To be extraordinarily angry with John Lewis

Waited in 2-9 for washer (not had one for three weeks) yesterday. It didn't turn up. Delivery rearranged for 2-9 today, so I decided to ring at 5 just to check, washer still in depot. I have taken 2 afternoons off to wait in, and so need to make hours up. They said they will courier it to me before 9 tonight, I don't believe them now. Would aibu to call them again and confirm they organised courier?

YANBU. What a pain.

JL is amazing for service usually. Personally, I would see if they live up to their guarantee of delievery this afternoon, and if not - unleash hell.
Tell them the next delivery time will have to be in 2 hours at a time of your choosing.
You might get a few Cath Kidston mugs out of it.

Floggingmolly · 01/06/2012 17:34

You are wise not to believe them. They have become unbelievably shite, whatever made them special has definitely long since departed. Sad

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 18:03

I rang them and said I wanted to check they would take the old one away. I feel like crying. No clean clothes working next five days on call over weekend. No clean pants! Ty for the replies, feel better for a vent. I'm going to go batshit crazy if it doesn't turn up later.

Something must have happened then to change their service. JL have always been great for me.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 01/06/2012 18:25

Seen lots of threads like this recently, doesn't bode well does it?

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 18:30

I agree they are usually very good. On this occasion not
so much.

It depends if it's their own delivery or a contractor.

ebbandflow · 01/06/2012 18:33

I had really good service from John Lewis when I ordered a washer from them, it was one of their own delivery vans.

Hopandaskip · 01/06/2012 18:34

Kick up a big stink with a manager, keep kicking until they compensate you somehow. Be polite and smiley to start with and get progressively louder and shouty if nothing is happening. Refuse to go to manager's office and pick a busy shopping day so other shoppers can hear.

Loolumboolum · 01/06/2012 18:35

I saw something on money saving expert about being able to claim for lost working time due to delivery screwups... Worth a google? Sorry, emerging lurker newly switched from the other-site-that-shall-not-be-named!

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 18:36

The depot I phoned was John Lewis park royal. To be fair the lady on the phone was helpful but I don't believe it will arrive.

There have been quite a few threads on here about how awful JL service is - the last one I read they had delivered a second hand bed to a lady and toook it away as it was broken - leaving her without a bed to sleep on...

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 18:40

I'm going to be so angry if it doesn't arrive before nine. I have a vein
pulsing in my forehead.

Waitrose gave me £50 worth of shopping free yesterday because of 2 cock ups in delivery. Call customer service and request to speak to the manager, be polite but give him/her an ear bashing. Ask them to resolve the issue within set time frame. Then request compensation. Alternatively use twitter. Always works! Grin

rhondajean · 01/06/2012 20:08

Geraldine did you have to take time off work? You can claim against them - not for the first afternoon off but for subsequent.

Ts all on the moneysavingexpert website if you have a look.

PanicMode · 01/06/2012 20:11

I will never again use JL after a nightmare experience with them recently, buying a very expensive dryer. I think they must have outsourced their delivery people or something because they had always been very good up until then. When I phoned to moan they more or less said, "it's not my problem".

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 20:11

I had to take time off today and yesterday. They have 51 minutes before I officially implode! Thanks for all the tips.

JL is a good store but their delivery service is atrocious. I had something delivered a couple of years ago. I told them three times I had to do the school run yet they turned up bang in the middle of me picking up the children. Then, their delivery man was incredibly rude.

I try to avoid buying from there now as a result.

bluehorizon · 01/06/2012 20:16

Waiting in is sooooo stressful - especially if you don't know when (or if) they are coming. We had exactly this with John Lewis delivering a tumble dryer. I used to adore them because of their customer service and now there is a definite change....

Kayano · 01/06/2012 20:16

John Lewis tried to tell me I had not recieved a phone call when I had

I actually pulled out my mumsnet app on the nursery department floor and showed them a thread I started in the pushchair section chronicling the time date and content of conversation.

I had even commented on thy guys accent

The woman was like 'oh.... That would have been Peter...' and made some frantic ass phone calls

I'm not sure John Lewis actually live up to their reputation!

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 20:20

I'm really getting stressed now. I know it's a trivial problem in the grand scheme of things but I'm going to have to dress ds in a carrier bag (waitrose obviously) and individual serving baked bean pots for shoes. My LL bought the washer for us so I can't even cancel without his say so. Cocknobs.

Dawndonna · 01/06/2012 20:24

There was a thing by Martin Lewis recently stating that you can claim for time spent waiting. Might be worth checking the mse website.

treefumaster · 01/06/2012 20:28

I think JL are increasingly rubbish. They do not deserve their reputation at all - delivery is useless. I'm surprised you haven't been on the phone to them hourly since yesterday. It's very poor.

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 20:29

Only 32 mins left. It's not going to arrive. I'm furious. Another week no machine. Argh!
