To think I'm entitled to extra baggage allowance??

After six years in London, I'm moving back to Perth in October. Currently planning how to get my belongings (not that many) back with me. AIBU to think that I should be allowed more than the 20kg luggage allowance because I don't weigh very much? I'm 59kg. If I weighed 30kg more I'd still get the same allowance. Grossly unfair!

But don't eat too many or you may have to stay here even longer....

What do you want? When booking everyone to have to give their weight and then have a weight allowance allocated?

Yep, that would work for me.

If you're only small then your clothes will be smaller too so you can already take more items of clothing than a bigger person.

I think every person should have a total body+luggage allowance. Total weight of the aircraft determines how much fuel is used. And weight is not a subjective thing, it's not like the check in lady has to decide if someone is fat or not. It's a fact. Quite simply, if it costs the airline £X to fly Ykg from point A to point B, why should people of different weights pay the same?

Alot of airlines allow you extra baggage if you're emigrating. Have you checked with them?

I lived in melbourne for a year and on my way home I had over 40KG of luggage, I intended to pay for extra luggage but the lady at the check in desk gave me some kind of luggage upgrade so I paid no extra. i had stupid things that I didn't even need like digeridoos (sp) I flew with Etihad they were great!

Oh an I was more like 80KG.

Your clothes weigh less too, if you're skinny, so in a way you do get more allowance. Also- I have this sneaking suspicion that you'd be the first person moaning if you were asked to pay extra for your dc's pushchair and car seat, were you ever to travel with small dcs. There's that kind of have-it-all sense of smug entitlement emanating from your post...

Ratspeaker - Can't drive to Australia. Will just have to use a shipping company, or sell it all and start again (probably work out cheaper anyway!)

It is true, the airlines are flying people at all different weights, and some people who are under-weight (in terms of allotted average) don't take up all the quota the airline has made provision for.

When a fair way to sort that out is found, we could perhaps turn our attention to the simple question of the aboriginal population of Australia and how to sort out their integration and social inequity

I kind of agree with you, but it would be very unfair on tall people who could do nothing to change their weight.

Maybe there could be some kind of baggage allowance scale according to height. Or maybe they could just give everyone extra allowance and deduct it from thistle who are overweight?

I've always thought that you should have a combined allowance so you stand on the scales along with your case!
It annoys me when my case is 20.2kg and i'm told i have to pay extra, when the person in front weighs say 25 stone and i'm only 10 stone!

Because it would be discriminatory against a host of people due to a factor that they have no control over. Men are likely to be heavier, the tall weigh more than the short through no fault of their own etc. also the price of a ticket is based almost exclusively on the demand for it, not how much fuel will be used.
The excess for people going over their baggage allowance does in part go towards the off setting of fuel but also towards baggage handlers wages as well as acting as an incentive to travelight so that there is more room for commercial luggage and packages.

The baggage handlers don't carry you on the plane though do they?

BoneyBack imagine how much luggage a child could pack!! It would transform family holidays, it'd almost be worth taking extra children.

I don't believe it is discriminatory. Like I said, weight is a factual thing, not a subjective opinion. And children already pay a different fare to adults, so the same rule need not apply to children. What is difficult about a scale at the check-in counter to stand on with your luggage?
