The stripper you used contained a 'lightning agent' such as peroxide amongst other ingredients. As your hair's already been lightened in places you now need to obtain a uniform colour effect by using a tint such as the ash blonde one you already have.

My dd made the mistake of using a dark-ish red dye on her hair and we went through this process when she wanted to revert back to her natural ash blonde colour.

Once the stripper had done it's work, her was ginger in places, yellow blonde in others the screams were piercing but an ash blonde tint gave her back gleaming dark blonde tresses she was born with.

If you read this before you hotfoot it Boots, 3teen, I suggest you do a strand test using your ash blonde tint before you rush to spend money on a lightner.

izzyizin · 17/06/2012 02:49

should read 'hotfoot it to Boots.

Chateau Izzy has witnessed more than a few feats of derring-do, bogey, and hopefully there'll be more to come Grin

I did this, I used a lightened then a natural blonde shade that said it could be used after the lightener. Both dies I used were L'oreal. It is now a lighting blonde although the roots are a tiny but lighter than the ends it's hardly noticeable and I can go out in public nowGrin

DairyNips · 17/06/2012 04:00

Lightener

DairyNips · 17/06/2012 04:00

DyesHmm

DairyNips · 17/06/2012 04:01

Jeez, so many typos, hope you can make sense of the rest!

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 10:15

Welll woken up this morning and just look ginger, my boys laughed at me!
Done a strand test with the ash blonde didn't seem to change much! So think i may lighten again first

I really wouldn't put any more peroxide on it (lightener). It will damage your hair (it'll turn to cotton wool!) and may even make it break off.

Just put a semi-permanent colour on it.

ifherbumwereabungalow · 17/06/2012 13:10

Just been through this rigmarole myself, and eventually ended up with three tone hair, blonde roots, orange mid section, then blonde ends, I looked a bit like a rocket ice lolly! After much faffing about, I have managed to get it all a basic uniform colour by using Garnier Nutrisse number 7, dark blonde nourishing foam. It's a darker shade than I would have chosen, but at least it's all the same colour! Good luck!

newyearnewattitude · 17/06/2012 13:42

I did this about 3 months ago and had the same result as you but thought sod it and just chucked a vibrant red on top... It was pretty much pillar box red then! Grin then when it calmed down after 2-3 weeks i put a permanent on -mystic purple and its a lovely deep purple shade! I wrnt and had a cur and blow dry last week (good old groupon deal) and the hairdresser said my colour was lovely with nice undertones!!

Be brave, have fun!

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 13:55

Am currently putting a dark brown on which looks to be going slightly purple, i can live with that!!

3teenhell · 17/06/2012 22:00

Do not dye hair cos you are bored at 1am! Thanks for all the advice at least i can go to work now without looking an idiot!!

bogeyface · 17/06/2012 22:35

I dunno why I bother......STRAND TEST :o:o

ShirtRipper · 17/06/2012 23:36

Strippers do not contain peroxide. They basically shrink the colour molecules which enables them to be rinsed out of the hair.

bogeyface · 17/06/2012 23:52

Shirt, does that mean that if you use a stripper and then wash your hair it should go back(ish) to its natural colour?

3teenhell · 18/06/2012 00:15

Lol sorry and to strand test!!!

OP posts:
3teenhell · 18/06/2012 00:17

Go for a semi permanent light ash blond - no red undertones - and leave it on for 20 minutes.
Colour the parts that are round your face and hair part first then the rest and condition like crazy afterwards.
Remember: ash blonde with no reds - if in doubt ask a person working there - and ask if they know about hair colours first.
This ash blond should restore your hair to a brown, without the red, in a few weeks you can colour again.

Clairol Nice and Easy foam semi-permanent you are looking for 6A Light Ash Brown, or 8A Medium Ash Blonde.
