This morning, my son - the 15 year old

........ who cannot get out of bed.
........who misses two school buses a week because he gets out of bed at 0750 (bus leaves at 0800).
........who sits on the sofa and stuffs food wrappers down the side rather than walk across the room to the bin.
.........who goes to put something in the dishwasher, but when he sees it is full of clean stuff having just finished its cycle, stacks plates and cups up on the worktop waiting for someone else to empty it.
.........who puts clean clothes in the laundry basket rather than fold them up and put them away.

was downstairs in the kitchen today, dressed in school uniform, at 0730, emptying the dishwasher with a cup of tea made for me on the table.....
ConfusedShockConfusedShockConfusedShockConfusedShock

Is he on drugs?

Is there a major unreasonable request coming up, requiring girding of the loins......

Help!

What a lovely lad your ds is, Rhino!

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2012 19:15

Not exciting perhaps, but a lovely story and your DS is fab.

Annunziata · 03/05/2012 19:16

I feel quite ashamed of all the jokes now, what a terrible story :(

You've got a great boy there though.

WomanOfMassDestruction · 03/05/2012 19:16

Oh, poor lad Sad

And how lovely of your Kevin to try to help him in the best way he thought he could. Although "should" have told you but being a teenager, etc.

discophile · 03/05/2012 19:16

Well, your Kevin sounds lovely for looking after his friend who is having a shit, shit, shit time.

sugarice · 03/05/2012 19:16

What a sad story and poor Dave but what a fab Son you have Rhino, a true friend Smile

GrossePopel · 03/05/2012 19:16

I've been lurking Rhino, your DS was trying to help his friend. Sad
Poor Dave, in a tent, in this weather. Sad

WomanOfMassDestruction · 03/05/2012 19:16

I meant that in a lighthearted way, obv.

Zara1984 · 03/05/2012 19:17

rhino your boy is a gem. You're got one pregnant fatty wiping tears away here. I hope my son is as good to his friends when they need help!!!

Poor Dave Sad

Rhinosaurus · 03/05/2012 19:17

Might have been better if he had came to me and told me what was going on, so that the poor kid wouldn't have spent three days sleeping in a tent and walking aimlessly around fields all day.

have been lurking - you must feel so proud of your son!

Rhinosaurus · 03/05/2012 19:18

It wasn't just my Kevin, there are about five of them in a friendship group, and they were doing shifts I think.

Sad for dave. poor poor lad. so glad he is being looked after now and what an amazing lad you have.

i'm really glad it wasn't something awful that your ds was building up to tell you (but also sad for dave)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/05/2012 19:19

Oops - pressed enter too soon. Poor Dave, being in such a shit family situation. I hope your lad will be able to stay in touch with his friend - he's going to need good friends and your lad sounds like the best of friends. You must be proud of him. Smile

hattymattie · 03/05/2012 19:19

Wow - poor Dave. You've raised a very decent boy there Rhino and if there is one positive outcome it's that your DS now appreciates what he's got. I hope it comes right for his friend.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2012 19:20

So no grandchild then? Sad

browneyesblue · 03/05/2012 19:20

Aww - he tried to look after his friend as best as he could. It would have been better if he'd told you, of course, but he sounds very caring.

GrossePopel · 03/05/2012 19:20

Aaawww bless them, they should have told someone. Sad... Teenagers! Sad

missnevermind · 03/05/2012 19:21

Your son is lovely.

IAmBooyhoo · 03/05/2012 19:21

i bet those boys are friends forever because they have all done an amazing thing and sound like a great bunch who will always look out for each other. i hope dave can still see them all regularly and isn't isolated from his truly awesome mates.

AKMD · 03/05/2012 19:23

Aww, your son sounds like a very decent boy at heart.

Terrible situation for Dave though; I hope his mum is ok.

BassaiDai · 03/05/2012 19:23

Aw Rhino, what a lovely heartwarming ending to all the suspense and worry!

Yes I can understand why you think Kevin should have told you about Dave's situation, but I'll bet any money that he offered to, but was sworn to secrecy by Dave. And if so, I have to admire him for sticking to his word.

Aw, what a lovely young man! For now anyway Smile

Rhinosaurus · 03/05/2012 19:25

Anyway, I need wine (third night running)!

I got home from work, and rushed to come on here and update to save you all putting on loads of weight with all the biscuits and cakes, and then I typed that lot in and submitted and the bloody MNet offline thing came up which does when they go to the pub, and I had to do the whole bloody lot again!

What with all that and a day full of bedwetting children to see, I would prefer pub, but a glass of wine will have to suffice.

I do feel sorry for Dave, because he is not in care as in a nice foster home but a residential placement, and is highly unlikely to go into foster care at his age. Unfortunately his mum sounds as bad as his dad, so even if she left his dad it would not really be an option for him to go home.
