to take my Christmas decorations down?

SparkySparrow · 28/12/2011 18:21

I wanted to do it yesterday, but didn't because for some reason New Years Eve doesn't feel the same without Christmas decorations.
However, we have now decided to go to a friends house NYE so my reason for keeping them up is no longer valid.
I love Christmas and have had a great one, but I'm itching to take the bloody tree down and get back to reality!
Am I a miserable bat? Grin

YANBU but also BU. I feel the same but then feel guilty as the dcs love the decorations.

My excuse is that on 3/1/12 the builders are coming round to demolish most of my kitchen/futility room/downstairs shower room as we had a major flood and the concrete floor needs to be removed and relayed. I am trying to be organised in preparation :)

valiumredhead · 28/12/2011 18:26

MIne come down NYD.

theincredibequeenofwands · 28/12/2011 18:28

Nah, took mine down yesterday.

The cats had pretty much demolished it and got sick of picking them out of the tree like far, fluffy apples.

Also like New Year to start as the 'New Year'. I think it works better as a separate thingy to Christmas!!

miserablemum · 28/12/2011 18:30

I'd love to rip mine down, and move on too. Couldn't give a toss about nye.

We're getting our kitchen ripped out next week so have been clearing up today. Have made a comprimise with dh that tree and candles can stay, but all cards and other decs have been taken down. I know a few people that have taken everything down already...one on boxing day!!!!!!!!!!!!

cocoachanneloffestivecheer · 28/12/2011 18:31

Tree came down this afternoon, but I've left some fairy lights up. PILs took DD for the afternoon so DH and I could get some DIY done without a ten month old crawling round our feet and it seemed silly not to clear the tree too. Very pleased it's another job out of the way- and I'm a real sucker for Christmas stuff usually!

Thebrighteststar · 28/12/2011 18:32

YANBU mine came down today.

startail · 28/12/2011 18:33

YANBU,
Decorations stay up till NYD. (mine stay up till twelfth night), but I'm a SAHM. I can quite understand people wanting to take them down any day they have time at the start of Jan.
Outside lights here don't go on again after 12 night, but they actually come down when DH has time and the weather on his side.

SparkySparrow · 28/12/2011 18:33

I normally take them down NYD ! I dont think ds would mind to much, and dh is a miserable git so he doesnt care. Grin
Looks like decs are coming down tomorrow!

Sorry UABU

Bignorkz · 28/12/2011 18:34

Ours are coming down tomorrow! Sick of falling over the tree!

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 28/12/2011 18:34

Mine are coming down as soon as I can be arsed. If they're still up when I go into labour then they'll stay until next Christmas and I'm not having that!

Rudolfsgottarednose · 28/12/2011 18:35

I'm quite pleased i took in a stray kitten because she has given me the excuse to take my tree down.

The house felt untidy and i get little enough time off work to not enjoy being at home.

I'v bearly had a Christmas and would be happy to not bother next year.

startail · 28/12/2011 18:37

Ought to say I have older DDs who will come down at midnight NYE and we'll do Christmas dinner style roast, without visitors so they can help cook and no one will care when it's ready and there's room on the table for name signs and candles etc.

taurean · 28/12/2011 18:42

Took ours down today, the tree was dropping needles constantly. We always put ours up early the run up to Xmas is the best bit but then once boxing day is I like to move on and clear up!

essexgirl31 · 28/12/2011 18:42

YANBU.

Mine came down today. My living room is tiny and looked a mess. Christmas toys sorted too. Phew.

tyler80 · 28/12/2011 18:43

What date did you put them up?

ginmakesitallok · 28/12/2011 18:44

DMIL took hers down today - I was Envy her house looked so TIDY!!

SparkySparrow · 28/12/2011 18:47

We put ours up on the 9th tyler80. Never any earlier because ds's birthday is on the 7th.
Toys were put away boxing day but they keep sneaking back under the flaming tree! Hmm Yet another reason!

Yabu!

All you people who get sick of Christmas and the decorations are the ones who start planning it and shopping for it in September, August, July - aren't you?

And you had your decorations up on the 1st of December? Come on, fess up!

Celebrate Christmas when it actually is Christmas and you will still be enjoying the tree and decorations until 6th January like most sane people.

notveryinventive · 28/12/2011 18:48

I would have taken mine down christmas day night if I had the energy. Did it boxing day. We see everyone on the one day and thats our celebrations over so they come down ASAP.

couldnt care less about NYE (infact Im usually in bed before 12 anyway).

I love christmas and love the excitement and magic it brings, but once its over, thats it its over for me and I want to get back to normal.

YANBU, I took mine down today, they were annoying me.

notveryinventive · 28/12/2011 18:52

baubly I never do anything regarding christmas till at least December as I believe that before then its not christmas and dont understand anyone who starts doing things in Nov. It actually is christmas on 25th Dec not 27th/28th/29th Dec or even in Jan (my DCs go back to school 3rd Jan) its over by then.

Of Course if there is still people to see, christmassy things to do then yes I may feel a little more obliged to leave them up, but for me its over for this year.

Funtimewincies · 28/12/2011 19:09

Sorry Baubley but my tree only went up on the 20th December and I'm itching to take it down. I love Christmas but Christmas has now finished and I can't be doing with it dragging on until New Year.

fuzzypeach1750 · 28/12/2011 19:13

I've just finished putting the decorations in the loft and dragging the bloody tree outside. Hate having it all about the house, it makes me itchy!
