The grand national is cruel to horses

Alot of the horses will be injured and whipped into going faster, it's also a long race course.

I can't believe people would bet on this event

Oh for crying out loud Hmm

catgirl1976 · 14/04/2012 17:17

Line - Its because I don't agree that racing is inherently cruel. Apparantly that means I don't get to be upset when horses are injured

LineRunner · 14/04/2012 17:17

It is weird, Clare Balding said that photographer man who caught Synchronised would be part of Grand National history. And now he is.

PurpleRomanesco · 14/04/2012 17:17

Yes? Do you have something to say?

catgirl said up thread that she thought the national was overcrowded. Why pick on her?

Oblomov · 14/04/2012 17:17

I only just seen the bit about the 2 horses dead. Obviously that is not good. So, Flighty can get back on her box now. It was a very exciting race to watch. Photo finish. It was good.

Yes, thanks Mr Photographer, bet you feel great now......

ChaoticAngel · 14/04/2012 17:18

RIP Synchronised and According to Pete Sad

catgirl1976
Do you want my fucking CV????
Pardon my mistake...I FAILED to mention a year in Ireland working on a stud. So sorry

catgirl1976 · 14/04/2012 17:19

I would feel awful if I was that cameraman :(

theinets · 14/04/2012 17:19

Animals were put on this planet to serve us. The odd horse dying is sad but is a price worth paying for the entertainment provided to millions; they are only animals and have had good lives and given millions pleasure.

ChaoticAngel · 14/04/2012 17:19

I saw the race, I was at my mum's and they had it on. There were a lot of fallers this year.

Sparklingbrook · 14/04/2012 17:20

Oh great they are showing it on the news now....

GrannyS · 14/04/2012 17:21

theinets, are you saying that just to wind people up?????

Sparklingbrook · 14/04/2012 17:21

How can the owners of the horse that won celebrate knowing that 2 other owners have seen their horses destroyed?

Chubfuddler · 14/04/2012 17:21

Sparkling synchronised was on his way to do himself a n injury when he took off. It's hardly the photographers fault.

I agree he should have been pulled - I said to Dh when he fell that he would have been in any other race but the pressure of the national is so great he couldn't be. And he was checked over and declared fit.

LineRunner · 14/04/2012 17:22

Could we please ignore the clear distracting lunacy of some posts just arriving here?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 14/04/2012 17:22

Yes theinets, they should bring back cock fighting too, and perhaps a nice bit of bear baiting. Get those animals entertaining us.

Great!

Chubfuddler · 14/04/2012 17:22

Are you referring to me?

Sparklingbrook · 14/04/2012 17:23

I know, it's not the photographers fault I'm just upset Chub.

catgirl1976 · 14/04/2012 17:23

No I dont want your CV.

I asked (in a very polite manner) what you had done within the racing industry as you didn't sound like you had been a rider or trainer. I said in that post I could be very wrong.

You are the one swearing and being rude to people.

I am entitled to my view that whilst there is cruelty in racing, racing is not inherently cruel and where cruelty does exist I would support anything that removes it. I also do not think the GN is cruel, but I do think it is over crowded and should be cut to 15 / 20 runners. I also think horses enjoy competing. Mine do.

Thats my view. I don't expect you to agree with it, but your attitude and posts are rather uncalled for.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 14/04/2012 17:23

Entertainment is not worth anyone or any animal dying for now if ur here for a wind up piss off ur not welcome!! And don't ever ever own a pet!!!

LineRunner · 14/04/2012 17:24

Chub, no I'm not referring to you. Your post was really interesting.

IAmSherlocked · 14/04/2012 17:24

Agree that it's not the photographer's fault - someone would have caught Synchronised after all; he couldn't just have been left to run loose.

Flightty · 14/04/2012 17:24

Ok Oblomov, there was no need for that. Obviously I had assumed you'd been following the thread and seen what had happened when you posted.

Clearly though you're still of an opinion that it was all worthwhile, and I still fail to understand your attitude.

I'm actually horrified.
