I've never given the pizza delivery people a tip

Am I supposed to? The one that just came kind of looked at me for a second expecting something, and it hit me...am I supposed to be giving them money? I pay online btw, so thought tips wouldn't be expected.

Have I been U? I feel quite embarrassed.

I never do.

Sootie · 24/03/2012 18:39

Oh good!!

Yes - min wage - but its only ever a £1. Just think if they are on 30 deliveries a night, tax free, they can afford to send it all back to educate the rest of the village.

I feel the same way about the Chinese takeaway people and the Indian takway delivery peopel

disclaimer< this post is very tongue in cheek.

DilysPrice · 24/03/2012 18:39

I do (or rather DH does, because he can do these things with blokey aplomb whereas I'm always embarrassed and furtive about tipping).

TotemPole · 24/03/2012 18:39

Yes, I would give them a few quid cash. The tips are how they make a decent wage from it.

WorraLiberty · 24/03/2012 18:40

I always tip them £1

MrFunnytheEasterBunny · 24/03/2012 18:41

I don't but my DH does. Not sure of the etiquette really!

TotemPole · 24/03/2012 18:41

I do around 10% of the bill.

nightowlmostly · 24/03/2012 18:42

I give a couple of pounds usually, I figure they'll remember and make sure to come to me first when they have a few to go to. Nice and hot food still!

Sootie · 24/03/2012 18:43

Omg...I feel like a horrible cheapskate now! Luckily I've never had the same person deliver twice - they seem to have a high staff turnover...

I tell them to keep the change - but it is more awkward if the bill was settled online. I view it as 'spreading the love' - since takeaways are reserved for celebration or wallowing.

mousymouseafraidofdogs · 24/03/2012 18:46

never, the already turn on their heel before returning to the bike.

overthehillmum · 24/03/2012 18:47

Two pounds here and the guy is totally and always embarrassingly grateful. It's saving me petrol and time.

TheProvincialLady · 24/03/2012 18:49

I wouldn't think of doing anything so patronising. I don't tip the postman either, or a courier who delivers something to my house.

Safmellow · 24/03/2012 18:51

I would, there are certain people you want to keep on the right side of. Hairdressers, taxi drivers, and anyone who is in charge of food you are going to put in your mouth :)

crochetfish · 24/03/2012 18:51

Not if we ordered and paid online which we pretty much always do... am feeling a bit bad now!

Hullygully · 24/03/2012 18:52

yes of course you are

FondleWithCare · 24/03/2012 18:56

I give around £1.50ish, I feel embarrassed if I don't have any change in my purse and always pay online too.

Sootie · 24/03/2012 18:58

I am so embarrassed...do you think they all talk about me at the shop calling me stingy?!!

They do reap a benefit from the jobs. They are often 'learning' to ride their bikes. When I learned, I passed the elementary test to allow me onto the road by myself but then had to get a good few miles under my belt before I took the 'driving' test. That's what the pizza delivery people are doing - getting the miles under their belts.

Mrsjay · 24/03/2012 18:59

oh sorry after my rant i forgot to say i usually tip a pound ,
