Erect the scaffold.

We are ADULTS we don't need a feudalistic Divine Right of Kings addled parasitical bunch of halfwits to live off our taxes.

OK have it your way-everyone yawned-no one turned out, London was completely normal, the concert got 150 people, and there were no boats on the river, no one watched it on TV, there were no street parties, no bunting was bought and the republicans had a massive silent progress where everyone took to the street and the whole thing was marred by violence.

perceptionreality · 05/06/2012 20:31

lol exoticfruits - nobody has said people have not done those things.

We know people have done them and we can't understand why! That's the point!

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 05/06/2012 20:43

But are you arrogant enough to think they're all misguided sheep?

BupcakesandCunting · 05/06/2012 20:45

"I think Feast lollies are fab - I don't want them poncing about in carriages wishing they were tampons."

Quote of the YEAR.

perceptionreality · 05/06/2012 20:57

'But are you arrogant enough to think they're all misguided sheep?'

Er, no I'm not in the least arrogant. I don't understand it. (awaits explanation)

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 05/06/2012 21:04

Maybe there's nothing to understand. Maybe there isn't a cold rational argument that you can attach to not wanting to see an end to the monarchy. Maybe it's purely emotional, deeply rooted in our sense of who we are as a nation, something that's instilled in you from an early age.

The sheep comment was in response to an earlier comment which suggested that even though the overwhelming majority of this country supports the monarchy by celebrating this weekend, they are not actually able to think for themselves and are, in fact, sheep who fall for any excuse for a party.

QuickLookBusy · 05/06/2012 21:05

You cant understand why perception?

Maybe it's as simple as they like the Queen and her family.

They like the traditions, pomp and ceromony associated with it all.

They like the fact it's a chance to wave the union jack, which has recently been hijacked by the bnp.

T,hey like the fact it's a community thing which brings people together.

They like the fact everyone enjoyed themselves, people had fun and they got a few days off work.

perceptionreality · 05/06/2012 21:07

Well I think I'll be forgiven for thinking that people are sheep if they can't even explain what they are celebrating!

perceptionreality · 05/06/2012 21:08

QuickLookBusy - how can you 'like' someone you don't know?

QuickLookBusy · 05/06/2012 21:16

There's a huge amount of information about her in the public domain. I know a lot about her and can make a judgment about whether I like her or not, based on that info.

Doobydoo · 05/06/2012 21:18

Grin to quick. What a bonkers thing to say

perceptionreality · 05/06/2012 21:21

How do you know that information is reliable?

Even if the Queen is a likeable person, can you explain the reasoning behind parties that would suggest she is a demi-God?

MarySA · 05/06/2012 21:22

I do not agree with the royal hereditary system/ Love for one's country is not the same and should not be confused with love for this royal family. They are two separate things. Why should we love and respect the family Windsor.

BIWItheBold · 05/06/2012 21:25

Thank fuck it's over, that's all I can say. We can get some decent telly and actually have some news on our news channels.

I can't bear the way we all have to 'worship' a family who are supposedly our superior. Why are they our superior? They are no different from me, you or the boy next door.

The whole thing is absolutely absurd.

QuickLookBusy · 05/06/2012 21:25

Why is it

QuickLookBusy · 05/06/2012 21:26

Sorry that should be

Why is it bonkers Doo?

Doobydoo · 05/06/2012 21:27

Ah now I am sure if you read your post you will be able to see why.It made me Grin

Hullygully · 05/06/2012 21:33

I had no idea this thread was still going...Mostly I wonder what all my deletions were for, particularly the factual stuff. I wonder why history has to be deleted now?

I'm dyslexic dooby, so if it's spelling or grammar I don't have an effing clue.

exoticfruits · 05/06/2012 21:44

I really don't know why you need to understand it. I don't understand why people like watching football. They do. I accept that it is popular, I don't patronisingly say that they are just swept along or it is the 'emperor' new clothes' - I assume that they have reasons that I don't understand. I don't feel the need to understand it.

perceptionreality · 05/06/2012 21:46

QLB - I am sure nobody would be unkind enough to laugh at your dyslexia.

But when you think about it it's kind of ridiculous to decide you like someone based upon media reports which are in any case contrived.

perceptionreality · 05/06/2012 21:49

Football is a sport, exotic fruits. At least there is some kind of talent involved in the selection process for the teams. Even though I am appalled at some of the recent issues thrown up by those who think that footballers are somehow above the law, it can't really be compared with adoration of the royal family, for....what?

QuickLookBusy · 05/06/2012 21:51

I said information in the public domain. Not media reports.

I also would think it very strange that people don't make judgements based on people we see on tv/ read about/learn about in school.

perceptionreality · 05/06/2012 21:53

Making judgements about someone is different from deciding to worship someone based upon the fact that they were born into wealth and privilege.

QuickLookBusy · 05/06/2012 22:00

I doubt very much they decide to like someone because they were born into wealth and privilege.

Have you heard some of these royalist talking about Andrew, Edward or Camilla?

They do make individual judgements. They actually like the queen based on what they know about her.
