Yes I Hoover my mattress. I also used to Hoover the furniture instead of polishing but I lost the brush attachment. I'd rather the dust go inside the Hoover than just float about and resettle, as that's what seems to happen if I polish with pledge and a duster.

Jaffacakeeater · 10/07/2012 22:08

Ooh definitely hoover. Don't most mattresses double their weight in (I don't know how many) years because of all the dead skin and shite? Will be investigating whether bicarbonate of soda and Tempur are compatible!

MyDogShitsMoney · 10/07/2012 22:08

The stuff that comes out when you Hoover a mattress is absolutely minging.

Once you've done it the first time you'll never look back.

Absolutely agree with those who say empty the dyson first. It's oddly compulsive viewing!

AllPastYears · 10/07/2012 22:13

I hoover the mattress too despite being a total slattern.

5madthings · 10/07/2012 22:14

i always hoover the mattress when i change the bedsheets to get rid of dust mites etc, i think its recomended? i have eczema and it helps my skin so its a no brainer for me!

youarekidding · 10/07/2012 22:29

PMSL @ measuring how much dust you suck up.

Think we have the hoover porners - horners anyone? Grin

MyDogShitsMoney · 10/07/2012 23:23

Oh I'm definitely a horner!

I always empty it before hoovering anything that looks like it might yield a good return Grin

Jiggleballs123 · 10/07/2012 23:25

I hoover the mattress I imagine I'm hoovering up bedbugs.

AdoraBell · 10/07/2012 23:27

Not your fault he doesn't know how to clean a mattress, is it. YANBU!

bronze · 10/07/2012 23:29

Depends do you have a Hoover or another make of vacuum? Grin

I vacuum outs every now and then

Viviennemary · 10/07/2012 23:29

I don't get it. If the sheet is on the bed how can dust and bits get through to the matress? Confused

attheendoftheday · 11/07/2012 00:36

That's a pretty normal thing to do, I think.

Your thread title made me think of the oddest things I've ever hoovered. I have hoovered the cat, and a sheep's skull. I once saw a neighbour hoovering their garden path.

NoComet · 11/07/2012 07:39

Ours doesn't get hovered, but the spare bed certainly does before my dust allergic DSIS uses it.

SoleSource · 11/07/2012 08:24

I Rug Dr our mattresses twice per year. Hoover inbetween.

WhatEverItIsIDidntDoIt · 11/07/2012 08:58

Can I please Inform you all that you don't hoover anything but you actually VACUUM

Hoover is a brand name of vacuum cleaner and I highly doubt many of you own that particular type of machine!

rainydaysarebad · 11/07/2012 08:59

Wow, I'm going to do this today. Will report back on how much crap came out. We bought our mattress 3 years ago.

Odmedod · 11/07/2012 09:08

Could I ask what types of vacuums you have- looking for a decent anti-allergy/asthma type one (though obv asthma might be improved if I actually vacuumed the mattress!)

blonderthanred · 11/07/2012 09:10

Whatever, it's like Sellotape, the brand has become synonymous with the noun/adj. Just language evolving. And very clever/fortuitous early branding.

blonderthanred · 11/07/2012 09:11

/verb

poorbuthappy · 11/07/2012 09:12

I will be doing this today I have decided.

I vacuum the dog regularly.

theodorakis · 11/07/2012 09:12

Yes to hoovering mattresses. I also have 2 hoovers so I can hoover the dust out of the Dyson...

SleepyFergus · 11/07/2012 09:16

I've recently bought Ind of those steam generating irons (which is fab btw - ironing is 'pleasurable' now) and wondered about ironing the matresses. I reckon the high pressure steam would kill off any nasties. Anyone tried this?

Obv after vacuuming first!

Hopeforever · 11/07/2012 09:29

That's it, I'm getting my Dyson out to hoover. Will be listening to this to get me in the mood

Warning this song is very addictive and you will find yourself humming it all day

Also, as it has the word hoovering in it, hoovering must be a verb in its own right now due to common usage

CherryCheesecake · 11/07/2012 11:12

I have a dyson, but vacuum sounds to posh where I live so its Hoover.
