to take my Christmas decorations down?

SparkySparrow · 28/12/2011 18:21

I wanted to do it yesterday, but didn't because for some reason New Years Eve doesn't feel the same without Christmas decorations.
However, we have now decided to go to a friends house NYE so my reason for keeping them up is no longer valid.
I love Christmas and have had a great one, but I'm itching to take the bloody tree down and get back to reality!
Am I a miserable bat? Grin

Very tempted to take the tree and everything else down tomorrow. Our tree has been awful for needle droppage this year, and there are barely any needles left, so that's the main reason. Anyway, I was out all day until after 6 p.m., and neither DH or DS could even be bothered turning the lights on. Sure sign the novelty has worn off and it's time to say 'goodbye ':-).

Shoshe · 28/12/2011 20:45

Mine went up on the 16th and came down this morning, wanted the house back to normal and tidy before it drove me mad (plus got friends coming for a Birthday Dinner tomorrow night)

Bert2e · 28/12/2011 20:57

Christmas doesn't finish until Twelfth Night (6th Jan) so mine stay up until then - but I don't put them up until the week before Christmas.

sparklytinselandthings · 28/12/2011 21:12

Ooh tricky one. On the one hand I think you're a miserable old bat because you're taking them down already Grin but on the other hand even I'm feeling they're starting to get in the way now.
Ours are coming down on New Years Day. New Year, clear start and all that! Smile

SparkySparrow · 28/12/2011 21:13

I may be a miserable bat, but I am not old! Grin

Took all mine down last night. Usually manage to leave them until NYD but the tidy itch got to me last night.

Christmas is over!

PercyFilth · 28/12/2011 21:50

I was in our local garden centre two days before Christmas and they were taking down the decorations. :o

Mind, you, I never put any up at all (scrooge)

TheFallenMadonna · 28/12/2011 21:55

There's been a shift I think. People put their decs up earlier, and take them down earlier.

It's still Christmas here. They will come down on 5 January.

Theonewiththehair · 28/12/2011 21:55

NYD for me. We have guests NYE so nice to leave them up for that but am itching to take them down.

Theonewiththehair · 28/12/2011 21:57

They went up on 18th though so not there too long

RockingBEYONDtheXmasTree · 28/12/2011 22:00

I wasnt gonna take mine down yet. But DS decided that having been an angel with the tree since it went up, TODAY he was going to empty off all the decorations. So I helped Grin

issey6cats · 28/12/2011 22:01

took my tree down yesterday cos between the cats and my grandson and his remote controlled car the tree looked like the typhoon in the wizard of oz had got at it so rather than redo it for the umpteenth time i took it down

GeriManda · 28/12/2011 22:05

What's this 'tidy itch' you're all talking about? You're all nuts.

ShellyBoobs · 28/12/2011 22:05

Ours will come down in a dew of days, I think.

I'm with the school of thought that says the tree and decorations don't go up until a week or so before Christmas, so I'm not too quick to take them down.

Are the 'early-take-downers' the people who put their decorations up at the very beginning of December?

DashingRedhead · 28/12/2011 22:06

Mine went up on 18th which was mahoosively early for me (used to be a Christmas Eve, get it cheap kind of thing) but DD (5) couldn't wait that long. End result: desperate to get rid of it before 12th Night.

melika · 28/12/2011 22:57

6th January cos its the epiphany, don't you know. YABU!

2rebecca · 28/12/2011 23:04

I only really have a tree up which I got on the 19th. Some of you just start too early, no wonder you get fed up. My tree is still looking good and I like the lights.

EauDeLaPoisson · 28/12/2011 23:11

I really dont get this. Ive seen people on facebook whining on boxing day about wanting the tree/decs down and 'getting back to normal' but its NOT normal, its still the christmas period- kids still off school, festive stuff on the telly, many companies not back at work, christmas sales on etc etc..why dont people just enjoy the festive season and not focus on one day where people give shit loads of gifts and eat tons? It really confuses me...

2rebecca · 28/12/2011 23:19

It's like people who put up loads of outside xmas lights in early December and take them down on boxing day. Seems mad when people have more time to wander around looking at the lights when they are off work over the festive period. For me it's still xmas holiday time until the schools go back (not that I'm off that long but taking down your decorations when the holiday has only just begun seems mad.

heather1980 · 28/12/2011 23:43

Mine is coming down on Friday, but i'm moving house on the 9th and i need to start packing and sorting the house.
It went up on the 11th this year which is the earliest i have ever put my tree up but dd was desparate

EauDeLaPoisson · 28/12/2011 23:46

I agree 2rebecca- was also saying similar about the german 'christmas' market- why close it on the 23rd Dec when lots of people will be off after christmas? Some people I swear just view it as a day of gifts and overindulgence I cant see any other reason.

statueofliberty · 28/12/2011 23:51

All decs and tree down NYD always, can't wait get rid of it by then.went up on 15 th.about usual time. Sparky if want em down,do it.

Pandemoniaa · 28/12/2011 23:58

My decorations went up, as always on Christmas Eve. So the novelty of coming downstairs to a lovely Christmassy house hasn't anywhere near worn off yet and nothing gets removed until 12th night here either! I'm another person who can't understand why Christmas decorations go up ridiculously early these days either.

GeriManda · 29/12/2011 00:04

Erm, maybe some of the stall holders (at xmas market) want to go home for xmas?

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 29/12/2011 00:57

Mine came down today..went up on 18th. Long enough for me ! My living room looks tidy and larger!!
