To not wash dds swimming stuff every week?

It's on for no longer then an hour and always comes home smelling of her shampoo so as far as I'm concerned it's had a good rinse in the shower....

Yet part of me feels it's a little wrong. Am I BU or a lazy cah?

Euwww. I am by no means a domestic goddess but there's no way I'd want to get into an unwashed swimming costume! So I wouldn't want DD to either.

diamondsonthesolesofhershoes · 06/03/2012 17:06

Washing swimming costumes regularly can damage the elastic anyway. I swim 4 times a week and handwash my cozzie probably about once a week or so or when it starts to smell overly chlorine-y.As long as you make sure you rinse it thoroughly to get the chlorine out I should think it's ok :)
Of course, I could just be a slattern!

diamondsonthesolesofhershoes · 06/03/2012 17:07

Uh oh, looks like I'm a slattern! :o

chocolatebiscuits · 06/03/2012 17:08

My DD's doesn't get washed each week. Only on the weeks when I forget about it for three days and then find I have a very smelly wet towel and costume Blush

lemniscate · 06/03/2012 17:09

DH and DS go swimming once a week. DH never washes their swim stuff after as a regular thing, just hangs it to dry. It probably goes in the wash about once a month I'd say so after 4 swims. I think that's fine as they are still washed after much less wear than a pair of underpants on for a day! If they are rinsed and aired then I don't see a problem.

fuzzpig · 06/03/2012 17:10

I do make an exception for being on holiday though - then it just gets rinse and aired :o

AllShiney · 06/03/2012 17:15

:) phew I've got a couple of you agreeing!

If it doesn't get hung up that day I do wash it.

I guess it's no different from hanging it on a balcony to dry when you're on holiday.

DS wears a neoprene suit for his lesson cos the pool is quite cold, that only gets rinsed out and spread on an airer. I wash my cossie though, mainly because it just gets gathered up with the rest of the washing.

Gumby · 06/03/2012 17:19

it can't be good for it sitting around in chlorine
it's not like you take it off and rinse it in shower while you wash your hair naked is it?

DW123 · 06/03/2012 17:20

DH used to swim 5-6 times a week. His stuff was put out to dry each time and washed once a week (ish). Washing in detergent damages the elastic. I rinse my boy's stuff and then dry. Damp towels get hung up to live another day. Wet towels go in the wash.

frankie3 · 06/03/2012 17:24

Yes I wash it each time as the costume has been worn in the swimming pool that is dirty with other children's wee etc. and the towel has been stood on the dirty floor so wouldn't want to use it again.

Voidka · 06/03/2012 17:25

I put DS's in a rinse wash. I couldnt imagine not doing it.

squeakytoy · 06/03/2012 17:26

I never wash mine.. it gets hand rinsed in the showers and then hung on the line when I get home, or on the radiator.

imnotmymum · 06/03/2012 17:27

yuck I wash each time swam in why would you not !!

pluckingupcourage · 06/03/2012 17:27

I would put it through a rinse at least - can imagine that the costume would get a bit itchy if you don't get all the chlorine (and other unmentionables) out of it for the next lesson.

Gumby · 06/03/2012 17:28

if they went swimming every day then that would be different
but once a week you'll be doing loads of washes in the interim so why not shove it in with a load?

culturemulcher · 06/03/2012 17:29

Oh god. There are people who wash costumes after every swim. Sad another one to add to my 'how I'll never be a perfect mother' list and thank heavens for that

toddlerama · 06/03/2012 17:33

I thought that you HAD to wash it every time or the chlorine would destroy it and make it see through. Did my mum make this up along with a load of other crap ? Shock

fuzzpig · 06/03/2012 17:34

To be fair I don't have to wash swimming stuff as we hardly ever go!

fatherchewylouis · 06/03/2012 17:37

As a previous poster says, towels invariably end up on the floor to be stood on so, they get washed each time.

Swim suits have a few goes before they get washed. They tend to be rinsed and hung up. We go twice a week.

I care not a jot if people think I am a slattern.

eurochick · 06/03/2012 17:39

I just used to rinse mine in the shower afterwards and then hang it out to dry when I got home.

MaureenMLove · 06/03/2012 17:40

DH swims 5 times a week. There are only 3 of us and only do about 4 loads of washing a week, so I am being being environmentally conscious, by only washing his gear once a week! Grin

Gumby · 06/03/2012 17:40

so you go back to the showers fully clothed to rinse out swim suit? don't you get wet again?!

Gumby · 06/03/2012 17:41

I can understand that maureen! It's those thst only swim once a week seems a bit odd

fatherchewylouis · 06/03/2012 17:42

Gumby, assume others (like me) use the running water in their homes...
