Brit offensive: Adelle V James Cordon

changeneeded · 22/02/2012 12:11

For those who watched the brits....AIBU to find james cordons comment about Riannah "having the painters in" far more offensive than Adelle flicking the finger.

And not a mention of thios anywhere, yet Adelles finger flicking seems to be topic of debate. Is it yet another example of the ever acceptable sexist view point going un challeneged.

I can't fucking stand James Cordon

Sorry just thought id throw that out there

StealthPenguin · 22/02/2012 12:17

So some tubby dickwad said something colloquial and marginally sexist on television. Big whoop. I've met him, and trust me if anyone has the painters in it's him. He's the fucking definition of PMS.

aldiwhore · 22/02/2012 12:18

I found neither 'offensive' but I didn't think the joke was particularly funny, just in bad taste, and a play on words considering her performance. which contained a lot of paint.

Adele's finger flicking was unseen. I watched the show and the camera cut to Blur before it was shown.

Its all a loads of bollocks frankly, this 'debate'. The real issue, the ONLY issue was that Adele was treated rudely, and it was the director's fault entirely. It wasn't Blurs fault, or James Corden's, the 'blame' for the rudeness was purely the directors.

I don't find the term 'got the painters in' sexist either. I know many women who have used this term along with 'on the sog', jam rag week' etc etc all of them are unpleasant though.

PurpleRomanesco · 22/02/2012 12:18

James Cordon is vile. I don't get the fuss about him TBH.

YANBU.

vigglewiggle · 22/02/2012 12:19

I'm not sure I agree with you. I've not seen any criticism of Adele's gesture. The debate seems to be centred around the production team's decision to cut her off. They seem to be unanimously condemning the decision to boot.

The Rhianna comment is childish humour, but the fact that there isn't "outrage" at the (childish) reference to the menstrual cycle is probably a positive thing IMO.

anewmotivatedme · 22/02/2012 12:21

I didn't find, having the painters in, offensive.

I was more astounded that One Direction won best song.

WorraLiberty · 22/02/2012 12:26

I didn't find it offensive either

I think it was just a childish joke about a woman wiggling her fanny around the stage.

GetTheeToANunnery · 22/02/2012 12:29

I didn't find it offensive in the slightest. It was just a joke cos ri ri had loads of paint in her performance Hmm
Hate James Cordern and Rihana anyway, love Adele though Grin

coraltoes · 22/02/2012 12:32

She was covered in paint. It was a mildly amusing quip. Some people seek offence in everything.

Hullygully · 22/02/2012 12:33

What is everyone talking about?

What happened to Adele?

What does having th epainters in mean??

ddubsgirl · 22/02/2012 12:35

she was cut off to make way for blur-so she stuck her middle finger up,it was aimed at the people running the brits.

as for rihanna thing, she had paint flung around durning her song,so jc made a comment about her having the painters in,another use for that saying is when you are on your period!

ddubsgirl · 22/02/2012 12:36

i do think they should have cut blur off tho, they were utter shit last night,i turned over, was painful to watch!

Hullygully · 22/02/2012 12:38

gracious

Solo · 22/02/2012 12:39

Well, we saw Adele chuck a birdie and we weren't in the audience! however, I didn't hear the painters comment because I tuned that twit out! it was just annoying to have him within my eye line...no, I don't like him either.

aldiwhore · 22/02/2012 12:39

Hully

Big hoohah about that. Fans going crazy blaming everyone but the directors... rather tedious really, but she was treated very rudely.

Rhianna did a performance in her knickers as usual (I know I know fans, its her cultural identity not her overt sexual nature - whatever), with dancing people in The Cube x4 splashing paint all over the place. Hence Jame Corden's comment regarding 'got the painters in' which means 'menstruating'.

Its all ever so important.

MackerelOfFact · 22/02/2012 12:39

I did think that was a bit of an odd comment to make, but I was more shocked at the "that's one hell of a successful tranny" comment after Adele won her first award. I know Adele herself said to Kylie that she felt like a drag queen next to her, but a) not all drag queens and transsexuals, b) not all transsexuals are drag queens, and c) how f*cking offensive to the trans community!

aldiwhore · 22/02/2012 12:40

Solo I stand corrected, it wasn't cut, I must have blinked. lol

D0oinMeCleanin · 22/02/2012 12:42

I'm with anewmotivatedme, Wand Erection winning best single was by far the most offensive thing in the whole show.

Hullygully · 22/02/2012 12:43

good for her. arses.

debka · 22/02/2012 12:44

James Corden will always be the Big Bad Mouse in our house Grin

TimothyClaypoleLover · 22/02/2012 12:45

Another one for One Direction winning best single being far more offensive!

vigglewiggle · 22/02/2012 12:46

I thought he was using "tranny" to mean transvestite.

cornsilkteamdixon · 22/02/2012 12:48

I've never liked jc since he was rude to capt Picard.

WorraLiberty · 22/02/2012 12:50

I know Adele herself said to Kylie that she felt like a drag queen next to her, but a) not all drag queens and transsexuals, b) not all transsexuals are drag queens, and c) how fcking offensive to the trans community!*

Oh dear god....

You know one day, our great grandchildren will be sat around us wide eyed and disbelieving when we tell tales of something called a 'sense of humour' that people used to have back in the day....before the professional moaners killed it off.

I don't think it's up to anyone to decide what is or isn't 'fucking offensive' to an entire community.

upahill · 22/02/2012 12:51

Yes we all rolled about at One Direction getting best single.

The ones I wanted weren't even nominated Peter Murphy's Seesaw Sway or Example's changed the way you kiss me.

DS1 wanted the Vaccines.

No mentions We were shocked and slightly saddened by this Grin
