AIBU re Take Me Out

I've been here long enough now, feel ready to start a thread in AIBU. Was going to post in Telly Addicts but thought more people would have an opinion here.

So... Take Me Out (the TV show)... I used to find it quite funny in a sad way, but watching it tonight I am squirming and finding it bordering on offensive. Not sure why but it is not very positive portrayal of women I think.

So.... Am I being unreasonable to find this show offensive? Am I taking life a bit too seriously? Or do I have a point?

If anyone's watching it's mr waxed monobrow and his arrogant attitude that the girls are lapping up that has got to me. The females just seem to be portrayed as a bit thick but 'up for it' that I don't think is very attractive.

I think you are over thinking. The nob head blokes often get binned, it's Saturday evening crap telly not QI

YANBU - this is why we are watching the cycling.

Yanbu - it's the biggest load of prime time viewing pap to have insulted our screens in a long time.

It's a meat market. I am watching it for the first time in ages because a bit depressed and in need of crap telly. But I am in danger of finding this trash even more depressing.

I agree that they all come across really badly. :(

If the females are portrayed as a bit thick...surely that's how they're portraying themselves?

YANBU turn over and watch LLL instead.

i love it - it's funny and entertaining, easy saturday night viewing. Turn it off if you don't like it, and perhaps stop taking it (and yourselves) so seriously!!

It's a bit icky but I'm not sure why. I used to LOVE Blind Date.
I'm waiting for Poirot myself.

I am watching it, don't actually know why.

Why don't they do it the other way round? Panel of men vs 1 woman.

Would still be rubbish and car-crash tv, but at least it would be balanced Grin

No more offensive than the drivel that was Blind Date.

So, yes YABU and no, YANBU - am confused now.

I do have a ver' nice glass of fizzy pink stuff though, makes me sit on the fence Grin

ps - Stephanie....what is with her voice? Oh and the Wiganer, oh my lord that voice (nothing against Wigan accents, just the tone of the voice - ouch to my ears!)

But this isn't even enjoyable.

Thanks Broom, didn't know it was on :)

OP, I only ever watch it if there's nothing else in life I have the will or the energy to do and I like to see what the girls are wearing but it is crap tv indeed.

Yes I'd like to see it the other way around too Grin

Can you just imaging the meltdown on MN if the men started talking to the women in the same way they talk to and about the men on there?

How long do we have to wait for something else to be on ITV on a saturday night? I've accepted due to the lottery and grey vote of casulty that BBC1 will be unwatchable on a Saturday night (why they can't just dump the lottery draw to BBC2, show just the draw and stop having that crap around it is beyond me, the lottery has been going since I was 15, in all that time they have never managed to make the draw show entertaining)

I don't think there's anything wrong with "over-thinking," OP.
Better that than blindly watching things without engaging brain.
It's complete crap - I cringe on behalf of everyone on it.

Thing is, even though I have never watched a single episode I feel qualified to say that it is utter pish. It just looks like offensive, lowest common denominator bollocks.

Shame on people who watch it.

Brian Grin

I'm just visualising a panel of men, slagging off the woman's clothes, body, dancing, job, shoes etc...

And then turning off their lights because her Mum says she loves her.

We could make a fortune in asthma pump sales Grin

shame on people who watch it Thank you, the shame is needed - unfortunately the remote control is on the settee and would require me moving to change channel. Damn you remote control! Wink

I want to see the version with one woman and loads of blokes too.

What woman would go on it?

What would the blokes be like?

It's like they've all been pulled out of a really really rubbish nightclub called 'Shampers' or similar.
