This is completely ok/fine by me

and

This is not on/rather disgusting/etc but not worth getting into such a massive state ie calling the police or razing the building to the ground?

Not a thread about a thread, more a general feeling from a great number of threads. So many responders seem to believe if you aren't actively frothing berserk then you just aren't on the Right Side. We just can't all get ramped up to 90 over every little thing. Or even big things.

Its very annoying.

YANBU

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 07/02/2012 09:30

YANBU.

I think people on here often wrongly assume that a poster holding one opinion must automatically hold a whole load of other opinions that they also disagree with.

TroublesomeEx · 07/02/2012 09:33

YANBU.

And if you make the mistake of playing devils advocate...

You know, just to present an possible alternative viewpoint, not pinning yourself to that viewpoint. Even if you make it very clear.

There are few subjects I feel frothing beserk at, but I do feel quite strongly that one person's experience/opinion/situation does not constitute and absolute natural law, and that just because you personally have not witnessed/experienced something does not prove categorically that it is never the case!!!

Some people are either deliberately antagonistic or just stupid.

squeakytoy · 07/02/2012 09:37

YANBU, and the response of calling someone an apologist if they do not agree with your opinion is also much too prevalent.

AnyFucker · 07/02/2012 10:07

is this another one of them threads where people come on to have a swipe at the people that have disagreed with them ?

SarahSowerberry · 07/02/2012 10:09

I think it's a thread about a thread.

ABatInBunkFive · 07/02/2012 10:09

eh what? Confused

trustissues75 · 07/02/2012 10:11

I think it's important to look at all sides of an opinion/pov/arguement. Knowledge is power. There are only a couple of things that I automatically default to my own entrenched opinion, but even then, I try to see if there are other possibilities/am always willing to listen to alternative theories or ideas.

ZZZenAgain · 07/02/2012 10:12

YANBU really loopy stuff going on atm. I know it comes and goes but it is dire right now so I am not here that much. It'll get less drastic when spring comes, for some reason it always does

TheParanoidAndroid · 07/02/2012 10:14

Nope, no swipes, and no thread. Just lots of threads, a general feeling I have. Like, if you're not going totally doolally over something you must be on the opposite side of whatever.

OP posts:
fedupofnamechanging · 07/02/2012 10:15

Maybe people tend to post on threads where they hold a strong opinion.

I dunno. I can't get worked up about this Wink

wildfig · 07/02/2012 10:16

I don't think this is a thread about a thread - it's a thread about a lot of threads. Maybe things will calm down when the New Year's Resolutions to give up coffee/chocolate/cigarettes/other calming measures wear off?

AnyFucker · 07/02/2012 10:17

OP, you may not be swiping or thread-about-a-threading, but you can bet your last quid some other people will take this golden opportunity to do just that Grin

TheParanoidAndroid · 07/02/2012 10:17

No doubt! No frothing on my thread though please

Grin

< sits back >

Blu · 07/02/2012 10:19

But you appear to be getting quite worked up about this...while others may just think it not worth getting ramped up about Confused

TheParanoidAndroid · 07/02/2012 10:23

how do I appear to be getting worked up? Can you see me, serenely drinking tea and procrastinating my work, idly musing on a thread?

No. Shuddup then.

Sits down next to Anyfucker [offers a rhubarb and custard, no sugar]

ZZZenAgain · 07/02/2012 10:23

maybe we need to tuck a genteel thread away somewhere that will attract no frothiness. Masked as something like the lace knitting thread

flywiththecrows · 07/02/2012 10:25

OP, YANBU.

It's about choosing your battles imo.

I am rather relaxed about my strong opinions :)

AnyFucker · 07/02/2012 10:27

rhubarb and custard what ?

sweet ?

pie ?

brilliant old kids tv programme ?

you not got any Hob Nobs ? I don't want any of that rhubarb shite Grin

AnyFucker · 07/02/2012 10:29
Grin
MarquiseOfMelburnia · 07/02/2012 10:31

It's called debate. Sometimes it gets heated, and as long as you don't call someone a cunt and run away because you're not 'winning', it's okay imo to stand your ground and disagree if you so wish.

AIBU will always be full of people who play nice and people who don't, no matter what their opinion is. There will always be bunfights, funny bunfights, nasty bunfights then threads that suddenly appear about said bunfights. Then the thread will die until the next bunfight and the next thread trying to analyse why said bunfight occurred. Rinse and repeat.

TheParanoidAndroid · 07/02/2012 10:34

Debate is good. But thats not my point, which was about hyperbolising reaction to a point of entrenched polarisation. Or, put more simply, being a bit of an extreme cock.

OP posts:
Blu · 07/02/2012 10:35

Oh, starting a thread about it, saying 'it's annoying', telling people to shut up....
