DD is 10, sometimes has a chils portion under protest but normally adult and eats it all!

FlightRisk · 15/02/2012 22:45

Ah the ease of a single parent with one child. Two for 1 :o

DS has been having adult meals since he was 8. I have to say though he doesn't eat potatoes in any form so he just has more veg so probably doesn't get as full as quick as he would with a normal meal.

Goolash · 15/02/2012 22:46

Y could B U

My 10 year has been putting away many more calories than me for a long time now, I'd be massive if I ate the same as him. The only thing that's saved me from buying full on adult meals in restaurants is that he gets so distracted whilst eating out he doesn't have the time. He also naturally likes to eat smaller meals but more frequently. We get away with sharing side dishes.

My 7 year old likes to sit down for a meal and tuck in. Even though overall he eats less then my eldest at the same age, I can see that by 10 he could well be on to adult meals.

Smellslikecatspee · 15/02/2012 22:46

We have this lovely gastro pub locally that doesn't have a kids menu, just does child sized portions.

when we take DN's out [aged 8 & 10] we tend to go there we order 2 adult meals 2 child one me and OH eat the child ones.

even at 8 DN has hollow legs bless him

BellaVita · 15/02/2012 22:49

Poor kid Grin

See this is why it costs us a fortune if we ever have a takeaway... 4 adult portions. DS1 15, will eat all his and then eye up yours too!

scurryfunge · 15/02/2012 22:52

My DS didn't want a meal from the child's menu about that age. Apart from the portion size, the meals on offer were quite dull and he wanted to be seen as more grown up and sample more interesting food.

Woodlands · 15/02/2012 22:53

eeek OP I am still at the stage you mention of a meal for two with a side plate for the baby - DS is 19 months. This whole having children lark is going to get expensive, isn't it?

BellaVita · 15/02/2012 23:02

Mine have never liked the children's meals on offer either... They like Moules, fresh dressed crab, lobster.... they are their mothers sons alright Grin

Flatbread · 16/02/2012 01:11

I am an adult, and I find child size portions filling enough for me Grin

Kiddie meals are another matter and are often vile

NannyBeth · 16/02/2012 08:10

One if my previous charges ate more than I do at every meal and he was 7 when I started with them! I think its a boy thing - my charge was extremely active and very sporty, so very slim despite the huge amount of food he used to put away.

Annoying to have to pay for an adult meal? yes! but thems the breaks I'm afraid

Thetokengirl · 16/02/2012 08:16

YABU

Went to Nando's yesterday. DS1 (10) and DS2 (7.5) managed to eat more than me AND polish off dessert. In a few years, when DS3 (3) is older, we'll need to mortgage the house to go out for a mealGrin

TheCunningStunt · 16/02/2012 08:16

YABU. I am learning boys are buckets. My five year old eats endlessly. Grin will need to take a second job to support his eating habbit!!

He is a skinny boy too...don't know where it goes. Very active I guess [green]

DonInKillerHeels · 16/02/2012 08:27

DS 18 months eats off the adult menu with us. Childrens meals are shit.

EmmaBemma · 16/02/2012 08:34

Are you serious? I don't think I ever had a children's meal as a child. Half portions when I was really weeny and then adult portions from 8 onwards. Maybe portions were smaller then.

DressDownFriday · 16/02/2012 08:39

YABU.

My DD eats adult meals - she is 11. She doesn't like the choice of kids meals, which invariably consists of chicken nuggets, pizza etc. She's been having adult meals for the last year or so.

We went out last week and she had the most expensive meal out of all of us - mussels. She polished the lot off and MIL paid Grin.

TheParan0idAndr0id · 16/02/2012 09:46

My 7 year old needs an adult meal, the kids ones are so small, and he eats more than me.

I would be more worried about your food bills when they all get older Grin I honestly can not fill my lot up sometimes no matter how much I cook....I hate how they manage to stay so bloody slim when I only have to look at a cake and the pounds pile on

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/02/2012 12:19

Some kids are just very greedy! Grin

upahill · 16/02/2012 12:31

Nah!! It's just that most restaurants are skinny with their portion sizes!

mrsjay · 16/02/2012 12:38

YABU he is 11 of course he wants to eat more my dds stopped having cm before 11 , those portions are tiny and usually will feed a 5 year old , some places do lighter options though MY dds started with them and worked up to the full meal which they scoff ,

mrsjay · 16/02/2012 12:39

dressdown D2 hated kids meals usually she would have a starter and a pudding she doesnt DO chicken nuggets or anything breaded she doesnt like it ,

GrittersWifeAndProud · 16/02/2012 12:45

My DP is the exception to this rule. When we last went to ikea DP had a childrens sausage, chips and beans and he couldn't finish it all Shock He's 22 and has a 28" waist.

CardyMow · 16/02/2012 13:21

My 9yo has an adults meal when out. But he IS almost 10yo, and he is nudging 4ft11 now...Depends on the size ofyour dc, IMO. I got away with children's meals for DD until she was 11yo. I'd say that HEIGHT matters most with that - I have found that when they hit roughly 4ft10, a child's meal isn't enough to satisfy them.

PrincessWellington · 16/02/2012 13:42

Dsd has adult portions and has done since 8. She eats a child's meal and then half of mine usually!
