Erect the scaffold.

Up the Republicans.

We are ADULTS we don't need a feudalistic Divine Right of Kings addled parasitical bunch of halfwits to live off our taxes.

"Beacuse in name only translates into acceptance of an entire system of hierarchy and unearned privilege."

Clearly not if the sentiment on this thread is anything to go by.

grimbletart · 31/05/2012 12:02

Quenelle: have a good time in France. Why not take some of the ranting Republicans on here with you to France where, as we all know, everything is just tickety boo in the wonderful Eurozone Grin

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:03

daisy Grin

But the system DOES exist, just a few of us who repudiate it here.

Psammead There are plenty of intelligent Americans so don't feel bad for the thickos. And if I posted 'lovely' after every offensive comment on here, I'd have no room to post anything else.

A quick scan of Mr Google informs me that the financial net benefit of the Royal Family is positive. Her influence across the world is generally considered to be a good one and it seems that it's only people living in this country who have a problem with her, even though she's a harmless old lady.

grimbletart · 31/05/2012 12:05

Not to also mention of course how all the wonderfully democratic republican countries in it have to kowtow to the wonderfully democratic unelected European Commission........

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:05

she's a harmless old lady.

er.....................

My slight uneasiness about the jubilee stuff is I have a slight thought that some people are sheep. So,if there was a bit of an anti anything, then people would jump on that too beacuse other people have, iyswim

happybubblebrain · 31/05/2012 12:05

I don't like the Royals as much as the next person, and I think they should bugger off but I'm still joining in with the celebrations because it's fun for my dd and I don't want to miss out on a party either.

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:05

no?

She's never harmed me.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 31/05/2012 12:07

I know, let's get rid of the RF, elect a power-crazed President and end up with two elected knob-heads who mess up the country even more. Good idea, non?

DinahMoHum · 31/05/2012 12:08

the whole thing pisses me off. The monarchy piss me off, the whole big love of the bloody royals in the last year gives me the rage.

MarySA · 31/05/2012 12:08

I am anti-royalist. Strange how the Americans soooooooooooooo love our Royal family but chose not to have royals of their own. Hmmmm.

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:09

elect a power-crazed President

is that a compulsory alternative?

OP posts:
loveisagirlnameddaisy · 31/05/2012 12:10

I believe a republic has a president and prime minister. Or possibly not? Feel free to correct me.

squoosh · 31/05/2012 12:10

Hully the President would be a figure head rather than someone with actual power. Ireland has had a couple of really good Presidents recently, Mary Robinson and Mary MacAleese. I was more than happy for Ireland to be represented by these women.

Psammead · 31/05/2012 12:11

Loveis - I think is Queen is basically ok. She's not done anything terribly outrageous, has kept fit, phyically and mentally, looks regal, does what she's told etc.

Does that qualify her childen for the job? And their children? Ad infinitum? Before Kate's child is even conceived and born, it will one day represent your children or grandchildren. Is that fair? On anyone, including itself as it effectively has no choice of how to lead its own life. Supporting the queen means supporting this system.

softpaw · 31/05/2012 12:12

psammead..I have millions of views on millions of things at one time.
I'm Scottish,so the whole English fest doesn't excite me,but how can you all get so angry about the jubilee, when there are so many atrocities going on around the world? I'm not worried that my neighbours are going to slit my children's throats today.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 31/05/2012 12:13

Because when the US was born, royalty wasn't always a good thing - the things a lot of people complain of were actually happening. But interesting that they do still love ours - why do you think that is??

lashingsofbingeinghere · 31/05/2012 12:13

Am I too late to point out how many North European countries have a monarchy?

amillionyears · 31/05/2012 12:13

Just asking, what happens if there are bad presidents.Anything?

Hullygully · 31/05/2012 12:13

I'm not worried that my neighbours are going to slit my children's throats today.

Oh good. Is that something you normally worry about then?

OP posts:
sieglinde · 31/05/2012 12:13

Yes, of course it does.:) But my point was that all of us here are auslanders, so having an auslander monarch might be appropriate. Actually very few monarchs of England have been very English...

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 31/05/2012 12:14

Psammead I guess I am coming at it from the viewpoint that the royal family doesn't do very much that actually affects me or my children. They don't have any constitutional powers anymore.

I would be interested to know how converting to a republic would benefit me?

Psammead · 31/05/2012 12:14

Softpaw, again, I am not sure why I can only worry about the massive issues of today and not care about the less significant stuff as well.
