Why does the queen never wear a crown?

Just what it says in the title really

I know security reasons and all that but this is the Olympics the most secure event London is holding surely she could manage a crown or at least a tiara at least make a effort your majesty

FGS, she parachuted into the stadium! How much more of an effort do you want her to make?

MsVestibule · 27/07/2012 21:37

Just in case anybody was wondering, I do know she didn't actually parachute in...

YellowDinosaur · 27/07/2012 21:37

:o

bigkidsdidit · 27/07/2012 21:37

I know! I would. 'I is the queen! Give me the koh I nor!'

DuckingHell · 27/07/2012 21:37

She wants to cheer up a bit that's for sure

savlonqueen · 27/07/2012 21:38

If she actually parachuted i would of forgiven the no crown thing you know being that it could of fallen into the hands of the "common folk" but whats with the no crown my daughter always wants to know why she does not wear it and i have no clue

I'd imagine it weighs a ton.

Plus you cant have that kind of thing out too often, big security risk.

I've only seen it worn on state occaisons.

MsVestibule · 27/07/2012 21:38

Although savlon I know what you mean. I'd love an opportunity to wear my wedding tiara again. Cost me 35 quid, it did. For one outing.

DanyTargaryen · 27/07/2012 21:39

If she wore it all the time she'd walk with a permenant stoop.

She wears tiaras a lot instead. Lighter, see. :o

savlonqueen · 27/07/2012 21:39

There is probably more security at the Olympics than there is where ever she has those crowns stashed it often makes me wonder if shes sent them off to cash for gold so she can buy more corgis

Because they are really heavy and she's in her 80s. Give her a break.

bigkidsdidit · 27/07/2012 21:42

I'd insist on going everywhere in that gold carriage too

If I were queen there'd be a second revolution Grin

Pascha · 27/07/2012 21:44

2,868 diamonds, 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, and 5 rubies. Imagine tripping over and unsettling that lot!

savlonqueen · 27/07/2012 21:45

If i was queen i would not care if i needed someone to hold my head up for me i would always be wearing a crown possibly two just because i could

The crown jewels would always be worn somehow as well she does not seem to love them as much as i would

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 27/07/2012 21:59

she told peppa pig that it is rather heavy.

savlonqueen · 27/07/2012 22:16

I will happily wear it for her and i think she should share it round since she doesnt my daughter and me will happily take them off her hands

She wears the Imperial State Crown for opening Parliament. The St Edward's Crown (used for the crowning the monarch) is too heavy to wear for more than a few minutes.

Crowns aren't everyday wear, and I think she'd look pretty absurd if she wore one for an occasion like this.

lovebunny · 27/07/2012 23:05

crowns are heavy.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/07/2012 23:06

Her head must still be sweaty from the riding hats she wears

Personal bugbear of mine. I know it's not a legal requirement and she's an adult so makes her own choices. But she's setting a bad example considering she's a rekown equestrienne.

Ride butt naked if you want but don't have photos published. And that goes for riding hats too Hmm

savlonqueen · 27/07/2012 23:07

Im sorry but the fact its heavy is not really a reason it wouldnt put me off i only wanted her to wear it when she arrived

Your the queen wear a crown simples !!

"Give me the koh I nor!"

Ha ha ha ha ha Grin

Very funny.

WorraLiberty · 27/07/2012 23:11

OP I said exactly the same thing.

She looks lovely in what she's wearing but I would have liked to see some serious head bling.

FGS, she parachuted into the stadium! How much more of an effort do you want her to make?

MsVestibule I just read that out to my DH and my 2 DS's are rolling around laughing Grin

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 23:12

I think you're being silly. Would you want to wear 2.2 kilos on your head?

And crown wearing other than for state occasions is utter overkill. Please do tell me all the occasions you expect her to wear one.

ilovesooty · 27/07/2012 23:12

Sorry: that was to the OP.

GnocchiNineDoors · 27/07/2012 23:18

She could just get a pretendy one from Claire's Accessories for stuff like this though, surely?
