Is my baby ready for solids?

My mum (who's had 12 kids) says we should start weaning when DS starts eating food from our plates and stops sleeping through the night. The other day, when I popped out to get some fags (ok, ok, I know but I was only gone a couple of hours), I came back and DS was sitting there and the kabab was gone from my plate. Also, it's now taking at least 4 shots of bacardi in his bottle to get him to sleep through at night these days. Now it could have been one of the staffies that ate the kabab. I'm not sure. Should I wait? What do you think? He's already 2 weeks and I'm worried if I don't start now, he'll never develop a taste for the chippie which could cause all kinds of problems later on.

Did you park in a disabled space, use a disabled persons toilet and tut at the breastfeeding Mother?
Shame on you. Grin

cheekyseamonkey · 22/01/2012 21:37

New here? Have a wee think, develop a sense of humour, failing that perspective. Get some brini merlot & put your feet up.

drippyVaJjandVagBean · 22/01/2012 21:58

I know going I've been waiting for an opportunity to use it a 'friend' on facebook comments on photos of my dcs with it frequently, I always delete.

GoingForGoalWeight · 22/01/2012 22:17

Haha good i'm glad you do :) It's a cheek! How people come to that concllusion about babies/children and still class themselves as good Mother's is beyond me. I don't know.:(

CBear6 · 22/01/2012 22:32

Barcardi to get him to sleep?! FFS just do what I do, put the baybee in his bouncer in front of the telly and save the Barcardi for yourself! The colours and sounds will help him fall asleep (turn it up loud to helphim develop tough hearing skills) and if you drink the Barcardi yourself you'll sleep all night even if he doesn't. A mamma with a full night of sleep is a happy mamma!

Does your chippie do fish cakes? I find it's vital to get Omega-whatchamacallits into them and all bairns love cake don't they?

DonnaKabab · 22/01/2012 22:40

Yeh, I've started on the special brew 4 the evening. Bacardi l8r. Good tips here.
CBear6. The omega stuff is just oil u no. I give 'em baby oil after a bath so same thing really. Goes thru the skin u no.

KateSpade · 22/01/2012 22:50

Some girl came up to me in the Health Centre on Thursday, for second lot of Injections, asking me how much baby pasta i give my daughter, i said none, then she went on to say (god's honest)
Well, get doing it quick, she'll sleep right through, if you give her loads to eat before bed....

RobinSparkles · 22/01/2012 22:53

CBear6 · 22/01/2012 23:01

Oh god yeah! Rusk in his bottle is bloody brilliant becaus then you know he's getting milk AND food hun. I really can't believe you've waited this long. A friend of mine waited until six months. SIX MONTHS! That's practically child abuse if you ask me. That bairn must have been famished. Lucky for him I'd been slipping him chocolate buttons and the mushy bit from inside my sausage rolls since he was about three weeks old otherwise he probably would have starved.

I remember when my DS was six weeks old and my dad dipped his dummy in a bottle of Oasis. I went absolutely spare! I told him not to and that I wouldn't stand for it, I don't want him getting a taste for that posh stuff or else he'll not want the Kia-Ora I buy for him.

Don't forget to let the staffies lick him as much as possible and encourage him to play with their chew toys, helps build up his immune system doesn't it luv and you don't want him being a wussy boy do you, you want a big strapping hard lad.

KateSpade · 22/01/2012 23:09

God, I'm rubbish at this

Funny though..

DonnaKabab · 22/01/2012 23:13

Bubz and the dogs share toys anyway, CBear6.

Hugz. Xxxxxx

Moodykat · 22/01/2012 23:32

Auto-correct on my phone made that rather more time consuming than I'd hoped!Grin

CBear6 · 22/01/2012 23:42

See I'm lucky luv cos I've got a toddler as well as the babby. I can leave the toddler wiv the babby, it teaches him some responsibility and it teaches her that I'm not at her beck and call. To be honest I leave most ov the weaning to him, he just pokes bits of Wotsits and Kinder Egg in her mouth, it's fine because he chews them first which is like puree but more organic because it's all natural, none of that artificial stuff with the blender.

You know your babby best and you just need to think how many babies were born and raised and turned out fine all them years ago before they come out wiv all this new advice.

GoingForGoalWeight · 22/01/2012 23:48

It's bokkull innit not bottle - get it rite hun.
