ok my friend is a 20 year old single parent with a baby she is or was quiet happy in her flat until the other day, we were at hers and we heard some noise so we looked out of her window and the shop underneath her that had been empty for some time was open and a couple of freezers were being taken in so i said well maybe its gonna be a frozen food shop that would be brilliant but then yesterday the sign went up above the shop omg atwells after life its a bloody funeral directors now dont get me wrong they are needed but surely not a shop below a flat in a residential area my friend is now that terrified at going to bed above dead bodies that she has begged me to let her and baby spend the night at my house but my house is already overflowing sorry but this is notnright

I agree- quiet neighbours, no burglars!

We have just moved to a house that is next door to and overlooks a cemetary. it is seriously great. Peaceful. Nice outlook. Nice place to walk in the day.

(Mind you, this whole winter when it gets misty I stand by the window looking for ghosts. :) )

Oh, and what TheCuntworm says.

I never thought I would be in a situation where I would type that last sentence.

laurenamium · 26/01/2012 20:20

OP is this a wind up?! You can't post on AIBU about dead people and not expect wind ups?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 26/01/2012 20:20

I dont say this often as I feel it is an overused phrase but if I dont I will only say something far worse,

Get a grip woman.

There are several shops I would be more horrified about:
A butchers - I am a vegetarian
A bookmakers - always getting robbed
A bank - people might want to break in my gaff and drill through the celing
A sex shop - pervs hanging about
A brothel - pervs hanging about
Conservative HQ - pervs hanging about
A modelling/comic book shop - nerds hanging about
A fish shop - smell
A branch of Abercrombie and Fitch - annoying thin people with overly complicated hairstyles tripping over each other.

Kladdkaka · 26/01/2012 20:21

Charlene please can you explain specifically what she is scared of?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 26/01/2012 20:21

Have you tried Netmums?

Rachelwalsh · 26/01/2012 20:21

This is a joke thread yes?

Pretending for a moment that this is real, yes YABU and a bit ridiculous to think this is not right. Your friend needs to grow up, what is it that she (or you) think the corpses can do to her?

Greenshadow · 26/01/2012 20:22

OP,
it sounds like you haven't been helping to calm her.

Perhaps you need to look at your own reaction first and then point out some of the (more sensible) posts that people have posted here.

nenevomito · 26/01/2012 20:22

She'll be fine, but if she sees anyone loitering outside of a night with a bunch of flowers and a hopeful look trying to get in of an evening, she may want to call the police.

redstormrising · 26/01/2012 20:22

Yes, I think it is a joke thread.

NeldaAufwader · 26/01/2012 20:23

Ooh if you're going to contact the local rag get practicing your 'angry faces' for the inevitable photo taken outside of said shop, child on hip etc etc. You might make the front page if you look shocked/frightened/livid enough. Grin

maybenow · 26/01/2012 20:23

i can't think of anything better to move into an empty shop-like property under my house... it's the quietest option.

charleneanna · 26/01/2012 20:24

my friend lived in a haunted house with her parents when she was 12 and it terrified her and left her suffering panic attacks and that is why she is so scared

Alouisee · 26/01/2012 20:24

It's not the dead ones you should be worried about op ...

CupOfBrownJoy · 26/01/2012 20:25

Good Lord, get a grip. And some full stops please.

piratecat · 26/01/2012 20:25

well i can understand her being nervous about it. it's not everyone who is fine with the thought of having dead people under their flat.

it must have been a shock.

redstormrising · 26/01/2012 20:26

could someone please laugh at my joke?

[needy]

SarahStratton · 26/01/2012 20:26

Did somebody mention Zombies? Grin

charleneanna · 26/01/2012 20:27

Fucking hell, I'd be the same as your friend!

I asked a similar question about people who don't mind living next to graveyards, and got similar answers about at least they'd be quiet neighbours.

Not bothered if anyone thinks that makes me some kind of freak.

If she's that bothered then she'll have to move because she doesn't have a say in what the shop becomes. In the meantime, has she got any family she can stop with.

nicknamenotinuse · 26/01/2012 20:27

Well done everyone on taking the piss out of a genuine fear. Supportive bunch.

Alouisee · 26/01/2012 20:27

Packs OfRs - throws spares to op.

TandB · 26/01/2012 20:28

The looting stick! I love the looting stick!

Can we have the Mumsnet getaway bus and the Oh Fuck Rucksack too?

NeldaAufwader · 26/01/2012 20:28

So bodies are going to be kept in Iceland style freezers? Just going off your op.
