To think I'm entitled to extra baggage allowance??

After six years in London, I'm moving back to Perth in October. Currently planning how to get my belongings (not that many) back with me. AIBU to think that I should be allowed more than the 20kg luggage allowance because I don't weigh very much? I'm 59kg. If I weighed 30kg more I'd still get the same allowance. Grossly unfair!

Onthebottom you beat me to it with the RufusRoo!! I bought one for my slightly eccentric Dad. He was so impressed with it, he thought it was something he had ordered himself and forgotten about. Most apt present I have bought for anyone in ages!!

I reckon you could easily get an extra 10 - 15kg on board!!

memo from the tall ones,

There will be no passing of freshly plucked fruits to those of disadvantaged size,

the mark up on blackberry and apple crumble / pie /jam is now set at 88,495,774%, this is to cover any future unexpected expenses.

MadBanners · 30/07/2012 18:38

Going on holiday would be a nightmare though. Slimmer and no souvenir crap from your holiday on the way...terrified on the way back you have to fork out loads extra for going over as you stuffed your face for 2 weeks at the all you can eat and have an assortment of odd never to be used gifts for family.

GhostShip · 30/07/2012 18:41

How bloody ridiculous.

I think you're forgetting that some people are taller and therefore heavier. Or someone with bigger boobs weighs more and so would a pregnant woman. A bodybuilder too!
You'd be discriminating against people, their bodies and their lifestyle choices. Just because you're lucky enough to be naturally skinny!

It is in no way relevant if someone weighs more because of fat or height or muscle. The weight is the same.

Rosa · 30/07/2012 19:03

Fly with an airline that gives you a decent luggage allowance e.g 2 cases of 23 kg each.
Wear an extra 30kg of clothes.
Ship your stuff like everybody else does.

quoteunquote · 30/07/2012 19:10

this will annoy you OP,

every time my husband and I fly together, we either get a free upgrade, or the seat with the emergency door with the extra leg room,

for two reasons,

my husband is 6 foot 10'', we both have 36'' inside leg, so we don't fit in the small seats, neither of us are over weight.

and the airline would like really strong people next to the emergency door, they say so each time. who do you want wrestling with door in an emergency, the really big strong person or the smaller weaker one?

we often get upgrade in hotels, when they set eyes on DH, as the hotel management want you to have a good night sleep.

thebody · 30/07/2012 19:25

So your 9 stone?? Not skinny unless you really tall?

GhostShip · 30/07/2012 19:34

I'm 5'4 and if I was 9 stone I'd look ill. So I'd class 9 stone as skinny if you're around my height or over.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 30/07/2012 19:41

I'm 5'4 and when I get to 9 stone I feel (and look a bit) fat and cut back on the Freddos.

McHappyPants2012 · 30/07/2012 19:42

i think it is fine how it is.

ivykaty44 · 30/07/2012 19:46

TBH I think you should be fined for having so many possesions, they aren't needed so just give them away and make others happy Grin

GhostShip · 30/07/2012 19:48

Freddos that's really strange! I'm 11 stone now but I don't think I look fat.

If I was 9 I don't think I'd look right. Im too hippy and booby and bummy ha

Bellsandwhistles200 · 30/07/2012 19:49

Over 2's pay 75% of full fare and the same for under 2's if you buy them a seat.

OP, who are you flying with as some are more lenient than others...

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 30/07/2012 19:56

That's you at 11 stone!!??

Wow. I wish I could still look like that at 11 stone! I look a simelar size but honestly, I feel porky and my size 10s get tight when I get up to 9 stone.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 30/07/2012 19:56

Should have added that my tits aren't anywhere near that good though. Not since the dc ate them Sad

GhostShip · 30/07/2012 19:59

I'm suppose I'm really really lucky that I can carry the extra weight, my bmi says I should be over weight but I can't really see it tbh. May be rose tinted specs but ah well. I've not been a size ten since I was 13 because of my hips boo.

This is exactly the reason why I disagree massively with the OP though, the differences that people cannot help are amazing.

RuthlessBaggage · 30/07/2012 19:59

The technology already exists to weigh you and your luggage at check-in.

Do not give them ideas.

YABU.

Upgrading to first or business will usually increase your luggage allowance, and is often cheaper than shipping. Worth researching.

DowagersHump · 30/07/2012 21:34

I've paid the same but I've never taken him on a long haul flight - just shorthaul.

If we're going to extend the logic on this, families should pay a lot less on the basis that they rarely use their 20kg luggage allowance for every single member of the family - me and DS put one 20kg bag in the hold between us. And there's no weight allowance for carry on luggage so there's nothing to stop you loading your carry on bag with ingots if that's what's weighing you down OP

missorinoco · 30/07/2012 21:41

For some reason I now have a mental image of people over 70kg being told at check in they must leave one of their legs behind if they want to fly.

OP, you're not going to get anywhere with this, but rest assured if you gain 20kg you won't have to travel in the nude with no clothes.

StuntGirl · 30/07/2012 21:46

I love these batshit crazy threads. One rolls around every month or two, I love how the OP can never see the sheer unworkable nature of what they're proposing. All so they can fit a few extra clothes in their bag Hmm

kirsty75005 · 31/07/2012 07:56

Last time I flew, my then two year old daughter was charged full fare for a seat. She weighed 12kg.

I was then charged a large amount for the extra baggage (1 pushchair, weight about 5 kg) I had to take because I was going on holiday with a small child.

I was pretty annoyed about that.

2rebecca · 31/07/2012 08:02

I think they should weigh the person and their luggage and charge accordingly, although you could argue a skinny person is unlikely to be able to carry a large case and their clothes will be smaller and weigh less so the larger person should get the bigger luggage allowance as they can carry it and have larger sized stuff.
If you want more baggage allowance you pay for it or choose an airline with more.
Most people moving to Oz send alot of stuff by boat anyway.

QuinionsRainbow · 31/07/2012 12:31

Please, pleease, pleeease, don't let Ryanair get hold of the idea of weighing us before we fly!
