AIBU to hate wrapping presents?

I lose the sellotape, the paper tears, the scissors are crap, my back ends up aching with perching on the edge of the settee, the dogs just plays with the paper and I end up chasing him, and I hate, hate, wrapping presents!!

Ihate it I am really rubbish at it. I have tried to pay my son to do it but he only wrapped a couple and got bored. I would rather scrub floors or iron than wrap, still loads to wrap such a horrible feeling.

OldGreyWassailTest · 21/12/2011 23:32

Well, I've just received the best unwrapped, unco-ordinated, non colour-coded present of all..............I made it onto Discussion of the Day !

I'd love to give perfectly wrapped presents, with gift tags, bows, twirling ribbony floofy stuff. I have no patience. Give me some flat packed furniture any day, I do enjoy that.

chalat · 22/12/2011 04:14

After reading this thread, I decided that in case the chaos which has gone on in this household should continue that I should just stay up till all the packing was done. It is. Took me four hours - but at least it's sorted. Thanks, OP you were just the prompt I needed Xmas Wink

ChuffMuffin · 22/12/2011 16:58

Total faff. I hate it.

I spent 15 minutes last night wrapping a hand axe.

stealthsquiggle · 22/12/2011 17:10

chuffmuffin - that is a prime example of things which need either to be put in a box, or wrapped in cardboard to make them rectangular (sorry, I do realise it is too late for that to be of any use to you at all!)

bebeinamanger · 22/12/2011 17:17

YABU Xmas Wink I love wrapping presents! DH (and my mum) think I'm a bit crazy! I make sure they are all co-ordinated with different wrapping paper combos & proper ribbons. I even tied some bells on this year for extra sparkly Christmassyness! I spend hours wrapping when DD has gone to bed & I do genuinely enjoy it! This year I went for a sort of rustic/teal/silver combo. The secret is decent wrapping paper that gives a nice crisp fold & doesn't rip! Xmas Grin

Wrapping pesents is fab, writing cards on the other hand......Xmas Hmm

CheerfulYank · 22/12/2011 17:23

Oooh, Fairy that is brilliant . Xmas Grin

I bought myself the DVD of Little Women and am going to watch it tonight and wrap to my heart's content. With some lurvely cocoa. Yay!

Oblomov · 22/12/2011 17:43

Stealth, Costco wrapping paper with the grids on the back is the best thing ever. Highest quality. As is all costco stuff. we ran out this year.' I'm never wrapping in anything other than costco paper, ever again' announced dh. will be going again to get some more, this week, for next year.
I have two sellotape dispensers. the vivi one plus one like this:dispenser. tis the best thing. you can get the exact amount of tape you want. I love wrapping. good quality utensils is the key. plus wine. I use last years childrens christmas cards as tags. I like ribbon that you make go twirly with scissors. I buy stuff in Jan sales, as others have said, for next year. Best way.

Oblomov · 22/12/2011 17:54

Little Women box set ............oh happy days.

Littlepumpkinpie · 22/12/2011 20:45

Well the wrapping fairy ME is waiting for 9pm when I put the two noisy boys to bed. Wine is chilling in the fridge and the presents are down from the loft as soon as they are asleep the wrapping begins :( hate it

I have spent about 10 hours wrapping over the last week. Having sat cross legged on the floor for this, my back is killing me and my hips and groin feel as though I have been shagging for 10 hours straight. I only like wrapping square things so try not to buy anything squishy or odd-shaped.

LetUsPrey · 22/12/2011 21:28

I loathe wrapping presents. I've done - with a bit of help from DH - the majority of the family presents. Just have to do the DC's presents. I was supposed to start on them tonight, but I haven't. I'm working tomorrow morning, and the DC will be around in the afternoon and then I'm off getting pissed for something to eat and a chat at my friend's house.

I'm going to end up doing the rest of the wrapping on Christmas Eve aren't I? Again. Waaaaaaaahhhhhhhh waaaaaahhhhh sob sob sob.

CuriosityCola · 22/12/2011 21:30

Yanbu, but I love wrapping presents. Would do them for you if I could Xmas Grin

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 23/12/2011 03:38

whomoved thank you for that! Makes me believe I can wrap any odd- shaped packages now!

ChuffMuffin · 23/12/2011 09:24

stealth - it did come in a box - the box was twice the size of the hand axe! I've got to lug the thing on a train along with all the other presents for my family so it had to go sans box. Ahh, Christmas Wink

sozzledchops · 23/12/2011 17:44

Just started and on 12th present folks, on a roll! Wish me well with my trusty glass (or two) of red to see me through the ordeal!

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 23/12/2011 17:48

Good luck sozzled!
I gave up attempting to be nice and pretty and have just rolled up the final few presents in paper and generously wrapped sellotape around them. At least it will mean that present opening lasts a while....

CardyMow · 24/12/2011 13:19

I have finished wrapping now - but can someone PLEASE tell the people that make baby toys (yes fucking V-Tech, I'm talking about YOU) to stop having half a box with half the toy poking out. When did this start? My older dc are 13yo, 9yo and 8yo, and I'm sure that hardly any of their toys were like this. 11mo DS3's toys, it seems like not ONE of them has come in a complete box.

I can't figure out whether it's so that the dc can play with the toys on the shop shelf and bug their parents for them (Thus annoying the parents), or if it is deliberately done to make wrapping up more difficult (Thus annoying the parents). Either way - BLOODY STOP IT AND GIVE US A WHOLE BOX!!

Xmas Angry
ThePathanKhansWitch · 24/12/2011 13:26

Laughing at all of this wrapping hell. Just remembering the awful paper my mum used to buy years ago ('70's), t'was like patterned toilet paper Xmas Grin.

It didn't need "unwrapping", it just fell apart. Great!Xmas Smile.
