Susieloo · 10/07/2012 21:57

I don't Hoover the mattress but I do Hoover my furniture i.e the coffee table instead of polishingSmile

CherryCheesecake · 10/07/2012 21:58

I do that as well, saves time :)

I hoover my grass and patio. Not as bad as it sounds as i dont use the house vac but have a special garden vac made by flymo

50ShadesOfGreggs · 10/07/2012 21:59

I have always done it. It gets rid of he dust mites

CherryCheesecake · 10/07/2012 21:59

50ShadesOfGreggs · 10/07/2012 22:00

*the dust mites, even

Marrow · 10/07/2012 22:00

YANBU. You must hoover the mattress! I empty the Dyson first and then take a perverse pleasure in watching how much gets sucked up. It is pretty revolting and I vacuum mine regularly.

ElephantsCanRemember · 10/07/2012 22:00

I hoover my mattress, and I always make sure the hoover is empty first so I can see exactly how much crap comes out of it.

CuriosityCola · 10/07/2012 22:01

I thought everyone did this. If you sprinkle it with bicarbonate of soda and leave it for half and hour first, it freshens your bed.

ElephantsCanRemember · 10/07/2012 22:01

Marrow So glad I'm not the only one to do that Grin

ElephantsCanRemember · 10/07/2012 22:02

Curiosity I didn't know that. So hoover first then bicarb? Or bicab first then half hour later hoover it?

CuriosityCola · 10/07/2012 22:02

Grin @ 50shadesofgreggs. Great nickname!

CherryCheesecake · 10/07/2012 22:02

Some good tips, empty dyson and bi carb.

I think i read somewhere about it getting rid of dust mites/bed bugs.

OP posts:
Stannwigg · 10/07/2012 22:03

I thought you were going to say decking!

CuriosityCola · 10/07/2012 22:04

Bicarb first, then hoover. Think it's meant to neutralise odours? To be fair, I got this from my nana and she used Bicarb for everything Smile

oreocrumbs · 10/07/2012 22:04

You must hoover the mattress!

It is unbelievable how much dust and debris comes off. I'm a regular bed changer and have protective covers etc and still I get a good few inches of dust in the hoover from one mattress!

When you think that the vast majority of dust in the house is made up of dead skin and how fast that mounts up - think about how much you shed when you are in a confined space for 8 hours a day. Confused

Emu38 · 10/07/2012 22:05

I have hoovered the mattress but I really don't know if it's actually cleaning it at all, just makes me feel better. How much crap actually comes out of it, I've never noticed?

FuckerSnailInYourHedgerow · 10/07/2012 22:05

I have never done this, nor do I intend to. I have a Henry though, and I suspecct he would be a bit unwieldy.
