Why not just go to state school?
here

OP posts:
Tranquilidade · 25/02/2012 23:33

Lots of parents who put children through independent schools make sacrifices and live at a lower standard than they would if they didn't pay fees. These parents are absolute muppets.

I heard somebody speak earlier this week about when comprehensive education came in and how they hoped schools would "level up" and all schools would have at least some of the academic plus points of the grammar schools but it seems a lot have "levelled down"

Heswall · 25/02/2012 23:53

Ah well if I wasn't wasting my money on school fees i'd be wasting my moneyu on a bigger house and driving up house prices Hmm Anyone would think it was our cash to do what we liked with eh ?

Cherriesarelovely · 26/02/2012 00:03

Well, yes it is Heswall but it is the fact that she is moaning and groaning about how hard done by she is that is really annoying people. That would be true whatever she spent her money on. e.g "I am so unfortunate, I am so hard up because I HAD to buy this very expensive car/house/designer clothes" etc. Of course people are going to say "then don't buy them or stop moaning about it!".

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/02/2012 00:11

Heswall the point is that it wasn't her cash, it was the banks and at some point the bank was going to want it back.

These are not people who were scrimping and saving to pay school fees these were people who were borrowing more and more to fund a lifestyle they couldn't afford.

M0naLisa · 26/02/2012 00:35

No sympathy at all what so ever!!!

Nothing wrong with State Schools. Specially in that area of the UK

Serenitysutton · 26/02/2012 01:00

This is the funniest thread I've read on here...

Trader vics....

Industrial cupcakes....

Poor Keith....

Huge cock....

Cherriesarelovely · 26/02/2012 01:08

Heswall · 26/02/2012 09:01

Chaz I'm responding more to the all parent who pay for private school are twats comments than the OP.

Bumpsadaisie · 26/02/2012 09:04

I Grin when I read about the verandah canopied by glorious wisteria! Poor them.

Kayano · 26/02/2012 09:15

In the second article it says

'privately educated Shona...'

Well all that private education did fuck all for her common sense so why she places such importance on it is beyond me.

I am in a horrible area and desperate to move but you do what you can to pay all the bills and have a little bit of money for your children Sad

Floggingmolly · 26/02/2012 09:40

God Heswall can there really be another one? anyone would think it was our cash to do what we liked with. It may well be yours, (let's hope it is), but it certainly wasn't hers, was it? She used her house as her own personal cash point, being too thick to realise that unless the stock was actually replenished at some point, the well would eventually, inevitably, run dry.
Living the life she aspired to without the financial backing to do so was stupidity personified, and she really cannot deserve sympathy when it all exploded in her face.

treadwarily · 26/02/2012 09:45

oh my, i had the misfortune to come into daily contact with this sibary woman several years ago. If you think she comes across as annoying in print, trust me she is 100x worse in RL. I think the most self-absorbed, attention-seeking person ever.

TheFallenMadonna · 26/02/2012 09:54

Well, the live in housekeeper is the reason for needing the extra bedroom I suppose....

FootballFriendSays · 26/02/2012 10:04

Private education and she needs to write stupid articles for the DM. Maybe better things in store for poor Monty who is only attending a state school.

Heswall · 26/02/2012 10:36

Or you could look at it as she is being paid to spout her shit, how much are you earning for a couple of hours at the keyboard ?

FootballFriendSays · 26/02/2012 10:41

Heswall - she may be paid for it but obviously not enough to make her happy. There's also the issue of having some pride in the work you do. Luckily, I do.

Heswall · 26/02/2012 10:53

Oh well good for you, I do it for the money myself Shock

fedupofnamechanging · 26/02/2012 11:03

Am not even sure where to start with this.

I feel very sorry for her son. His parents have spent all the money on his sister's school fees, so he gets no house and no private education to show for it either. I think there is going to be a lot of resentment in future years between those siblings.

I read the article about her marriage. Again, poor kids. There really isn't anything she wouldn't do for money, including sell the personal details of her relationship. Horrible, horrible article.

Have to agree that she is not as poor as she is making out. If you actually have £8k in the bank every term that can be taken as fees (plus rent money etc), then you are most definitely not skint.

Everyone knows that house prices do not rise forever.Eventually there comes a point where your house value will increase no more and repeatedly borrowing against your house, especially when you have an interest only mortgage is plain stupid. Clearly her private education didn't do her much good, if she didn't work that out. Or maybe she just considers us state educated people to be the morons if we are buying into all this shit she spouts. She is nowhere near as broke as she would have us believe.

MidnightWorry · 26/02/2012 11:07

I dont feel sorry for those who pay school fees and are fucked financially, just cut the schooling- you cant afford it.

MarthasHarbour · 26/02/2012 15:32

oooo treadwarily spill Wink

AllPastYears · 26/02/2012 15:49

I think the prize for the best Shona Sibary quote goes to:

"The Royal School, in Haslemere, where we live, is an all-girls private school...
Yes, we should have stopped and considered: ?Can we afford this??"

Says it all really! Putting your child into private school without actually totalling the costs and comparing them to your income... She is a financial idiot!

shockers · 26/02/2012 18:50

It's a good job that the parents of her school mates are probably too well heeled to admit to being DM readers, what with her plastering pictures of them doing 'We're so poor' poses around their rented home.

scottishmummy · 26/02/2012 19:24

hard to feel sorry for folk so inept
absolutely no planning,or can we do this

Spero · 26/02/2012 20:30

With so many legitimate targets offered up by this woman for ridicule why do some of you think it is sooooo funny to take the piss out of her eyes? Which I understand is result of congenital defect??

Is this the same mums net where one is not allowed to use the word 'retard' because it is offensive?

Yet it is fine and dandy to mock someone for a physical defect over which they have no control?

You hypocritical nasty fuckwits. Or is that offensive too?

OriginalJamie · 26/02/2012 20:33

Spero, I agree about the eyes

It's a shame, because most of us have stuck with all her avoidable flawas
