ok my friend is a 20 year old single parent with a baby she is or was quiet happy in her flat until the other day, we were at hers and we heard some noise so we looked out of her window and the shop underneath her that had been empty for some time was open and a couple of freezers were being taken in so i said well maybe its gonna be a frozen food shop that would be brilliant but then yesterday the sign went up above the shop omg atwells after life its a bloody funeral directors now dont get me wrong they are needed but surely not a shop below a flat in a residential area my friend is now that terrified at going to bed above dead bodies that she has begged me to let her and baby spend the night at my house but my house is already overflowing sorry but this is notnright

The ghosts might be friendly ones anyway - Casper was alright.....

Pandemoniaa · 26/01/2012 23:58

I'm still amused at the very idea of dead people being allowed to be, er, dead, albeit temporarily, in a residential area. The fucking nerve, eh?

ShirleyO · 26/01/2012 23:59

DOUCHENOZZLE?

KatieMiddleton · 27/01/2012 00:01

Dead people being dead! How very dare they. Hangings too good for them.

Oh, hang on...

ShirleyO · 27/01/2012 00:01

Also - yeah Pandemonia - can you imagine someone you love dying and there being nowhere for them to go because everyone was OUTRAGED at a Death Parlour being near them?

I'm about to invoke a word from the 90's are you ready?

NIMBY

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 27/01/2012 00:02

Alouisee you get all the excitement! I've lived here my whole life and never seen a corpus hanging from a tree in a cemetery! and Im always on mile end road and I never see nearly headless husbands of wives in saris!! Sad

ComposHat · 27/01/2012 00:15

being allowed to be, er, dead, albeit temporarily, in a residential area. The fucking nerve, eh?

When will the dead learn, why can't they go somewhere sparsely populated to die? It's a bloody disgrace!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 27/01/2012 00:17

As far as I know, those fridges don't have handles on the inside! And they are really soundproof! Whatever happens, those deaders won't be going anywhere! Your friend is quite safe!

Wittsend13 · 27/01/2012 00:25

I doubt I'd want to live above that. I'd want to be moved asap. YANBU

Alouisee · 27/01/2012 07:20

Saggy - none of it happened where we live now! The Mile End Road I was referring to is the one in East London and the smoking hangout cemetary was in the town I was brought up in.

Vampires, zombies etc. yea funny but seriously Im a rational grown up and I cant say it wouldn't give me the eebie jeebies in the (dead of the) night if I was on my tod.
Also dont want to get too pc/lefty but we've all got different culture about the dead, to some dead is dead to others it means all sorts.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/01/2012 07:52

You have a Mosque thread charlene?
I bloody knew you were from netmums!

Seriously though, I just thought of something, how about Take a Break?
They wont be able to get you moved but they would do a lovely, tasteful story.
You and your mate can stand, looking horrified, on the landing, staring at the floor as if waiting for the undead to burst through the floor.

They could call it

Dead Love Rat Stole my Heart and Then my Flatscreen.

You would probably have to work in some sort of pregancy storyline in there (they like that at TAB) but I reckon its a goer.

GypsyMoth · 27/01/2012 07:56

Just don't decide to do any clay spinning/pottery making...... You may get a 'helper' ..... And don't play ANY righteous brothers songs!

rubycon · 27/01/2012 08:04

I live next door to a graveyard, the nearest grave is 6ft from the dining room window, its very quiet and I'll miss seeing Mr Small if I ever manage to sell this place! The ghost cat I have is far more interesting, Myrtle, she walks round the kitchen and toilet and is mostly seen in daylight.

I have more problems with the living than the dead.

Thankgodforcaffeine · 27/01/2012 08:31

I seriously cannot believe that hardly anyone picked up on the fact that op's friend grew up in a HAUNTED HOUSE! A HAUNTED HOUSE! :o :o :o

How can anyone out there still believe this thread is genuine? Seriously!

exoticfruits · 27/01/2012 08:51

It can't be genuine as planning notices for change of use would have gone up-they wouldn't suddenly move in.

Jux · 27/01/2012 09:06

I grew up in a haunted house.

I doubt that your friend would be haunted by the Dead from Downstairs, as everyone knows that they prefer to go after the people who have pissed them off. They'll be far too busy to go after your friend.

Actually, it might not be so quiet with all those ghosts going in and out all night, slamming the door, as they rush around finding their erstwhile enemies and haunting them.

Perhaps you could ask the Funeral Directors if they could ensure they only take quiet bodies?

NeldaAufwader · 27/01/2012 09:19

ILoveTiffany Grin Grin Grin at the Ghost - potter's wheel reference.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 27/01/2012 09:31

Tell her to ask for a council exchange. I'm sure there will be loads of people dying to swap with her!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 27/01/2012 09:34

Well, loads of people except me, I'd be dead against it!

Kladdkaka · 27/01/2012 09:36

On a lighter note, embalming fluid is very good for keeping flies off my great granddad used yo use it in summer.

I found this comment very disturbing until I realised it was a bit of dirt on my screen and not a comma after 'granddad'. Phew.

SmilingandWaving · 27/01/2012 09:36

Love this thread.

I really doubt the cafe will lose business, where I live there are 2 funeral homes with only one shop between them. Which happens to be a kebab shop, they do a roaring trade. There's also a sauna next to one of them, it's lovely round here.

NeldaAufwader · 27/01/2012 09:38

I bet she's mortified at the prospect.

Memoo · 27/01/2012 09:49

Funniest thread in a long time!

You are funny you bunch of piss taking twats!!
