I've just had a very bizarre conversation and I'm sure I'm right and she's wrong but need a third party judge!

If you are at a friend's house and they offer tea/coffee etc, would you've offended if they asked for a cold drink instead?

She said she gets highly offended when anyone (me) does this to her as it means you don't want to stay long as cold drinks can be drunk quicker!!

I was a bit Shock and laughed which made things worse she didn't appreciate.

I don't like hot drinks do always ask for cold, am I accident offending everyone by subliminally saying 'I don't want to stay long?' Confused

Nah she's being a banana...mind you I probably wouldn't want to hang around too long if she's as daft as that!

topshelfrita · 24/03/2012 11:33

YANBU I wouldn't mind in the least. Certainly would not think they wanted to drink up so that they can go more quickly. gone.

thatboysmum · 24/03/2012 11:34

Ha ha, that's ridiculous! What happens if you decline a drink?!

topshelfrita · 24/03/2012 11:34

ignore gone.

TubbyDuffs · 24/03/2012 11:34

Not everyone drinks tea or coffee; definitely wouldn't be offended. Do you gulp your cold drink down and leg it normally?

eosmum · 24/03/2012 11:35

How ridiculous, I don't drink hot drinks either, and friends find it difficult to get me to leave Grin would she be more offended if you said you'd have nothing?

PurplePidjin · 24/03/2012 11:35

Nope, as an adult you are expressing a preference.

If my guest wants to drink water, water they shall drink Confused

IAmYourSingingTelegram · 24/03/2012 11:36

Not at all. Your friend is decidedly odd.

ilooklikegrotbagstoday · 24/03/2012 11:37

I don't drink hot drinks either. I glad you brought this to my attention, i had no idea it was so offensive to not like tea or coffee. Wink

Yanbu, your friend has some self esteem issues if she is worried that her friends just want to leave asap

catgirl1976 · 24/03/2012 11:39

Your friend is a fruit loop. And a shockingly bad host

WorraLiberty · 24/03/2012 11:41

Ask for a paper cup and tell her you want to take it with you Grin

nickelhasababy · 24/03/2012 11:45

complete banana! Shock

so she forces her guests to drink something they don't like?!
Confused

maybe you should ask if you can stay for dinner?

Ineedacleaneriamalazyslattern · 24/03/2012 11:47

She is easily offended then.
I do drink hot drinks but some days I'm just all tea'd out or just thirsty and ask for a cold drink.

ivykaty44 · 24/03/2012 11:47

her hostess mode need re tuning to include a wider variety of drinks on offer when visitors appear

extremepie · 24/03/2012 11:48

It would never occur to me either, I think is a bit weird and possibly paranoid to assume that guests don't want to stay long just because they don't want a hot drink!

I don't drink tea or coffee (don't like the taste and the caffeine does weird things to me!) so the only hot drinks I do drink are hot chocolate and herbal tea and I only drink those if it is cold outside.

9/10 I would prefer a cold drink, just because I like them more!

Some people are strange....

SydSaid · 24/03/2012 11:53

If I have more than two cups of tea then I feel funny (woozy, nauseus), and I don't drink coffee.

Yours friend is very easily offended.

PMSL, I don't drink hot drinks because I don't like them, and I'd tell her that.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 24/03/2012 12:01

Your friend clearly issues and needs to improve her self confidence.

It is not rude to prefer or request a cold drink instead.

PickleSarnie · 24/03/2012 12:04

Not rude at all. For starters, what if her coffee is, shudder , instant?!

Thumbwitch · 24/03/2012 12:04

Your friend is odd.
I almost never drink tea or coffee and will often ask for a cold drink or just water when at a friend's house - it's never caused offence, to my knowledge.

Her reasoning is barking - it's your choice what you drink and she's got no business imposing her odd views on anyone else.

BerryCheesecake · 24/03/2012 12:05

I and glad people don't think it's rude, I was beginning to think it was from her reaction. She doesn't force me to have hot, she lets me have cold but I now how she feels every time I request a cold drink! Blush

Love the paper cup idea, maybe next time I should request my cold drink 'to go' ;)
