Agree with everyone else - 10 really is the limit you can get away with them having kids menu.

The one place dd2 will still have the dcs menu is Pizza Express where you get starter, bit of salad, pizza or pasta, pudding and a frothy milk all included (as opposed to "just a pizza" that I'd pay for if she was having adults)

I didnt start having adults meals until I was 13ish but I am very small build anyway even as an adult.

overmydeadbody · 16/02/2012 13:52

DS is 8 and usually has the adult meals.

Last week we went ot Pizza express where he always orders from the normal menu, we took his friend who is also 8 and his friend ordered from the kids menu, the pizza was tiny! Shock

It was enough for DS's friend, but would not have filled DS, who is teo feet taller than him.

I am surprised that 10 year olds can eat adult portions though in restaurants they are often really huge.

overmydeadbody · 16/02/2012 13:55

BackforGood even with the four courses you get on the kids menu at Pizza Express my DS would not have been satisfied. He would rather have one proper pizza than all those extras and a tiny pizza. But he is very tall, very active, and always eats a lot.

DP, on the other hand, would rather a kid's portion, he eats little and often and cannot eat as much as DS in one sitting.

BackforGood · 16/02/2012 13:57

No, I don't think ds would have been satisfied at 10, but dd2 is skinnier and eats less than he ever did. She likes the fact she can have a pudding and a "cappoucino" while ds is twiddling his thumbs, waiting to leave Grin

Twas happy day when my stepbrother outgrew kiddy meals and wanted grown up gammon - I love kids meals which restaurants don't like to give to adults - switchahoy!

All you can eat Chinese buffet is fantastic value with three teenagers. Mine can eat their own body weight in duck and pancakes.

bbcessex · 16/02/2012 15:24

My 7 yr old DD eats from the adult menu.. Ds did since about 8.. With DD its for the variety.. With DS it was originally for portion size.
Both eat adult food, adult menu, so eating out is an expensive exercise Angry !!!

I wouldn't feed mine the rubbish they put on children's menus at any age.

Ask for a half portion. Or one adult meal between two children. Or a starter and a pudding.

Frontpaw · 16/02/2012 15:32

DS is 7 and will happily wolf down two children-sized portions in some places.

CelticPromise · 16/02/2012 15:48

When I first met DH's family I was surprised that his teenage nephews and nieces were still eating from the kids' menu. They also all had the kids' menu at our wedding three years later, oldest was 17! I would have kicked up a stink by the age of about 11.

bubby64 · 16/02/2012 17:13

My 2 are 11, and we started giving them adult meals from age about 10.5, as they were still hungry after a kids meal. They have hollow legs now,and eat far more than I do, a kids meal would prob satisfy me if it contained anything decent, and not the obligatory nuggetts, sausages, burgers etc.
