AIBU re Take Me Out

I've been here long enough now, feel ready to start a thread in AIBU. Was going to post in Telly Addicts but thought more people would have an opinion here.

So... Take Me Out (the TV show)... I used to find it quite funny in a sad way, but watching it tonight I am squirming and finding it bordering on offensive. Not sure why but it is not very positive portrayal of women I think.

So.... Am I being unreasonable to find this show offensive? Am I taking life a bit too seriously? Or do I have a point?

Do you really cringe though, but why? Or is that an exaggeration? I can imagine you sitting on your sofa, watching it and shuddering behind your fingers.

Oh our bosoms would be behind our ears no doubt Grin

My (male) friend reckons that the reason they don't do it the other way round is because no man would ever turn down an interested woman Grin

It would be a boring/pointless show if all the lights stayed on permanently!

I love Paddy's little phrases though...

Oh god it's awful. It's on in the background and I haven't actually watched a whole episode(it's on for AGES) but it seems completely shallow and just....shit.

The girls seem to have dolled themselves up to stand behind a post and be judged (almost) entirely on their looks. The guy gets a whole VT about himself (?), but it seems the girls still judge him based on his looks as well. I've just taken my 7 year old to bed because she started saying "he should just pick the prettiest one". (It was past bedtime anyway, not a punishment!)

At least blind date was, well, blind.

Well, if people are watching... what do we think of Ben then?

I would self-ignite in rage if I read a forum with the roles reversed.

Hypocritical, sex-starved, call me what you will.

Do the men want a girlfriend or do they want to get a bit of exposure on TV?

Depressing isn't it? I don't mind silly, light entertainment (in fact I bloody love it!) but feel feminism has been dragged back 30 years by these 'isn't it hilarious to pretend to be fucking thick and offer myself up for sex' super-tanned twats.

Skirt - sadly your cringe theory cannot be put to the test as I've had to turn over to Location Location Location. Yes, even Phil Spencer is preferable to that bunch of fake, thicko tosspots.
Honestly though, I have watched odd episodes when it first started, but really, how many times can the same format be repeated? Women acting desperately/deliberately dumb in order to "win" a date with a (usually) self-adoring man. Booooooooooorring!

He seems confident, solvent and has no problems talking to women and complimenting them.... surely he doesn't need this show to get a date? Unless there's something weird we don't yet know?

Do you watch Playing it Stright?

Hilarious - Alan Carr does the voice over .... some bird in a hacienda with a load of fit blokes and she's got to pick the straight one from the gays ..... its absolute trash TV - compulsive though

Ben - seems so right, but like you say OP, why is he on this show???

Can't be just to brag that his bessie mate is Harry from McFly?

Is it the same girls every week? Are they actresses (hoping that explains why they seem so vacant...)?

The Irish version is just as bad if not worse. Orange girls with shiny lips poured into tiny dresses.

Do the men want a girlfriend or do they want to get a bit of exposure on TV?

Well I think that works both ways because some of the girls are always on there every week.

Making sure they turn their lights out, means they'll stay on the show.

I'd do Ben, without a doubt. And if he ever fancies a 46 year old, slightly frumpy Yorkshire woman, I'm in.

I like the Kia adverts in the breaks though. Did you hear the last one, the bloke in the cardi saying to the woman in the Kia, "touch my cardi, do you know what it is.....yes.... boyfriend material" . Hilarious.

He's horrible. So smug. And, yes, why is he on here. All those girls tittering. Ugh!
