Is my baby ready for solids?

My mum (who's had 12 kids) says we should start weaning when DS starts eating food from our plates and stops sleeping through the night. The other day, when I popped out to get some fags (ok, ok, I know but I was only gone a couple of hours), I came back and DS was sitting there and the kabab was gone from my plate. Also, it's now taking at least 4 shots of bacardi in his bottle to get him to sleep through at night these days. Now it could have been one of the staffies that ate the kabab. I'm not sure. Should I wait? What do you think? He's already 2 weeks and I'm worried if I don't start now, he'll never develop a taste for the chippie which could cause all kinds of problems later on.

Full house!

What's my prize?

I think you need to get his ears pierced first.

KatAndKit · 22/01/2012 19:58

Would you let him have a Fruit Shoot to go with his solids though? I wouldn't start with kebabs, a Greggs Sausage Roll is a much more suitable choice for infant weaning. Leave the kebab until he gets to about 2 or 3 months I'd say.

  1. are you very young?
  1. it might be a cultural thing.

BINGO!

Only u no best hun Smile

DonnaKabab · 22/01/2012 20:02

dexter, he has his eyebrow pierced and we're thinking we might get him a prince albert for his first birthday. He's too young now, obviously.
katandkit, he prefers coke to be honest but maybe a fruit shoot would be healthier. I want to do the best for him and he needs his 5 a day. You're right. I should change.

You use plates to eat food from? Why? It only makes more work for you hun because you eventually run out and have to wash them up every week or so.

DonnaKabab · 22/01/2012 20:11

Actaully, winter, you're right. I said plate but it was actually my dog's bowl. I didn't put that in my OP as I was a bit embarrassed- thought I was the only one who did that. Nice to know I'm not alone :)

Would have been better if it was a Greggs sausage roll WinkGrin

5inthebed · 22/01/2012 20:22

Boasting by stealth Hmm

Why bother with plates or the dogs bowl. Takeaways come in their own boxes ya know.Saves tha washing up as well.

And you need to switch from bacardi to taboo. Bacardi is too upper class.

MariaCallous · 22/01/2012 20:23

Kate, really?

DonnaKabab · 22/01/2012 20:26

5inthebed, our kabab shop sells them wrapped in paper that I save to wrap birthday presents etc so, yeh I do need a bowl. Taboo might be a good idea. I tried malibu but DS doesn't like it- he doesn't really like fruit juices you see. will try fruit shoot tho.

5inthebed · 22/01/2012 20:33

Taboo is made from different fruits though, helps with their 5 a day innit.

Fair dues on the paper, great recycling!

Thankgodforcaffeine · 22/01/2012 20:38

Do what I do: use the plastic bag the takeaway comes in as a bib otherwise his little football strip will get stained

DonnaKabab · 22/01/2012 20:47
