It's on for no longer then an hour and always comes home smelling of her shampoo so as far as I'm concerned it's had a good rinse in the shower....

Yet part of me feels it's a little wrong. Am I BU or a lazy cah?

Because someday I hope there won't be a "next wash" everlong :o

I'm trying to cut back on the washing. I have one airier and no garden so drying it all can be a nightmare to be honest.

I was expecting a bigger flaming for my first AIBU so I'm happy :)

Why is it yuck and disgusting?

Just rinse with clean water and dry.

Smurfy1 · 06/03/2012 20:01

swimsuit goes in the wash with the manky towel, that's probably been trodden in to the manky floor.

CremeEggThief · 06/03/2012 20:39

It has honestly never occurred to me not to wash DS's swimming trunks and towel after his weekly swimming lesson. His school sends P.E. kit home every week (apparently due to no storage space), but I usually only wash it every fortnight. Hmm, looks like I might have missed a trick with swimming stuff!

CroissantNeuf · 06/03/2012 20:46

I wash it every time.

Funnily enough it was only last week I that remembered how my mum never washed ours after every swim and TBH it really made me think 'eurgh yuk'. At the time I was in a dirty floored changing room with DS who managed to drag his towel across the floor all the way from the shower to cubicle.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 06/03/2012 20:46

I rinse our ds's after every swimming lesson - they only have one a week.

This is the only good housekeeping type of thread that I'm been up there with the best Wink

"This is the only good housekeeping type of thread that I'm been up there with the best "....me too Iwishiwasmoreorganised.

PlayEatSleep · 06/03/2012 20:58

Why is this dirty? I don't get it.

eurochick · 06/03/2012 21:02

Gumby I tend to get undressed in the shower at the gym, wash myself, rinse out suit, emerge wrapped in towel with rinsed cossie. No need to go back in fully clothed. Confused

TheresASpareChairOverThere · 06/03/2012 21:06

OMG to washing PE kit every other week! DS1's kit only gets returned at holidays, he only wears it for two hours per week and he is so unsporty he never gets even a spottage of mud on it.

Please can everyone stop talking about how much you wash everything, I have just got my head around cleaning my new washing machine and washing my towels at 90, and now I realise there is a whole layer of washing I didn't even know existed.

I think the reason I didn't really understand why people used to say they had loads of washing was because I am actually not doing half what clean-freaky MNers normal people do!

Rainydayagain · 06/03/2012 21:12

You should wash it as someone said they do fade, fall apart.
I always wash them, it all goes gets bunged in together, quick wash if it can go on the line, normal otherwise.

Towels on changing room floor.....my dh does that...no way that's disgusting. Never do i want to see our towels wiping a public pool floor never. ( yes we do have swim only towels)

CroissantNeuf · 06/03/2012 21:14

I can only imagine that those of you who don't wash swimming kit every time must frequent much cleaner pools and changing rooms than our local one.

Honestly, the floor is quite often disgusting (not helped of course by all the parents who ignore the 'no shoes beyond this point' signs and happily walk through the shower area and even poolside with mucky shoes on).

AllShiney · 06/03/2012 21:16

My poor DD. Her PE kit gets done in the holidays too. I wonder where all you costume washers stand on that one?

I've quizzed DD about her towel. Apparently, they leave towels in the communal changing room and return after the shower so it never gets dragged through from the showers etc. I wash the towel more often then the suit though. That pretty much gets done every week.

Tbh its easier to bung it in the machine than hand rinse it. Swim suits are mega cheap now, especially childrens suits ( and they grow so fast)
If you very concerned about an expensive cossie then hand rinsing, lying flat etc might be the way to go.
If you a stressed mother with too much to do just wash the whole bag when you get home.
Agree with above though they are manky places, we shower for about 10 mins after swim but our costumes are stripped and thrown down. yuck.

CroissantNeuf · 06/03/2012 21:26

Re: PE kits -they get washed when the DC are told by school to take them home at the end of each half-term (or it might even be at the end of the whole term?? In other words, not very often).

Slartybartfast · 06/03/2012 21:32

i always used to, put in in the machine along with the towel, until i noticed the washign instrutions. it said hand rinse, no detergent.
so that is what i do

MaureenMLove · 06/03/2012 21:47

You know, I'm not sure DD still owns a PE kit! Blush In my defence, she is in yr11 and therefore may just wear whatever she likes, but I don't honestly remember washing her kit at all this school year! I know I bought her new sports top last August though.... Grin

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 06/03/2012 21:50

Well now that I'm towards the top of the MN class in swimming things laundry, I will admit that I don't wash our ds's PE kit anywhere near as often!

School send it home after every session (once a week for ds2 who's in morning nursery and twice a week for ds2 who's in year 1). After every session I fold it up nicely and pop it back in the bag. I wash it every half term. During the winter PE is held inside and there's no where near enough space for them to actually get hot and sweaty.

bessie26 · 06/03/2012 21:56

I thought you weren't supposed to wash costumes in the machine too often.

The DDs & I swim once a week. When I get home I rinse our costumes out in cold water, then leave them in a sink full of water until I CBA it's bathtime when I wring them out & hang them up to dry.

They all get washed in the machine on 30deg at the end of term (every 6 weeks or so) if i remember

The DDs towels get washed every time though as they do end up on the floor. I am more careful with mine Grin

Backinthebox · 06/03/2012 22:00

My child caught something in the local swimming pool that resulted in my GP notifying Environmental Health and they closed the pool down for major cleaning. I've always washed our swimming kit every time since then, even though I am a scutter in many other ways! Our local pools are just filthy places.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 06/03/2012 22:05

YABU - last year a child in my class had a costume and towel that was never washed and it smelt awful.
Every week after swimming I would remind her to take it home and she would say ' my mum says I can leave my kit here'
I used to insist it went home but I am 100% sure it was left in the bag (probaby in the car) until the following week.
