He is just on the cusp of having hollow legs. YABU.

effingwotsits · 15/02/2012 22:18

My dd was about 11 when it felt odd ordering her a child's when she really wanted what we had.

lifesalongsong · 15/02/2012 22:19

I don't think its unreasonable at all, I'd be more surprised if a child's potion was enough. I'd only expect them to last to about age 10.

Its Pizza Hut eat all you can buffets for you from now on Grin

Trills · 15/02/2012 22:19

11 yr old boys can sometimes eat more than an adult, IME

alessthandomesticgoddess · 15/02/2012 22:19

I was eating adult sized meals at 11. YABU.

FourEyesGood · 15/02/2012 22:19

Don't most cafes and restaurants say the children's meals are for under 12s? So he's probably being reasonable about wanting a full-sized meal (adolescent boys have enormous appetites!), but you could be the law and say that until he's twelve, he's having the children's meal, complete with colouring sheet and special cutlery. Grin

ENormaSnob · 15/02/2012 22:20

He is nbu.

Ds1 is 11 and always has an adult meal.

Twinklebum · 15/02/2012 22:20

My ds 8 has had grown up meals for a while, more so because he likes steak and not many places do kids steak any more. He does polish most of it off tho!

ModreB · 15/02/2012 22:20

Mine was 9yo when children's meals were too small. I am Envy that you lasted out till 11Grin

Mrsfromwales · 15/02/2012 22:21

Perhaps a little different from a girls perspective but I remember going out for meals with friends (eg pizza hut) aged 11 or 12 and eating normal adult meals.
I think a boy at this age is an adult meal sized eater.
DH says he ate adult sized portions from around aged 9!

LadySybilDeChocolate · 15/02/2012 22:23

Son can eat an adult meal now, he's 12. I just don't buy him a starter or desert as he's usually full by then.

FredFredGeorge · 15/02/2012 22:24

An active 11 year old could easily require more calories per day than an inactive adult. The base requirements (before extra activities above the norm) are almost the same with the 11 year old needing maybe 90% of the adult. If the adult sits at a desk all day and the child, rides to school, plays etc. then they'll easily overcome that difference. Yes children are smaller than adults, but they need extra calories as they are growing.

I'd've thought 11 would almost certainly be needing adult portions.

Most childrens menus are stull rubbish too.

Catsdontcare · 15/02/2012 22:29

I think he should have an adult meal if he feels he can eat that much or alternatively let him also order a side dish. In my experience children's meals are usually about the right size for a six year old at best

conspire · 15/02/2012 22:30

YABU. my small 7yo has an adults meal and eats all of it. My 6yo has a children's meal and may leave some but I wouldn't expect her to still eat them at 11 if she was hungry.

upahill · 15/02/2012 22:31

My eldest has been on adult portions since he was about 9 1/2
DS2 was about 10 1/2

workshy · 15/02/2012 22:32

AnnoyingOrange · 15/02/2012 22:32

Most kids meals are tiny. mine switched to adult meals around 9/10

lemonbonbons · 15/02/2012 22:33

No he i not BU. My son now eats Adult meals and he is 11. DD sometimes does too, and she is 9.

AnyFucker · 15/02/2012 22:34

Stop starving your child !!

tiredteddy · 15/02/2012 22:35

By DS1 age 7.5 has adult meals as children's menu portions are not large enough. Also the choice is generally poor and he eats much more varied diet than that, so the choice on the main menu is better IMO.
