DP been ill with very high fever for 5 days, vomitting, headache, lerthargic and achey. Has come out in a rash, not raised, have done tumbler test. His temp is up again, rash is red all over his body and from googling looks a little like a german measles rash, his jabs are all up to date. What do I do?????

OOH needed or wait and see how he is in morning.

Apologies for posting here, need quick response

Phone NHS direct - they're usually pretty helpful.

drinkyourmilk · 06/05/2012 21:16

OOH
a long lasting fever should be seen to.

sandylion · 06/05/2012 21:16

GP out of hours at your hospital? Phone NHS 24 to arrange an appointment!

4lovelychildren · 06/05/2012 21:16

I'd take him to a and e to be safe.......

happyoverhere · 06/05/2012 21:16

Phone GP and discuss with OOH GP service at the least

Bumblefeck · 06/05/2012 21:17

Phone NHS 24

If they think DP needs to be seen they can book it so you won't have to wait around to be seen

doormat · 06/05/2012 21:17

take him to out of hours to get checked over...just to be on safe side x

LadySybilDeChocolate · 06/05/2012 21:17

OOH if he's lethargic and vomiting. The rash may just be a reaction to the temp but you should get him checked over to ensure he's not dehydrated if nothing else. I hope all is OK.

HecateTrivia · 06/05/2012 21:18

phone OOH or NHS direct and ask them.

He really needs to see someone at some point, if not today then tomorrow perhaps, if he has been vomiting for 5 days.

Is he keeping water down?

mosschops30 · 06/05/2012 21:18

Are you alternating paracetamol/ibuprofen.
How high is temp?

NaughtyElephantsSquirtWater · 06/05/2012 21:23

Have just ring OOH and they are going to get back to me.
He has kept a little food down today but nothing in the 4 days prior.
Has also had some pain in left testicle - could this be relevant??

Ahh Im all panicky!!

Is he keeping water down? I hope they call back soon

manicbmc · 06/05/2012 21:26

Pain in testes would probably be swollen glands probably.

QOD · 06/05/2012 21:26

How old is he? Is this DP or DS?

Chundle · 06/05/2012 21:28

I'd take him in to be honest. Never be too careful with those symptoms.

Noqontrol · 06/05/2012 21:30

Have you done that Nhs direct thing online where you tick yes or no and they then advise you to either sit tight, go to a and e or call an ambulance? I did this with my ds last week and ended up having to call him an ambulance. The online thing might be a bit quicker than waiting for someone to call back.

youarekidding · 06/05/2012 21:30

I know genital pain can be a symptom/ complication of one of the 3 MMR illnesses. I would call OOH or take him to walk in centre.

My friends DD recently had scartlina and was like this for 10 before they stopped saying 'viral' - it took her being blue lighted to hospital with pneumonia for someone to deal with it.

So insist on tests. insist on an appointment.

youarekidding · 06/05/2012 21:31

noq Sad hows your ds now?

NaughtyElephantsSquirtWater · 06/05/2012 21:31

QOD its DP - he's 21.
Keeping very small amounts of fluid down. Have just checked his glands in throat and they are raised.

Have made him strip off to keep temp down!!
Not much else I can do is there?

OOH are very busy, she said they would call back within next few hours
If he gets worse I am to call back.

Thanks everyone Smile

Assuming that he is dp - yes pain in testicle is relevant and you need to get him checked pronto.

QOD · 06/05/2012 21:32

A&e for sure, the testicle bit needs checking

Mama1980 · 06/05/2012 21:34

Tbh vomiting and only small amounts of fluid for days combined with pain=I would probably go to a and e. NHS direct have a website with guidance.

my2centsis · 06/05/2012 21:34

Let us no how it goes op :)

McPhee · 06/05/2012 21:36

Personally if this was my DP I wouldn't wait, not if this has been going on for 4 days. Can you get him to a walk in centre or A &E?

Noqontrol · 06/05/2012 21:36

Oh he's absolutely fine youarekidding. He had a nasty case of croup and was really wheezing. I'm asthmatic and was worried he might be too, he's only 2. But all was ok in the end. The next day he was smiling and laughing, well on the way to recovery.
