err not sure, sorry. Phone a hair dresser tomorrow?

manicbmc · 17/06/2012 01:10

Dd used a colour stripper and hers is still a browny/orange colour. Dye it purple.

Birdsgottafly · 17/06/2012 01:11

It will possibly turn green. I wouldn't, tbh.

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 01:14

Oh god! May have to send the oldest out for purple dye tomorrow then am not being seen like this am blonde on roots redish in middle blonde on ends!

bogeyface · 17/06/2012 01:16

I wouldnt use the blonde.

A light brown should cover it ok, if you cant afford a hairdresser, but use a semi permenant as more peroxide etc on it wont do it any favours.

Next time do a strand test!!!!

I say this as someone who had orange hair thanks to a colour stripper! i always do a strand test now if it is a colour I havent used before!

manicbmc · 17/06/2012 01:17

I was kidding! I have no idea. I had a dye test done the last time I had my hair cut and my ear scabbed up for a week so I'm just going to live with my grey and train it into a streak.

bogeyface · 17/06/2012 01:18

Whatever colour you pick, dont use a permenant, and use the weakest semi you can find, I think 6-8 washes is the weakest? You hair is very porous at the moment so it will take much deeper than on non bleached hair and you dont want to make it worse.

And do a strand test before you dye, or did I mention that? Wink

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 01:23

Oh no purple then, though actually might cover it!!
Will have to try a brown.
Why did i think this was a good idea!

you need a hairdresser, tomorrow wear a hat then book yourself into a hairdresser monday...phone in sick if you work

bogeyface · 17/06/2012 01:29

I agree that a hairdresser would be best but often people home colour because they cant afford a hairdresser and that doesnt change because of a disaster.

Remember weak colour and to strand test 3teen, infact you could buy a few shades and strand test them all to see which one covers best.

Good luck!

bogeyface · 17/06/2012 01:30

Oh and bonus.....its pissing it down so you can legitimately wear a hat!

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 01:34

Looking out hats already!! Am def not appearing at work if not sorted!!

If I were you I would strip your hair again, It definitely will not go green, even if you do dye it again straight away, but dying again so soon after stripping could cause re oxidization which will darken your hair taking you back to stage one.

Would you not be willing to use a lightener? Bleaches can be used immediately after stripping colour and will make you blonde.
Maybe get a friend on hand to assist with getting the darker bits if possible,so you can lighten them for longer than the lighter strands.

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 01:52

Thanks shirt i will have a look at whats in boots tomorrow, whilst wearing my hat!
Will a lightener be called that? Odd question but just checking

OP posts:
bogeyface · 17/06/2012 01:53

There is usually a lightner on the shelf with the blonde dyes, they are designed for use on dark hair before you go blonde. What did you use tonight then, if not a lightner?

bogeyface · 17/06/2012 01:54

It was a lightner that did for me, but I was 19 (20 years ago) and didnt read the instructions properly, so dont panic :o

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 01:57

It was called colour strip, designed to remove old dye before you dye again

OP posts:
bogeyface · 17/06/2012 02:01

It sounds like the same stuff as lightner, just with a different name.

I would go with the lightener idea, better than mine if you want to start from scratch.

Good luck :)

PS. you might want to just do a quick strand tes.....oh wait, I think i mentioned that already :o

izzyizin · 17/06/2012 02:02

If you use a colour stripper on hair that's been dyed with a tint that contains red, it tends to produce a ginger tabby effect Grin.

What shade of blonde were you intending to use? A dark-ish ash blonde should have your hair looking human great again. If the one you've got is of a light or bright blonde variety, pick something up in Boots or Superdrug later today.

izzyizin · 17/06/2012 02:04

A 'lightener' contains peroxide which makes dark hair light enough to take a shade that is a lot lighter than the hair's natural colour

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 02:07

I will strand test, promise!!

Its an ash blond i have brought

OP posts:
bogeyface · 17/06/2012 02:09

Why not buy a lightner and test hair with just the hair dye and then some with the lightner and then the dye and see which comes out best?

izzyizin · 17/06/2012 02:11

It should be fine. I wouldn't bother with a strand test I'd use it now and go get a darker shade if it doesn't work out.

izzyizin · 17/06/2012 02:13

Using a lightener will only serve to further lighten hair that's already been lightened by stripping out a darker colour, iyswim, bogey.

bogeyface · 17/06/2012 02:14

You are mad crackers off your bleeding rocker brave Izzy! But I was once where the OP is now and I am now a colouring coward :o
