Or "marking my place" - particularly distasteful on a relationship thread

YNBU

DPrince · 07/05/2012 09:53

I have no idea what you mean. Can you explain? Its a genuine question, not being arsey. I really don't know what you mean.

MrsLettuce · 07/05/2012 09:54

YANBU about "marking my place", hate that. I feel it's really rather rude. We have bookmarking and I'm Watching for that.

'done' is ok IMO - just a way of saying 'have completed the survey as requested by MNHQ and am bumping' or the like.

Psammead · 07/05/2012 09:54

Marking my place has its uses, but agree it is distasteful at times.

What is 'done' supposed to indicate? I have never seen that.

Like... 'this topic has been done to death'? Or 'I have said what I want and now I am done and do not intend to read any of your replies'?

lumbago · 07/05/2012 09:55

If it a competition you don't want to bloody bump it surely ?!
If you do a survey. Why post done ?

What does it matter to you if people mark place or type done? Are we suddenly being charged by the letter? The post? The thread?

No?

Then find something real to worry about.

Like people who start threads about 1,000s of threads. Those are the real bad guys of MN.

Oh...wait...

Blush I thought you had to type done on a survey so it registered with MN or something. I'll still do it because I don't want to miss a chance of winning Grin I just followed what others did. If it bothers you, don't click on survey threads.

I agree about 'marking place' on other threads, though Smile

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 07/05/2012 10:00

I must be a wanker then. Hmm

I always put done if a poster has asked me to sign a petition, usually on the SN board. It seems only polite to me and bumps the thread for others. No idea why that's wanky?

MrsLettuce · 07/05/2012 10:01

Oh no, we don't want people starting threads on MN Shock. That really is beyond the pale, it's not a public forum after all. Is it? Oh. Hmm

So, if it's a worthy petition?

squeakytoy · 07/05/2012 10:04

"marking my place" aways makes me think of some rubbernecker who has nothing useful to add to the thread.... why not just use the "bookmark" facility.

lumbago · 07/05/2012 10:04
