say "that must have been a big poo you did!"

pictish · 08/08/2012 09:28

I'd be pissed off...I cannot imagine any of my friends commenting like that!

Right. I'd reply "Well done. Have a chocolate medal and do a lap of honour round your living room. You've earned it."

Kennyp · 08/08/2012 09:28

I was on a boot camp and somone not mentioning abi titmuss' name drank a litre of water, then weighed herself. So her end weight loss was 10lbs, whereas everyone elses was 5lbs maxxxxxxxxx. Your friend could have been holding bricks before she weighed herself.

I only hope she doesnt just float away.

LemonBreeland · 08/08/2012 09:28

Wow that is seriously bitchy, YANBU at all. As others say at least everyone will see what a bitch she has been.

GoldenGreen · 08/08/2012 09:32

Depends on what she is normally like but I read it as self-deprecating i.e. she is normally so lazy that look what happens when she moves around a bit more. But it would have been better all round if she'd just said well done!

pictish · 08/08/2012 09:33

Oh hang on....did she mean you normally drive the car across the street or she used to?

That is important. I thought she meant you. If she didn't, then it's a blunt but valid point.

bumblebeader · 08/08/2012 09:34

Grin what angryfurball said!

confusedgypsychick · 08/08/2012 09:36

Pictish, she meant she drives (or used to drive) the car across the street, not me.

porcamiseria · 08/08/2012 09:45

er, shes a bitch

ignore her

JennerOSity · 08/08/2012 09:45

She sounds a bit catty.

If you are doing that much exercise, there is a good chance you are making some lean muscle - as muscle weighs more than fat your weight might not go down so fast even though your waistline does.

I don't judge my body by weight - I judge on how loose my pants are! Grin

When I am at my slimmest possible but not particularly active my weight is 8stone (I'm a titch), but when I am just as lean but doing lots of sports and am muscular I am 9stone... at both weights I am very trim and my slimmest clothes fit in either case, but the stone heavier weight is all muscle. I have been pretty fat at 9.5stone - only half a stone more than my lean sporty self - but as it was all fat my girth was huge and couldn't bend to tie my shoelaces without gasping like a drowned fish! Grin

So just bear in mind, weight is only one measure. If you are doing all that work in the gym you will be getting really fit - it isn't just about the weight.

Well Done :)

ErikNorseman · 08/08/2012 09:46

you won't lose weight by over exercising because you are converting fat into muscle

May I just say you can't 'convert' fat into muscle!

BenedictsCumberbitch · 08/08/2012 09:50

Well in that case I'd probably respond something along the lines of 'I don't want to lose my boobs so wouldn't want to lose it too quickly...'

GnocchiNineDoors · 08/08/2012 09:51

This is why Facebook needs MN emoticons as

Hmm

Would have been the perfect reply.

Well done Op!! Im starting a 'shift the baby bulge' diet and its nice to have a bit of inspiration from another MNer.

londonkiwi · 08/08/2012 09:54

Love it angryfurball!

QueenMaeve · 08/08/2012 09:55

I think that's a horrible comment, not one a real friend would make

confusedgypsychick · 08/08/2012 09:55

GnocchiNineDoors, you should look up the older thread I posted about being allowed to be a fat after having a baby. That's what gave me the boot in the butt I needed. :D
