amillionyears · 31/05/2012 12:25

I'm sure it's bad form to c&p one's own posts but, y'know, sod it.

Why the monarchy isn't harmless: I think the fact that our current Queen is neutral and well-mannered obscures the facts that:

a) they still own EVERYTHING. You know what a freehold is? It means the Crown has sold you the right to use the land. It is still technically owned by them.

b) the monarch still has enormous potential power. Yes our recent monarchs haven't exercised it much, but they are at the heart of the power structure in this country and, if someone with strong beliefs were to be born into the position, the potential for harm is enormous. As well as owning all the land, they also command the entire armed forces and the state church, and get to (technically) choose a Prime Minister and have to sign off on all our laws. And they can't be sacked or voted out. Just think about that for a sec and imagine it in the hands of someone with extreme views.

softpaw · 31/05/2012 12:36

Oh come off it Elephants! You really think Queenie is involved in our day to day politics? She approved the Pastie tax?

SlipperyNipple · 31/05/2012 12:40

I quite like the Queen and I quite like bunting. Love a party.

TheWomanFormerlyKnownAsSGM · 31/05/2012 12:41

I find "kraut" and "ayrab" offensive and racist. I don't buy into the reclaiming racist language twaddle either.

softpaw · 31/05/2012 12:41

hurray slippery nipple (cool name ,by the way)

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:43

I find them offensive and racist when used seriously.

It is of course your right to find them offensive and racist in all contexts.

OP posts:
SlipperyNipple · 31/05/2012 12:44

Why thank you softpaw.

SlipperyNipple · 31/05/2012 12:47

While I do get where you are coming from it does seem very grumpy and boring. Apparently parents have complained about the party and bunting at my sons nursery. It's just a harmless party. The kids will get excited.

There is so much real darkness and pain in the world and I can't think this is the issue to get all worked up by.

TheWomanFormerlyKnownAsSGM · 31/05/2012 12:47

Would you find the term n or p** funny when not used in a "racist context" because they are the same.

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:49

see above slippery ^^

I don't understand your question sgm or what N or p means.

Do you mean N and p**?

OP posts:
OracleInAMonarchale · 31/05/2012 12:50

I agree with SGM, I agree with republicism in principle, but I don't think xenophobic or racist namecalling is ever funny.

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:50

I mean do you mean n***?

OP posts:
softpaw · 31/05/2012 12:51

Hully if you don't think you are racist, then you should re-read this whole post

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:51

nor do I

Please see above about the German point (400 times)

OP posts:
Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:52

Oh all right I'm racist. Ok?

Will that do?

I'm a racist
I'm a racist
I'm a racist
I'm a racist
I'm a racist

OP posts:
softpaw · 31/05/2012 12:52
