This morning, my son - the 15 year old

........ who cannot get out of bed.
........who misses two school buses a week because he gets out of bed at 0750 (bus leaves at 0800).
........who sits on the sofa and stuffs food wrappers down the side rather than walk across the room to the bin.
.........who goes to put something in the dishwasher, but when he sees it is full of clean stuff having just finished its cycle, stacks plates and cups up on the worktop waiting for someone else to empty it.
.........who puts clean clothes in the laundry basket rather than fold them up and put them away.

was downstairs in the kitchen today, dressed in school uniform, at 0730, emptying the dishwasher with a cup of tea made for me on the table.....
ConfusedShockConfusedShockConfusedShockConfusedShock

Is he on drugs?

Is there a major unreasonable request coming up, requiring girding of the loins......

Help!

OP please put meus out of our misery, what has he done??

Rhinosaurus · 01/05/2012 18:38

Sorry everyone, I've only just got home, eked out the haircut/friend visit as long as possible.

Just said to him "you're being good, emptying the dishwasher without asking" and he said that he was trying to help more. Then I said is that why you hoovered your room, and he said he wanted to start to show respect to us and our home! WTF!? Wheres my teen????!!!

He then went on to say he was going to go up to a local business later to ask for a Saturday job.

Much as I'd love to feel overjoyed by this new teenage boy that aliens left, I am cynical now even more worried.

He must have read something or been told something at school perhaps?

stealthsquiggle · 01/05/2012 18:41

Festival. Or holiday. He wants you to match what he earns.

Chilenachica · 01/05/2012 18:42

He'll need the salary to pay for nappies, baby clothes, cot etc. plus he wants the GF and infant to show respect for the home too, so is leading by example. You should be proud

Rhinosaurus · 01/05/2012 18:44

God knows, it can't be the end of Kevin surely? I expected a tapering off not an abrupt end!

I think it's a waiting game as there's bound to be some ulterior motive or request in the offing.

Don't want to ask him too much as its like he's getting a hard time for behaving well!

noddyholder · 01/05/2012 18:45

He is up to something

Northernlurker · 01/05/2012 18:47

I think he must have found religion! Grin

Rhinosaurus · 01/05/2012 18:48

It'll come out eventually..... We have four othany teens so any school scandal we get to hear about pretty quick usually from the girl who can't wait to drop him in it hopefully the same would go for pregnancy would be around the school like wildfire!

Festival I reckon

boredandrestless · 01/05/2012 18:49

Shock Sounds scary!

I'm going to guess either

  • a baby on the way
or
  • wants to go to a festival
UptoapointLordCopper · 01/05/2012 18:49

Shall I go and look in my two hundred parenting books to see if there is a chapter on how to cope with sudden good behaviour? Grin

Hopefullyrecovering · 01/05/2012 18:53

He's sold your house. For sure. Sorry and all that.

QuickLookBusy · 01/05/2012 19:00

I reacon he really likes a girl and he is about to invite her round for the night hence the hoovering and tidying.

But whatever the reason I would just enjoy it while it lasts

QuickLookBusy · 01/05/2012 19:02

reckon

TheCrackFox · 01/05/2012 19:03

He needs money (hence the job thing) so my money is on a festival.

McHappyPants2012 · 01/05/2012 19:04

Awwww what a sweet heart.

Bless him!

When my 11 year old does something helpful it does unnerve me!

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 01/05/2012 19:16

First guess is pregnant girlfriend and he wants to show how grown up he is and ready for responsibility.

Second guess is he wants to go on holiday with a friend/s and is earning money to contribute and again showing how responsible he is before he asks.

shockers · 01/05/2012 19:24

You're part of an experiment. He and his teenage friends have a book running on how long it will take until a parent is so unnerved that they beg their teen to change back Grin.

Sparklingbrook · 01/05/2012 19:35

Oooh yes shockers and it's all being filmed with hidden cameras. Grin It could be a BBC3 documentary. Shock

shockers · 01/05/2012 19:39

Quick Rhinosaurus... get some lippy on (and hide that wine bottle Grin)

northernmonkey · 01/05/2012 19:49

I'm sorry but I would still be scared!!
It has to be a secret tv show....no teen is ever that good for nothing surely??????

takeonboard · 01/05/2012 19:53

Jeez Rhino, I think he has emerged from teenagerdom and is.......a lovely young man!

Its a shock and difficult for you to take it in all at once, sit down, have a Wine and give yourself a huge pat on the back, your job is done! Grin
