To be extraordinarily angry with John Lewis

Waited in 2-9 for washer (not had one for three weeks) yesterday. It didn't turn up. Delivery rearranged for 2-9 today, so I decided to ring at 5 just to check, washer still in depot. I have taken 2 afternoons off to wait in, and so need to make hours up. They said they will courier it to me before 9 tonight, I don't believe them now. Would aibu to call them again and confirm they organised courier?

Regards the school run, I'm surprised that you could specify to that detail. Other stores give you an am or pm slot and even then it's a bit dodgy. Maybe JL have spolit us in the past.

PullUpAPew · 01/06/2012 20:46

JL were awful for us too. YANBU to be stressed. Can you ask anyone to do some emergency washing for you?

landofsoapandglory · 01/06/2012 20:54

John Lewis cocked up the delivery of an iPad last week. They gave me a before 10 delivery slot for the next day and once the manager saw that it had been delivered he rang me and gave me a goodwill payment of £50.

OfflineFor30Years · 01/06/2012 20:59

They mucked up a delivery of mine this week. Out of an order of three items - one was delivered as indicated, one was found by a passerby in the middle of the road 8 miles away (he kindly looked me up in the phonebook to let me know) and the other was apparently "in the van, due for delivery today" each day for the past 4 days. It finally arrived tonight. Courier's fault but seeing as my purchase was with JL, they're the ones to blame ultimately.

StanleyLambchop · 01/06/2012 21:02

Has it arrived yet ? (Baited Breath)

PatsysPyjamas · 01/06/2012 21:02

Did the delivery arrive Geraldine?

I do think JL has gone downhill. I always buy children's shoes there but have had so many problems with their own brand shoes. Last lot of JL girls' shoes I bought I had to return for falling apart, then had to return their replacements, and then their replacements.

Look up your local launderette. Ours take 3 normal-sized loads per machine and only costs a few quid (cheaper if you pop back to bung in the drier yourself). You'll be done in an hour.

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 21:04

It didn't arrive im so angry! Screeching harpy angry!

ebbandflow · 01/06/2012 21:07

Oh no-feel for you, it is awful managing without a washing machine. Wonder what has happened to JL.

hermioneweasley · 01/06/2012 21:10

Aargh! Feeling your pain. This stuff isn't hard, why do companies find it so difficult? I always assume things won't be delivered it so rarely works out first time.

TheToadLessTravelled · 01/06/2012 21:10

Another one with horrendous experiences of John Lewis. They completely cocked up the delivery of our nursery order - took several months to get all the items. Spent countless hours on the phone to them heavily pregnant and hormonal trying to sort out the damn delivery before i delivered! Not one penny of compensation or apology from them. I now only visit their stores to try products then buy online from other suppliers, they are not getting another penny out of me Angry

BellaOfTheBalls · 01/06/2012 21:12

And now...unleash hell.

Have been using JL for our wedding gift list service. While their website is appalling (crashes, full of bugs, slow) their service thus far has been good. Although as me that again once they've delivered the damn stuff....

Flisspaps · 01/06/2012 21:13

This is the time to get on twitter with a %23johnlewis hashtag and a link to this thread!

igggi · 01/06/2012 21:13

I live in a city with a JL branch. The courier JL use is based in an industrial estate about 15-20 miles outside the city, which is where you are expected to go to collect if you miss the delivery. I never order from them online anymore because of this.

GeraldineAubergine · 01/06/2012 21:14

They just promised dp twenty mins. I wouldn't mind but iv a really heavy five days of work coming up and no time for laundry and arguing.

what has happened to JL - they are trying to copy M&S

M&S was te great company of the 70's and 80's with great products and great service - there staff even had a chiropodist, then M&S just relied on their good name but pulled the plugs on servie and their quality.

Jl seem to want to do the same, they give crap service relying on the fact they used to have a good name

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 01/06/2012 21:29

Glad it arrived eventually. Hope you still get something for your wasted time.

Melfish · 01/06/2012 21:49

Am so glad it arrived! John Lewis have great instore service but their delivery can be truly pants. I had a similar experience with Park Royal when I had taken the day off and they told me on the day they couldn't deliver. I told the man on the phone that I had taken the day off etc and said that I needed the fridge and dryer as I had a small child. To their credit they sent a hired van out later that day but they couldn't reverse the fridge door as they had been asked to. so I went in store and complained at the kitchen equipment counter and they sent an engineer out to do it for me. So if you bought it in store then go and speak to them and they may be able to do something. Don't order stuff for delivery from the web as their online customer services is equally shocking!

slowlyburningcalories · 01/06/2012 22:27

Never order online from jL, when they came to deliver our wedding items it was between 1-8pm and they turned up at half past nine at night!

Increasingly finding poor customer service, we ordered buggy £200 ish and waited weeks then I went in to ask where it was, turned out they simply hadn't lets know it was waiting for collection!
